Is there any Buzz happening with this album besides with the most diehard fans?
Stevie's album has been sorta static on the Amazon chart and she doesn't have a whole lot followers on her internet site. Granted she hasn't built them up. Are people outside of the Fleetwood Mac community fan sites just not interested or is there no buzz with this album? The interest for this album is hard to read. It was easy for TISL. That album sat near the Amazon top spot for a long time before its release.
Within the music industry itself, does anyone know if there is a buzz going on? I mean are there music insiders waiting for it to drop? Everything is feeling a little too casual. |
No. And I place the blame squarely on Warner Bros. Stevie's album will be out in 1 month and there is no music video, Stevie hasn't been interviewed by any major magazines or TV shows, there is no official website for the album, there are no promo materials out there such as posters, etc. If a tree falls alone in the forest, does it make a sound?

I'm really thinking that this Glee rumours episode coincides with the release of Stevie's new album

The reality is that there is rarely buzz for new albums--especially by 63 year old artists. Sales are driven by youth and downloads and it is very difficult for artists to sell records beyond their die-hard fan base. This is why you see established artists pandering to Glee and American Idol for exposure.
I do think this record will get critical acclaim and that will help--much like when Rick Rubin produced a Neil Diamond record--people who wouldn't normally buy it are inclined to because of the great reviews and left field collaboration. I think critics will be more curious to listen to this because of Dave's involvement. That is a good thing. I agree there should be more videos or at least an album web site. |

I suspect around the week of the album's release Stevie will make the rounds on shows like Letterman, Jimmy Fallon and the like. The Oprah appearance is great. The solo tour will get local promotional spots on radio, maybe TV in some areas. The album will be mentioned in Rolling Stone, etc. Stevie did interviews for Q, W, etc when TISL came out. It's too soon now. If they did promos now, it would be forgotten by May.

In a nutshell, the answer is that the world at large is probably not aware of or anticipating a new Stevie Nicks album. And at this stage of the game, I think that is what everyone has expected; I don't think WB or Stevie have delusions of grandeur in this regard. Although Stevie seems to be very proud of this album, I suspect that she is not going to promote it in a way that would go against her ethos as a person and an artist. Sure, she could grab a lot of headlines by feigning illness and going to the hospital. Or she could be busted for drugs or shoplifting. Or she could go around revealing bombshells about her personal life, e.g., owning up to the cocaine-straw-bum rumors. Or she could take a controversial stand on a hot political issue. Or she could go on American Idol. But I think she is staying true to herself (and her fans) and she's approaching all of this in her own low-key way with dignity and class. Sure, she's not grabbing the world's attention this way, but at least she's taking the high road. So whether this album bombs or excels, she can walk away from the experience with her integrity intact.

Here's a few from TISL:

Why do people keep saying that she's 'opening for Rod Stewart'?
This is both of their tours! That's why it's called the 'Heart & Soul' tour! I think there is plenty of buzz on facebook & that's a good thing! There was no facebook, twitter & youtube back in 2001 so that can't hurt with promotion. She'll be on 'Oprah & the 'Today' show so that's a plus!:blob2: Lets have some faith! ;) |

Maybe Rolling Stone will shoot a cover of her & Dave, & call it "Twilight years."
Actually, though, she & Dave would make kind of a cool RS cover. |

So basically I would gauge it's still to early to tell. Ask in another 2-3 weeks based on more print interview's, online promotion & if WBR or Amazon kick in some major pre-ordering incentives, other than the offer of the free download of SL . But otherwise, we definitely have gotten more teasers and "promotion" to date for IYD over TISL hands down. But one thing is clear, Stevie does not have the wealth of goodwill & anticipation generated after all "The Dance" excitement to carry her into this new record, not only that, but consider the more distracted twitter-verse nature of our entertainment news cycles and social media to 10 years ago, And it makes 2001, when TISL was released, look like to stone ages in comparison. So in short, yes the promotion is better so far this time 10 years ago, but the BUZZ is not, outside of her die hard fans. |

A quick look at Rod's discography for the past 40+ years shows many many platinum and gold records on both sides of the Atlantic, lots of high charting albums and singles, etc. His last number one album was only five years ago. We might love Stevie, we acknowledge Fleetwood Mac as a headline act, but sadly Stevie on her own is never going to have massive audience pulling power. |

I don't know what she has up her sleeve (other than these few casino dates) for her official In Your Dreams tour later, but she would be wise to hook up with a hot up and coming opener (not the likes of Vanessa Carlton) package , with her still squarely the headliner. She needs to ditch Rod, not only do they have very disparate performing styles, its also become apparent they have very different fans. Which I guess should have been evident, when the majority of us were up in arms when hit with the reality of the H&S tour from the onset. |

Also - could be worse - she could be opening for Def Leppard like Heart is this summer. :distress: |

Maybe the money Stevie makes on this tour (and the casinos) will help fund her solo tour later on. So, she's filling the coffers now only to promote IYD (less profitably)later on.

