Favorite Snippet
So, what is your favorite song from the Sizzle Reel?
Mine is Moonlight, so far. |

However, I can tell the other songs are really good and that Italian Summer sounds like a great ballad. |
I love her voice the most in Moonlight, cause it just sounds so... restrained and vocally brilliant; hardly nasally at all.
But, I love the passion and anger in Wide Sargasso sea. Annabell Lee is nice, but nasally. While Italian Summer sounds beautiful, and wow at that loooong note, but, I refuse to judge a song based on a line and a half. So the jury is out on that one. However. Based on what we heard so far... Wide Sargasso Sea wins for me, especially if that "they drew a line in the sand, just because" line is part of the song. It's the one song that, based on the snippet, makes me yearn for more the most. |

Wide Sargasso Sea is the song that calls out to me the most of the 4 tracks. I actually love them all, though WSS is the standout for me.
Artemis, I love your new sig pic. |
Moonlight. I just really like the aura, the fact it's upbeat, kinda rocking. From what I can hear, it sounds like this actually should have been the single :).
Wide Sargasso Sea is second... it seems like that'll be a real rocker. I am not amused by Italian Summer. It's sappy and middle of the road sounding. I actually like what I hear of Annabel Lee... which really surprises me! I even like the highly nasal quality of her voice. |

I really do love everything, but the second that third song started, and Stevie says "and even though they were so in love, they drew a line in the sand just because", I KNEW that was my song!!!
|
Wide Sargasso Sea
but who knew Stevie would write a tribute to Left-Eye Lopez!!?? " she burned his house down!!!" gotta love it! after all, she did work with Dallas Austin, TLC's producer. in the whacky world of Stevie, it just might be a Left-Eye reference!

I'm torn between Moonlight and Wide Sargossa Sea, as well as a little of Italian Summer... I like Annabel Lee but it's not my favorite.
If I HAD to pick, oh gosh, I guess I'd say Wide Sargossa Sea. |
I love all 4 of those snippets. But I do know that Wide Sargasso Sea is probably one of those rockers that I'll love but so intense that I'll feel drained and thus I won't be able to listen to repeatedly. Same thing with in terms of intensity with Italian Summer - I will adore that song but I feel electric and start to cry by the end of that and thus I'll be drained and won't be able to put myself through that all the time without some good meds lol. I love Annabel Lee - love it. And someone suggested perhaps the 2 girls in the video are representative of Stevie and Robin which, if true, would make it so bittersweet to me. So I think the one I can totally enjoy without torturing my soul lmao is Moonlight. So I picked that but honestly, I think all 4 snippets are so majestic.

I voted for Moonlight, but really, truly loved Italian Summer and Wide Sargasso Sea as well. I chose it mainly because I felt like I got the best sense of Moonlight--the WSS snippet was electric, but so brief that I can't be sure what it will really sound like.
I'm now desperate to hear the full versions of all of these--I was blown away. |
Wide Sargasso Sea is the one that hooked me on first listen.Like another poster mentioned who could believe that a 63 year old lady could still rock like Stevie does in this song..Funny how the 2 most popular snippets with the fans are not songs mentioned as favs by those who have heard the album..although Stevie herself has cited "Moonlight" as her favorite.

Moonlight!
I was nervous when I heard the song inspired by Twilight was written in Brisbane - like my home town was somehow responsible for Stevie's penchant for crappy teen movies. But that snippet is brilliant! Her voice sounds wonderful, and just those few lines have been stuck in my head. Can't wait to hear the whole thing :blob1: |
Wide Sargasso Sea- Very sexy, Miss Stevie.
I love them all though... |
Moonlight. By far a more nuanced vocal than what we hear in the other snippets. I particularly like the way she sings "They drop..."
Plus I just like the overall sound. - Jake |
People are picking the rockier songs. Yay!

I love "Twilight". Her vocals and harmonies are fantastic. I just love the romantic imagery. So very Stevie!
I love the video snippets for "Italian Summer" better than the lyrics/vocals i've heard so far BUT I think I will like the song. Annabel Lee - I like and will warm up to more. Not sure about Wide Sargasso Sea to be honest. |
I voted Italian Summer cuz I really like the strings. I am PRO-strings in all compositions ever.
|
Hard for me to say because there's something I LOVE from all four songs:
"Moonlight" just sounds like a rockin' number with enough of her trademark fantastic lyrics and the gothic imagery lends itself well to the whole vampire theme she's going with. Even though "Annabel Lee" is essentially structured similarly, if not completely identically to the demo, was given just enough of a freshening up to make a huge difference in the song. The first spoken work/rapped line in "Wide Saragasso Sea" is a different take on a Stevie lyric, and has enough intensity to make me believe it's also going to be a highlight of the record. As for "Italian Summer", those soaring vocals are some of the most committed Stevie's put on a record in DECADES. I'm beyond pumped up for this record to come out. I wish it were May 3 already! |
Italian Summer. I like the ballads.

Italian Summer
What a great vocal. How does it rank amongst standards or ballads from ages past? When I heard Stevie's cover of ''At Last'' my jaw dropped and that was live with no tweaks. I like it when Stevie goes out of the box and shows how truly talented she is. Italian Summer could fit on a movie soundtrack which means more exposure.

Wide Sargasso Sea & Moonlight are the most intriguing. Annabel Lee has always sounded so catchy to me...I know others hate it. Italian Summer is the hardest to judge, but I think I'll like that one, too. I don't consider "middle of the road" and "pop standard" to be bad things...at all.
|
Annabel Lee is great too and it only has 3 votes.

I voted for Wide Sargasso Sea, because I just love the way it sounds and the lyrics! I love all four but that one captivates me the most, with the second being Moonlight.
So has anyone figured out the lyrics for Moonlight? This is what I hear: Strange She runs with the ones she can't keep up with Ooh it's so strange He slows down He's so desperate to stop her They drop to the forest floor, frozen... |
After watching the trailer too many times Friday, and throughout the weekend. I love ALL the song clips, but "Moonlight - A Vampires Dream" is the clear winner.:xoxo:
Stevie's breathy vocal is f**king delicious. So soft, steady...and controlled, but intense all at once. The strings on this blow my mind, subtly perched comfortably in the mix. I'm imaging the song opening with an eerie violin/string motif and lifting into a rocking dark esoteric mind f**k :D. I can't wait 4 this song the most. It feels like the right way to open the record, in the grand tradition of Stevie's best opening presentations. |
