Stevie In The Seventies ~ Guest Shots!
Stevie did some awesome guest work on other people's album in the Seventies, as well as in concert! Here's one of my favourites from 1978:

I bought the 45 single of "Tunnel O' Love" in 1985 ~ it had Stevie's name on it, even!!!!!!

Ok, don't know what's more disturbing in the Blonde in the Blue T Bird video, Stevie all hugged up with that d'bag, her driving while obviously intoxicated, or the chick on stage lip synching the Stevie vocals?!? But I love the video, thanks for posting it! One of my favorites.
:woohoo: |

Arguably, some of STEVIE's wickedest vocals EVER!!!!!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xhu4kun1_W8 "Midnight Wind" "COME ON DOWN!!!!!!!!!!! IT'S WRITTEN ON THE WIND!!!!!!!!!' |
Not a real "guest appearance", but a song Stevie didn't sing on the original version. I think these are some of Stevie's most beautiful backing vocals! So touching!!! she really loves this song!

"Yes, I Guess I Am" ~ Walter Egan Starts very sweet kinda, and gets really dark!!!!!!!! I've always loved this one!!! Listen to ALL of those Stevie overdubs near the end.... "Devil Wind" ~ Bob Welch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pKkwX9afO0 Takes awhile for Stevie to show up, but she's worth it!!! |
"Hot Summer Nights" ~ Walter Egan
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45-CrpU5y5I "The Dealer" ~ Stevie & Walter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGu0TOVpjoQ Too bad Walter never released his covers of Stevie's songs, "The Dealer" and "Sisters Of The Moon"... |

That LIVE version of "Hello, It's Me" with Stevie was one of the very first Stevie Guest Appearances I ever bought, so long ago. I had it on vinyl, and this morning I was thinking of it and found it on YouTube. I remembered how much I LOVED Stevie on that song, and I thought about just converting it to mp3 from YT. Instead, I went to Amazon, found it in the MP3 section, and downloaded it legally!
I love how Stevie sings, "You know that I'd be with you if I could!" And then how she mirrors Todd on "I'll come around and see you once in awhile..." "Once in awhile..." I always forget Hall & Oates are on that song, but now I do notice Daryl trying to out~wail Stevie! ;) |

Okay. Gotta check out the rest of the clips you posted too when I have some more time. Thanks again! |

I remember being a kid in the Summer of 1979, and I LOVED this weird song that had this BIZARRE woman's vocals on it! But I never knew who she was.
A few years later, now a Stevie fan, I found a list of all of her guest appearances ~ I HAD to have ALL of her recordings! :) On New Year's Eve 1984, I bought the John Stewart album, and there was that song ~ "GOLD"!!! And, not only that ~ "Midnight Wind"!!!! That New Year's Day, I spent drinking beer and listening to 4 songs over & over: "Gold" "It's You, Only You (Mein Schmerz)" ~ Lene Lovich "Breathing" ~ Kate Bush "Midnight Wind" :woohoo: |
During the '80s, I had a checklist of Stevie guest appearances that never left my wallet, just in case I stopped by a used record store. I was able to find everything except a copy of Louise Goffin's album.
I love Stevie's vocals on the Walter Egan album, especially "Yes, I Guess I Am" and her vocals on "Whenever I Call You Friend" are so good I can overlook the triteness of the lyrics. It was a big hit and gave her the opportunity to actually belt. "Magnet & Steel" and "Hello It's Me" went top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100, so I love her vocals on John Stewart's "Midnight Wind," which hit #28 on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart. It was the follow-up single to the top-5 hit "Gold" and her audible presence on both tracks helped with airplay. (Razor & Tie's 1994 CD reissue of "Bombs Away" currently goes for $60 - $80, unless you peruse Amazon's Marketplace where some sellers have it prices between $100 - $400. I'm not kidding.) I've never been able to discern Stevie's background vocals on Phil Collin's "Separate Lives." Has anyone else? |
Wow that was the first time I've ever heard Midnight Wind. That's freaking amazing. It may just be her most awseome and wild "studio" vocals." Does anyone else hear her singing the same chant as she does in Violet and Blue?