It's preposterous to expect IYD to come close to selling what TISL did in its 1st week weighing these components and the recording industry new realities. If she sells 75K her 1st week that will be a home run:nod: TISL sold 109K in its 1st week, so I'm anticipating between 50-75K opening numbers for IYD, and of course, that is dependent on how promotion for the album steps up in the next few weeks. But ultimately it's going to come down to the quality of the music and her singing in the long run as FM77 pointed out earlier in this thread. If IYD is just good/average, she will have a hard time selling outside of her core fans, If its phenomenal, Stevie will get word of mouth from fans, press, and critics alike, and it could be a slow burner all the way to the Grammy's. __________________ |

[QUOTE=Heartboy;958156]Why do people keep saying that she's 'opening for Rod Stewart'?
This is both of their tours! That's why it's called the 'Heart & Soul' tour! QUOTE] They are saying that because this is Rod's tour and Stevie is opening it. Her set is just about 75mins, vs. his 90+mins. She has shortened the intros to "Stand Back" and "Edge Of Seventeen" and she's not even introducing the band. Her stage setting is much smaller than Rod's. She herself has said she's opening. It's NOT a co-headlining tour. |

Can you pre-order without clicking the "like" button? I pre-ordered but I don't recall clicking any like button.
I don't know why there is all this drama over whether In Your Dreams will sell like Trouble in Shangri-La did, except that maybe some of you are just really bored. Stevie has said numerous times she's financially stable, so I think although she'd like the album to sell decently all it really has to do is sell enough copies that WB will still release future records....and considering how many low-selling Lindsey Buckingham albums are out there, that shouldn't be an issue. (And I'm NOT saying Buckingham albums aren't quality....they most certainly ARE....but they are also low sellers). Of course we'd all like the album to do well, and frankly I think it will debut in the top 10 although what the actual *sales* end up being I couldn't guess at. But this sturm and drang over what a "bad job WB and/or Stevie" is doing at promotion is just annoying because it seems like I've seen that complaint from fans with nearly every release. In one case, Heart's release Jupiter's Darling on Sovereign Records, I think the complaints were quite valid, but most of the time they aren't. Stevie has been doing tons of press interviews, radio and media, and what is the sizzle reel besides being a very creative promotional tool? |

As far as the speculating over how IYD does, I don't see it so much as drama or boredom, It's just interesting due to the fact that Stevie hasn't released anything in so long. And I think we all want her to get some recognition for IYD if its worth its weight in salt. pretty simple really. Fan boards are all about speculation and opinions. For me, I really just want the album to be great! If Stevie gets accolades and respectable sales from it, thats the cherry on top.:) |

As for buzz about the new album, I think it is hard to gauge. I think it is extremely impressive that her trailer for the album has been on youtube only a week and already gotten 50,000 views. Not to mention the number of views it originally got on AOL. With the last month of promotion starting in 2 days, I think promotion is really going to kick off. |

Thirty years ago Stevie was on top of her game. She was considered a sex kitten, she was considered talented. Now it is just the die-hard fans that make up the core of her audience. There is talk in threads around here that she is going to have a number one album or shift huge numbers. That just isnt' going to happen in my opinion. She doesn't appeal enough to the youth market (who buy most of the albums) and she doesn't have enough of a following in her solo career from the old fans to get up the charts. She doesn't have that selling power of people such as Rod Stewart, Elton John, the Rolling Stones, etc in terms of nostalgia acts and she doesn't have the fan base of a Katy Perry or a Lady Gaga. Remember that the Stones reputedly offered Bill Wyman $100 million dollars to rejoin them. ABBA was offered $1 billion to reform. Then look at Stevie Nicks who doesn't even go platinum anymore. Then realise no matter how much you love her, she isn't the Stevie Nicks of 1975. |
well put .
Isn't it up to Stevie to worry about her career |
If they were smart they'd move the release date up to coincide with the Oprah show. The momentum after that will be huge. If they don't it will be yet another huge missed opportunity in the career of Miss Stevie Nicks. I know "she doesn't care if anyone buys this record" but wouldn't it be awesome if they did?
|
I also think that Stevie and all at her record company need to release a 'deluxe' version with extra songs and a dvd. Most artists do this at least through Target or something. I think thats missing the boat to if this isn't done. I'm sure she' recorded more songs that what we know of. She usually does. There have to be some non LP tracks as well. I'm not preordering anything right now. I want to find out whats out there so that way I can purchase one copy of her cd. Yes, I do have many copies of her other solo cds (same with Mac) but if I can in some way not have to I'd rather only get one copy. I think the only person that hurts herself is Stevie with lack of promotion etc. Whether its her fault or the record companys? maybe both. I agree she isn't the artist she once was in her youth some 30+ yrs ago. I do believe the long time span with no new solo record does hurt her even if she may not think so. I do think its odd with her many unrecorded solo gems in the so called 'vaults' that she could'nt have released some sort of Stevie Nicks UNreleased gems cds or something through the yrs to keep peoples interest peaked. I think this helps her cause and keeps her more in the public eye's. Besides that she could have 'her' own purchasing web site of rare photos/shirts/and other items that we know as fans we would love the opportunity to purchase. Same with FMac. There are things they could do but chose to not do. Anyway, I do hope IYD , is somewhat successful but I guess only time will tell. I do always hope for the best. We'll have to wait and see now.:D

This would be a bit of a cheap trick, but with the Stevie collectors out there, releasing the album with multiple covers would increase sales.
