Not to burst your bubble but she didn't do any handshakes at the end of Edge last night. I was very surprised but she just walked the stage and waved at everyone. Maybe she will change it up though.

Eta: an omen! IAFIL just came on at the restaurant. Statler grill hollah! |
Almost Time!
I'd say we at about 75-80% full at this point. My seat is decent. Far from stage but first row of first sectIon above the floor. Talk to everyone later! |
OMG!! Show is incredible; she's really selling it tonight because it's MSG! The boots are back (the short ones with the high heel) and no sausage casing legwarmers! And you guys are going to freak over the Secret Love video; it's like the Moonlight video but not as dark. Very lush is how I'd describe it. Can't wait for the videos from this show- she's really into this tour.

Can't wait to see pix! I bet she realized it didn't feel any better kicking around plastic wedges compared to heels. I love dancing in heels! Or maybe its because it's NYC!!!

Fall From Grace - Now that I know it's about Lindsey during The Dance, it really was even more intense for me. Great opener.
Secret Love - Really enjoy this live. I could see it becoming something of a sing-a-long. Really annoyed at the loss of "salvation"... she has lots of lyric flubs this concert on other songs, but for some reason this just seems to be the way she does it live. *re: the video. Started to watch it but saw it was just the same Dave Stewart nonsense (with lots of Dave Stewart in it) and I stopped watching. If Anyone Falls - Always lovely. Dreams - The crowd knew this one and was happy to hear it. I think it just sounds so much better when the Mac does it. More rockin'. Sorcerer - I think I feel like this had more swing to it in other performances, BUT she introduced it as one of the Lady from the Mountain trilogy, and she was like: "This is part... something (as if she were gonna say part 2 of the trilogy but didn't know which one it was ) Gold Dust Woman - brought the house down. really cool. the gdw wail was interesting this time, similar pose as her Unleashed ending on Silver Springs and not a long shriek but more like the wail on a roller coaster. interesting. but not, i'd say, as effective. Stand Back - At the end Stevie was "so into her dance" that she totally missed her cue to do the final "STAND BACK!" And then it got worse. She ran to the microphone to explain--and when she did, she tried to cue the audience to say: "STAND BACK!" but everyone looked like: huh?! cuz they were mostly rod fans (big time). Rhiannon - Really epically beautiful tonight. I really enjoyed the whole piano opening and everything and the ending was wow for the crowd of Rod fans I think. Just really made me feel connected to Stevie's Rhiannon mythology. Landslide - I'm growing to not be as negative toward Waddy as I was in the past, but I just don't think he was up to it tonight on this one. After seeing the Mac perform this three times last year, just wasn't up to snuff. Maybe it was cuz of my crappy seat, but first time I didn't tear up during the song. Oh and she sang part of it in a way I've never heard before, was really pretty. I'll try to think of what the line was. Edge of Seventeen - OK. So I said I had crappy seats right. So out of respect for all the ancient Rod fans sitting around and behind me, I sat down for the entire show (which I've never done at any concert in my entire life). But I was saving up good graces so that I could rock out to EO17. Shortly after I was rocking out I feel a hand grab my arm. I turned around and the lady next to me pointed to a lady a few rows behind (surely enough on stadium seating to not be overly blocked by me. I'm a dwarf). Anyway, she says: "SIT DOWN!!!!" And I was about to go jumping over the seats to beat her face in, but then I didn't. I just turned around and kept dancing, acting as if nothing had happened, but it really killed my buzz. People are crazy; she didn't care. The big screen was right by us and easily seen. She just wanted to complain. Why go to a rock concert if you don't want people to stand?! Anyway, my dancing must have been really noticeable cuz I also saw people on the floor seats looking up at me and pointing. I believe Stevie saw me. I don't think she did. I just really do believe. Rock and Roll - Best part of the evening. NO ROCK AND ROLL. Love Is - I really like the album version of this song, I do. But this live version is transfixing and very touching. I love it and it is superior to the album version by a lot. I wish we could get a definitive live cut of it. It can also replace How Still My Love in the set. ROD STEWART Two Notes: -Rod's set up was dazzling. The hot musicians and back up singers in suits or blazing red dresses against the white stage and white instruments and the screen behind him with colorful graphics and--the key--a big screen above them instead of just one to the side showing the actual action on stage (it encourages more standing!). -With the exception of that song about crying while someone lies to you--on which he sounded GREAT--he never sang. I barely heard him. He made Stevie sound like Beyonce. THE DUETS Passion - Very Stevie-ish, similar in tone and theme as aspects of Fall From Grace. Would have preferred harmonizing to the trade-off on verses/chorus. Kind of a mess. He. Does. Not. Rehearse. BUT fun. Young Turks - Feel similarly about this one. Fun but a trainwreck. Though this one had some backing harmonies from Stevie, which was the best Rod sounded all night (until that one song) and she sings with the hot black back up chicks and they all crowded round her and all four (three back up singers AND stevie) got down dancing. THAT was the visual of the evening--the Stevie visual of MY Dreams. I wish Dave Stewart would take note. |

