An album made up of Lindsey favourites...

I'd love to know the Lindsey songs his fans would choose as favourites.

So, if you could make up a 10-track Lindsey album, just taking 2 songs from L&O, GI, OOTC, UTS and GOS, how would it go?

It's been really really difficult to whittle it down but mine would be:-

1. Trouble
2. It Was I
3. Go Insane
4. Slow Dancing
5. Soul Drifter
6. Countdown
7. Cast Away Dreams
8. It Was You
9. Did You Miss Me
10. Gift Of Screws

Silver Springs 03-24-2011 11:43 AM

Trust you to ask a hard question lol. *Whine*
  1. Love Runs Deeper
  2. Did You Miss Me
  3. D.W.Suite
  4. Slow Dancing
  5. Johnny Stew
  6. That's How We Do It in L.A
  7. Don't Look Down
  8. Wrong
  9. Down On Rodeo
  10. Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind

TrueFaith77 03-24-2011 11:55 AM

I'm going to cheat. This cheat further raises the question: Is UTS Lindsey's greatest-ever album?

Also I'm listing 2 faves from each album rather than what would sound best as an ablum, which is lame of me to do (i know). :o

1. Trouble
2. Shadow of the West
3. Go Insane
4. I Must Go
5. Countdown
6. Soul Drifter
7. Try for the Sun
8. Cast Away Dreams
9. Right Place to Fade
10. Bel Air Rain

michelej1 03-24-2011 12:15 PM

1. Trouble
2. It was I
3. Go Insane
4. Slow Dancing
5. Wrong
6. Don't Look Down (actually, there are at least 2 other songs I like equally as much)
7. Show You How
8. It Was You
9. Gift of Screws
10. Bel Air Rain (Actually there are at least 4 other songs I like just as much, interchangeable splendor)

I will eventually compile stats of the favs from each album

I see. Well that gives me time to change my UTS picks. It's hard. I know you're asking for lists, but maybe this can also start discussion. SUD i took off cuz the live version and the elizabethtown version are definitive. and Down on Rodeo I took off just cuz i'm angry it wasn't on SYW. CAD is perfection in the live version but last night i was belting out the album version in the shower, so i must love it. and try for the sun is the one to which I first grativated on the album and I love Donovan. sigh. hard.

shackin'up 03-24-2011 02:51 PM

1. Mary Lee Jones

You have 3 from Gift of Screws but only 1 from OOTC.

I am getting well confused now with my list

mutiny on yer hands. maybe the best way to put it would have been to determine everyone's two fav songs from each album. rather than proposing a playlist. i think it made things confusing.

With the non-album singles & soundtrack songs as well, you're ignoring some great tunes that are just as "important" to the overall Lindsey Buckingham catalogue as just the album tunes. (and a few of those are actually MORE important than some of the album filler tunes)

If you were to check my basic list, it DOES include 2 from each studio album (including 2 from an unreleased album) plus 2 songs from a movie soundtrack and 1 song released on a "various artists" Benefit CD. None of those other 6 tunes can be ignored.

Sometimes that is my favorite Lindsey vocal of all time. I might be able to argue that it is the DEFINITIVE or quintessential Lindsey vocal.

He's right that for whatever purposes you plan on putting these lists, he does limit his album track choices to two.

Who would have thought a simple playlist thread would be so controversial lol.

Omg, almost everything frigg'n associated with LB or SN eventually erupts into some controversial debate/heated discussion/lengthy analysis of one thing or another (sometimes completely unrelated) thing. It's how we roll. lol! Girl, you know this by now! Shoot, that's how the innocent Kristen's "Holiday Tips" thread has like 140+ posts at this point. Like anyone cares that passionately about how KB decorates her house in winter...

elle 03-24-2011 07:19 PM

i'll play by the rules :)

although it's really hard, especially picking just 2 from the last two albums:

That’s how we do it in LA
It was I
Bang the drum
DW Suite
Don’t look down
You do or you don’t
Cast away dreams
Down on Rodeo
Right place to fade
Gift of screws

holidayroad 03-25-2011 07:29 AM

Trouble
Johnny Stew
Go Insane
I Want You
Wrong
This Is the Time
Cast Away Dreams
Down On Rodeo
Underground
(I can't decide on another favorite from GOS!)

Go on, you can do it - I need it for the final analysis.

McTrouble 03-25-2011 09:46 AM

The more contributions the better to give a bigger picture of the 10 tracks that would be the most popular for the album.

Let's say I give it until next Wednesday and then give the result.

You can then compare your list of tracks with the winning list.

I'll also give which Lindsey song was the most popular of all across the 5 albums, and the runner-up.

Thanks everyone for joining in - even all you awkward b*ggers as you've made it more fun and more of a headache for me :]

sanders8323 03-25-2011 11:02 PM

Trouble
Johnny Stew

I Want You

Confession time: I still haven't got round to getting a copy of L&O :o Bwana just scared me off! Soon, though. Soon.
I'll choose two tracks from each of the other albums and a bonus two to make up my ten:

I Want You
Slow Dancing

Countdown
Street of Dreams (argh, hardest album to choose! It literally could have been eeny-meeny-miny-mo apart from the final two tracks)

Down on Rodeo
Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind

Wait For You (that wail is probably the sexiest sound that man has ever made!)
Love Runs Deeper

Bonus tracks:
Wrong
Great Day

Law & Order is just an extension of what Lindsey was doing on Tusk without having to deal with Christine's or Stevie's tunes. What really should've happened was to have Tusk as the single album and let Lindsey release Law & Order as a double album. It's not a stretch at al to go from "The Ledge" or "Not That Funny" to "Bwana" or "Johnny Stew"...."That's All For Everyone" to "Shadow Of The West", etc.

AHEM! "Awkward"? What's awkward is leaving out a dozen or so brilliant songs; some of which have become Buckingham "standards".

Just wanted to make it more difficult to choose - yeah, it would have been a lot easier to include more choices - but it was fun, and provoked some good comments, so thanks! :)
