"Rumours" about a Fleetwood Mac episode of Glee?

Apparently, the "rumours" are true as of last night!

Part of me in wanting Silver Springs to be included in the episode, but I'm terrified they'd bastardize it! You don't mess with the holy grail!

WOW--I really didn't think it would happen--so excited. Having a whole Mac epi should really stir up tween interest--I hope they take advantage of it!

I don't want them to touch Silver Springs (nor do I think they will). No one but Stevie should sing that song, and especially not high school kids. But while there's no way they'll match any of the original versions, I'm excited to see what they'll do with them.

kak125 03-17-2011 09:10 AM

wow that is pretty exciting. i have only watched glee a few times but the fact that they would be doing the entire album could be really cool. just think how many more copies of rumours would be sold around the world. its too bad that fm doesnt have anything in the works because this could get them right back into the spotlight.

Despite the fact that the only episode of Glee I have watch that I did not FF through all the singing parts was the Rock Horror episode, I know the show well enough to know that not just the teenagers sing the songs. I could see one of the adults singing it. There are enough love triangles on that show and break ups that I think an adult could pull it off. Since Rumours is mostly about break ups and revenge against ex-lovers I think High School romance works. I mean, how many "exes" did everyone here have in High School? at least 1 a month?

KarmaContestant 03-17-2011 10:13 AM

I watch Glee every week, and love the show. I could totally see this happening, and it would be great!

If it focused on the actual Rumours album, I wouldn't expect Silver Springs to be used anyway, since it's only on the expanded version.

While Stevie's songs would be fun, it would be Lindsey's material that I think would be more exciting to watch.

Artemis 03-17-2011 10:33 AM

This could be interesting.

Dreams, Don't Stop, Go Your Own Way, Songbird, and I Don't Wanna Know, are the songs I think they would do.

Maybe Silver Springs or Never Going Back Again, as well.

I can't see them doing Second Hand News, The Chain, Oh Daddy, You Make Loving Fun or Gold Dust Woman, I'd say Oh Daddy and Gold Dust Woman are the least likely ones, actually.

I could definitely see The Chain... it's already got the tight harmony in the verses for them to work with, and the whole thing - never break the chain - could be interpreted for the Glee Club as well.

I could see them attempting Gold Dust Woman. Not Oh Daddy, yeah...

I think it's most likely that they'll go with Dreams, Go Your Own Way (Finn would probably sing this, even though I really think he shouldn't), Don't Stop, and I could see Puck doing Never Going Back Again.

Also I have a sinking feeling that they WILL give Rachel 'Silver Springs' (despite it not being on the actual album, it's well known and the story about it not getting on the album could definitely be reflected in the storyline) which upsets me only because I don't care to see anyone other than Stevie sing that song, ever.

Fleetwoodmark 03-17-2011 10:59 AM

I can totally see that Cory guy doing Second Hand News.

This is fantastic for FM...get their name out their and then they can start another record towards the end of the year !!

Jondalar 03-17-2011 11:01 AM

well, if this happens you can thank Stevie for once again promoting the band, and fighting for their legacy, because god knows Lindsey or Mick won't do that

WildHearted 03-17-2011 11:06 AM

I guess this is intended for this season? They only have like 4 more episodes this season that we don't already know details/titles for etc... so I was kind of hoping that it might be an idea for season 3, which would give FM a little more time to get back in the studio and maybe start working on something so as to use this to their advantage... however, since he says that they've started writing it, I guess it must be for one of the last four episodes of the season.

Anyone thought of the possibility of a cameo? We all know it'd most likely be Stevie... but it would be cool if they could get one (or more) of the others to do it too (save for Christine who obviously would never).

I don't want Fleetwood Mac to get back together. Without Christine it's not the same at all. Might as well get the Buckingham Nicks album out there and do another solo project. Fleetwood Mac is over and the touring needs to stop. They don't need the money and when I saw them last year, Stevie looked liked she could barely get through it.

Mick won't do it? The man resurrects the cash cow any damn chance he gets.

mikebise 03-17-2011 11:34 AM

Why didn't he push through the 2009 Rumours Box Set?

What happened to his 1998 Rarities Box Set? That's where Maureen Loftus got ALL her stuff from, a guy who was working with Mick on that neverhappened box set.

Resurrecting a dead band isn't the same. Finding ways of getting younger audiences to listen to your music is different.

WildHearted 03-17-2011 11:42 AM

Well, personally I would have no qualms if FM wanted to do another album or tour, at all. But that's hardly what the topic of the thread is about. I was just saying that FM could use this to their advantage if they wanted to.

So does the fact that they got the rights to Rumours mean that they couldn't do Silver Springs, as it wasn't on the album?

I wonder who would be singing leads on the song. Also, I'm assuming since their basing the whole episode around the album... it will include a whole bunch of references and/or be themed around the infamous breakups etc and just the whole situation regarding the recording of the album. Which I'm sure mostFM fans are tired of hearing by now, but let's be honest - people love drama and people who aren't fans and haven't heard the drama would probably be pulled in by it all..

mikebise 03-17-2011 11:47 AM

Isn't "Silver Springs" now officially on Rumours CDs? I have a few different official releases with "Silver Springs" sequenced in the album, including the audio DVD.

not sure if they will use that one or not, probably not official if it wasn't on the original that sold through the stratosphere, I think I Don't Wanna Know is going to make a great Glee song.

BombaySapphire3 03-17-2011 11:51 AM

This should finally push Rumours over the 20 million mark in the U.S.It has been hovering at 19 million for years.

I just bought a new copy of Rumours a few weeks ago and it has the original 11 songs, no Silver Springs.

