For What It's Worth

:blob1:

One of my friends is an intern at Clear Channel, and she got her hands on a promo copy of In Your Dreams. She won't risk burning the entire cd for me (THOUGH I AM GOING OVER TO HER PLACE TO LISTEN TONIGHT), but she sent me a copy of For What It's Worth. It's even better than I expected. I'll report back later with a full review on the album, but I'm sharing this now:

I don't know but I got a threat message from this link -- I could stop the process manually, but can you check that ? I really hope this can work safely :)

Aww. You're nice and new. I don't want to ruin the ledge for you, so I can't prank you. It's a Rick Roll with a script that puts Tom Petty's The Waiting into emergency boxes that you can't get rid off until you go through every word.

Because I can't resist the bad pun, it was worth it.

Artemis 04-01-2011 11:52 AM

God dammit, I hate April Fools day. I totally fell for that one.

Well done, Sir!

HAHA! April Fool Me! It was SO worth it because I actually got Rick Astly, "Never Gonna Give You Up" ... more 80's fun

Just randomly thought about how Buffalo springfield also have a song called For what it's worth...We know that Stevie really likes there music too because she mentioned in a recent interview once how she loves their song Rock and Roll Woman! and quoted a line from the song. lol

The way her voice breaks in the line."you saved my life I won't forget it" is heartbreaking.I can understand how just this line would be so poignant to you now.I have a friend that posts on Seven Wonders who just lost his mom to cancer I have know him for 30 years. He is holding out until Tuesday to listen to the album I have a feeling he will feel the same when he hears this song.

hightower_1001 04-29-2011 11:04 PM

This song is beautifully honest and vulnerable. Her vocals and the lyrics get me everytime. It is healing.

Agreed. The people on here who say it's "boring" I think just aren't really *listening* to it.

mezzoforte 04-29-2011 11:13 PM

I'm going to sound so sappy, but this is one of the things I love about Stevie's songwriting--a single line, or the tone and emotion of a song can touch you, even when the central subject is completely different (sororal vs. romantic love).
I'm glad it's meant something to you, and I wish you and your sister all the best.

mikephxaz 04-29-2011 11:18 PM

a single line....

I agree....a song of stevies that may not be her best can be lifted by one single line that makes it unforgettable.....For What Its Worth is the standout song on In Your Dreams...althought I love most of them:thumbsup:

Same from me, John.

flickersticked 04-30-2011 06:04 AM

I agree so much about FWIW being a healing song. I started crying as soon as it came on the first time. It is a perfect little song. It makes me think of so many people in my life, including Stevie herself. Her music saved my life, I won't forget it.

I think the album may be totally her best. I like how personal the song is.

ShangriLaTroubl 04-30-2011 07:26 AM

It's hard for me to say if I have a "FAVORITE" yet, but this song is definitely the one I've been listening to the most..It's amazing

It's kinda sad though... when I heard this album and realized how good it was, I thought about all the deceased, rabid Stevie fans who would never hear it

ya...funny..ironic funny..not "haha" funny...i have thought of that as well and wen i heard bout this album back in january..i literally said.."please god..let me not get sick or anything until i can at least hear this record.." no joke..i wasnt laughing...im no kid and im due for some type of organ implosion...hopfully not soon..no THAT is a "haha" funny..NOW its all about her book...i gotta live to read this too...THIS gotta b her next project as there no way she gonna top this record...i can c it...book w/same name followed by moooovie!!! YA!!!

drzubritsky 04-30-2011 09:13 AM

On my first couple of listens to the Rolling Stone stream a few days ago, my initial impression of FWIW was that it had a nice melody and lyrics but wasn't a standout. I also wasn't crazy about the vocal (a bit too close to the "Destiny Rules" granny voice in spots).

Yet as the days went on I couldn't get the song out of my head. Something about this song really sticks with you and it may be one of her best compositions ever. I still have some reservations about her vocal, but overall this is shaping up to be one of my favorite SN songs.

Hands down my fav song on the album. It just resonates with me so deeply on so many levels.

Good luck to you and your sis John.

For What It's Worth

For What It's Worth sounds like something from the Buckingham Nicks. Or maybe a distant cousin of I Don't Want To Know.
Love the lead and harmony vocal on this track (not a big fan of the shrill Sharon and Lori back up singing - I think Stevie's best when she harmonizes with her own singing).

Also love how the writing on this sounds like it could have been a Jimmy Webb song.
I wish she would record more like this.

I agree with everything you said here. For What It's Worth has become my favorite on this album. It gets stuck in my head for hours, even days. The self-harmonizing just makes the song even better despite the already outstanding lyrics and instrumentation.

I don't miss Sharon and Lori at all on this album, to tell the truth.

My best friend has decided this is her favorite song on In Your Dreams as well. I think we can all relate to what Stevie is talking about, here.