Stevie sings, "My eyes" very clearly once in "Separate Lives" after Marilyn &Phil sing it. Other than that in the song ~ Hawkeye, YES, about "Violet And Blue"! I always thought Stevie figured she'd save that to use on her own later. :) In 1991, the Stevie fanzine Silver Springs had an interview with John Stewart about STEVIE, and he said SHE completely created her vocals on "Midnight Wind" without anyone's help. He said she kept overdubbing and overdubbing them and created the most amazing thing! He also gave Stevie quite a bit of the credit for "Gold" being a big hit! |
BTW, both of Walter Egan's first two albums, Fundamental Roll and Not Shy, are available TOGETHER on Amazon's mp3 section for downloading with a cost of $8.99 TOTAL for BOTH albums! 21 songs for that is a bargain, and ALL of the songs Stevie did with Walter (about half of those 21) are included (except for "The Dealer" and "Sisters Of The Moon", of course!).
Also, "Midnight Wind" is available for downloading from Amazon as well: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_no...tewart&x=0&y=0 Only 89 Cents!!!!! |
My favourite of Stevie's songs with Walter is not on YouTube ~ "Finally Find A Girlfriend".
Oh, wow! I just LOVE Stevie on it! It's not nearly as trippy as "Tunnel O' Love" or "Yes, I Guess I Am", but it's so bouncy and cool. Stevie backs Walter, and she also does some beautiful harmony with that Annie chick who lipsynchs to Stevie's vocals in the video for "Blonde In The Blue T~Bird". But my favourite part is at the end, while Walter sings his final "Finally found a girlfriend...", Stevie starts ranting: "Finally found ~ HEY!!! Finally found..." and then after Walter finishes, she yells out, "Girlfriend ~ YEAH!!!!!" "Ooh hoo Ooh hoo... Ooh... Ooh hoo Ooh hoo... Ooh..." ***Available for downloading on Amazon!!!!! :) |
also with Walter Egan from the Fundamental Roll album...
-Only The Lucky http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xtl8FPJB2e8 -Won't You You Say You Will http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfDxfvFrik0 -Feel So Good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CdIj98otwx4 -When I Get My Wheels http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePBQBDHFV1w And from the 1976 Tom Snow album, Stevie sang on 2 songs... Rosanna, and Hurry Boy (neither on youtube) and in 1982 with Robbie Patton on Smiling Islands. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncWd7vHUy14 and wasn't she also on Just The Wanting?? also on the Not Shy album |

Thanks for posting all those others as well!!! BTW, I have "Hurry Boy" and I KNOW I DLed "Rosanna" years ago from a comp CD, but I can't find it on my iTunes! Drat! From the Seventies, Stevie also sings on Dane Donohue's "Woman", which is not on YouTube. But it is THE most Late Seventies sounding song of all time! Reminds me of Steely Dan somewhat. Ooh, Donald Fagan was buddies with Kenny Loggins, who sang with Stevie... |
Hmmm.... Melissa Manchester wrote the lyrics to "Whenever I Call You 'Friend'" ~ but STEVIE got to sing it on the hit single!
Do you think Melissa secretly hated Stevie? Or just smiled contentedly while continually cashing the royalty checks? ;) |

i always thought it was the song Casablanca with Dane Donohue...no wonder i never heard her...it was Woman. |
Well, people post official releases like the UK "Rock A Little" 12" version, and Tom Snow is out of print and not on Amazon or iTunes, so I think it would be okay.
Please post if you feel comfortable!!! "Rosanna" is what I need, but probably everyone needs "Hurry Boy", too! Oh, and Stevie sings throughout the ENTIRE song "Woman" ~ no way to miss her on that one! |
Thank you for posting the " Blonde In The Blue T~Bird " video. I have never seen this before. Stevie driving, in two lanes, totally cracks me up.
Here is- "She's Gone"with Hall & Oates 1978 http://www.mediafire.com/?dlkd8cf3abrdkt2 |