Gold Dust Woman is the one song I can't see happening at all, simply because the meaning of the song is all about cocaine

Although... now I think about it, I can see Rachel singing it in a "Finn is my drug" kinda way... which would be super lame.

I can see it being interpreted about Stardom or something of the like...

I mean, Madonna's "Like a Prayer" is about oral sex, and they sang that haha.

Also, the more I think about it.. I know that a lot of people think Glee is a joke/awful show (I think that myself sometimes, despite the fact that I watch every week haha), it speaks highly of FM that they would theme an episode around them, when you consider who they've themed episodes around in the past: Britney, Madonna, and Gaga... all three of which are gigantic pop sensations.

With the recent Finn/Quinn storyline, I could see Quinn singing Go Your Own Way to Finn as Rachel sings Dreams to Finn later in the same episode - leaving him alone without either girl on his arm! Or maybe it would be Rachel singing Go Your Own Way and Quinn singing Dreams. Either way would be interesting - leaving Finn to sing Second Hand News, since that's pretty much what he would be afterwards. You Make Loving Fun would be great for Kurt and Blaine, or Artie and Brittany, or Puck and Heather (I think that's her name). /random thoughts

Oh, I could definitely see YMLF being a Kurt/Blaine thing. I completely forgot about them.

Puck's love interest is Lauren, I think? I'm not a big fan of that storyline tbh haha.

Also, I will reiterate that I'm thinking more and more more that Silver Springs totally fits the whole Finn/Quinn/Rachel thing that's going on now, with Rachel singing it to Finn.

Then again as much as I don't like the idea of covers of these songs, I ESPECIALLY don't like the idea of Quinn singing any of them (aside from maybe a line or two if they do a group number). I think she's easily the weakest singer in the cast and would absolutely butcher any one of the songs if the sang them solo... so I think that's probably influencing my vision for how they would use the album in the show.

mezzoforte 03-17-2011 12:30 PM

I don't think the coke issue would stop them from doing GDW--the meaning is pretty obscure, and the song is probably one of the better known Rumours songs. I would love to see Santana on that one.

I think they'll give Kurt Songbird.

Ooh yes. Kurt and Blaine would rock YMLF. Plus it would be really sweet. Kurt has an amazing high voice.

Aw, I love Puck and Lauren. If only for Lauren completely owning Santana.

Ooh, I love that idea. Plus, Lea Michele has a killer voice, I think she'd do it amazingly well.

I think Quinn could do a really good version of Dreams... or is that just me? She has quite a nice, soft voice, which if used properly, would sound really lovely with that song.

/Gleeking out.

I personally just don't think she has the vocal power or ability to pull of any of Stevie's songs, or Christine or Lindsey's for that matter. In the scheme of things Dreams is pretty mellow, but I just really really really don't think that Dianna Agron has a good voice for solos or leads on anything (she's fine for background, and she's a beautiful beautiful girl... but no)...

Well, apparently this episode is going to happen next season, which means the storylines and couplings could be very different.

I would definitely like to see Santana sing Gold Dust Woman. Unfortunately I can't see Mercedes singing any of these songs, although she's got a fabulous voice.

This is really exciting me. Obviously there's the fear of them butchering everything... but still. It gives good material to talk about for sure!

There is really no reason to live anymore. The whole world has officially gone to Hell.

WildHearted 03-17-2011 01:18 PM

Also, I remember reading an interview Lindsey did not too long ago where someone mentioned the prospect of this, "I hadn't thought of that, but it's not a bad idea!"....

Fleetwood Mac Tribute episode on Glee!

I just read on zap2it.com,that they are working on an episode based entirely on the Fleetwood Mac Rumours cd...how exciting is this, and Im sure it will be during sweeps month in May just around the time stevie's cd will be out...more great exposure for Stevie!:]

I'm with you. I'm not a huge fan of Glee, but we'll see how it goes. I wouldn't mind them doing Don't Stop, GYOW, IDWK. But I'd rather they not touch GDW or The Chain. :o

Keith 03-18-2011 08:29 AM

again..

I don't watch the Glee, but it does sound like an interesting show... a weekly drama/comedy/musical.. I mean Rumours is drama.. has it's funny moments or at least they make loving fun.. and it's music.....

I'll be checking it out.. go Fleetwood Mac!

Awesome!

I suspect I'm slightly outside of Glee's target demographic, but I love it. My whole family does. Sure, I don't think its changing the world with any grand, moral message, but it's fun and silly and entertaining and I don't need much more in a tv show. Mostly, I think the cast is incredibly talented, and I enjoy watching them perform.

I can only see them basing an episode on Rumours as an entirely positive thing. Introducing a whole bunch of new kids to an album that is 34 years old? Giving those kids who've already discovered Fleetwood Mac a reason to smile and say to their skeptical friends, "See? I told you they rocked."? I'm very much looking forward to it

I like your attitude!

I'm rather excited for this, actually. I wonder if it will be for one of the final episodes of this season, or if it's being planned for next season? I haven't really been able to find a concrete answer on that one.

It'll be more like the Carrie Underwood debacle / Taylor Swift cataclysm in which youngsters complained about the old people ruining the songs.

I personally have NEVER heard anyone say that Stevie ruined Rhiannon haha. That was ALL Taylor, she just flat out sounded horrible, Stevie or no Stevie.

And I have to say your use of "the old people" made me chuckle, as that's what my 9 year old sister refers to FM as haha.

I can't say I've ever even seen the GYOW/Carrie Underwood performance though...

ETA: Also, unless one of them makes a surprise cameo, they won't be singing on the songs thus they won't have the opportunity to "ruin" them. :)