Oh nooooo..... I just want to give Stevie a huge hug after going through something like that. If it was a Stevie solo show, there would be no problem with us knowing to shout "Stand Back!" but when half or more of the audience is for Rod, that could cause issues. It would be like if Stevie expected the whole audience to sing "Rhiiiiiaaaaannnon" during the song. Sorry about the sitting down thing, that really sucks. It is so hard to sit during a Stevie concert. Thanks for the play by play for the songs. |
I'm home and I've started to upload video. Going to take awhile, but at least try to get one or two up tonight if the you tube gods are with me.
I have a wonderful time and I"m really happy I went. Stevie definitely was really in hig spirits and truly made me feel like she wanted to be no other place than on stage singing to us. I'm going add on the comments. Quote:
I was trying so hard to capture the video that the performance was lost on me. But I know I was hoping to heard "salvation", but no.....it was still a good performance and she said something like, " a new song...finally...I know!" The video I hope to post doesn't give the audio justice. She sounded so GOOD on this and really on everything. Quote:

But I actually did almost tear up cause I haven't been to a show where she had the pics of her family and her younger self in the background. I know it's been aound for 4 years now, but it was my first time seeing it and i just felt that it was so special to share somethign pretty personal with us. Quote:
Anyway, EO17...I love this song, I love this song live, I love the surge of energy that erupts when you hear this. Last year when i was at stage-gate at the Taj Mahal, I missed out on enjoying this, so on some level I was glad there wasnt an edge walk that i missed out on again. She really rocked out to this at the end and got a huge ovation. More video on that too hopefully. Quote:
She ended with the pray for the world thing, which didn't bother me one bit. Thought it was just a little spirtual message. No mention of her new album coming out in May and she didn't introduce the band, which i thought was odd. But maybe the double bill thing left no time for that. Quote:
Now the fringed mini numbers and synchronized girlie dancing and singing...can I just say I was channeling Ally McBeal a little? I swear it reminded me of some of thse bar scenes. HEHE. Quote:

Anyway, I had a blast and now of course I need to figure out how to see her solo in May. I promise...videos and pics to come!!! |
This was an awesome show!!! I have a bunch of pictures and video that I am uploading now. I will post them soon.
I couldnt really get into Rod. Thankfully the beer swilling drunk next to me got up to use the bathroom halfway thru Rod's set and I followed him out of the aisle and left! I did video both duets though. |
I'm too tipsy/exhausted to write anything coherent, but just wanted to note how amazing that was! My first Stevie concert, and since I was going with two friends who were less familiar I was kind of nervous (you know, wanting them to love our girl as much as I do). But it was fantastic! She really shined in her set, and her voice was fantastic. My friends were definitely impressed and got really into it.
I do think the duets were weaker--I hadn't realized how different their performance styles were until that point. She looked a little awkward, trying to fit in his his very physical style. She got through it, though. Great performance over all! |
Secret Love Video
Sorry it's so grainy and not the best quality. My camera is about 5 years old so in technology speak it's a dinosaur.
|
Ok so there is defeintely a barrier between the sage and front row it looks like. So IM guessing no Edge Walk?
|
I just got back and not to over-use the word but it was AWESOME! :D
Stevie REALLY rocked "Young Turks" and "Love is" was beautiful. Total heresy, I know - But i.m.o. Love is works even BETTER than Beauty and the Beast, and is just as beautiful in concert. And I think she put her heart into it just as much. It seems to me to be an even more-fitting ending because it seems a very positive note to end the whole show on. No Edge Walk - I think some of the people sitting up-front may have been very disappointed - I heard that those seats were a thousand dollars a pop! She just walked around to each side of the stage and waved and smiled. But - there was ONE little group in REALLY sucky seats, towards the left side of the stage, at the point where the seats are almost beginning to curve behind the stage itself - Stevie made a special effort to walk right over to them and wave right at them directly - I really respected that - "Typical Stevieness" - considerate of all of her fans - not wanting any of them to feel "left out." Overall, one of the best Stevie show's I've been to! And I've been to - Well yeah okay, four. :wavey: |
Why the use of so many other people wearing her former clothes? Why couldn't she be in her stuff all throughout the video like that? I'm sure she has similar in her size she's had made today. All in all a beautiful video it looks.

I tend to agree though with what was said before, I think there is too much Dave in this video. It is a Stevie song, not a Stevie and Dave song for crying out loud. :distress: But I digress. All in all, I am VERY HAPPY we got a brand new video for a single. It just needs to be officially released already. (shaking my head in pure disappointment in WB for not getting this released before this concert started). |
