In Your Dreams Album Cover Poll!

Do you love it or hate it?

Artemis 03-08-2011 12:47 PM

Love the cover, hate the lens flare bubble with a passion. It's a tacky, unecessary addon that detracts from a really stunning cover.

skuncles 03-08-2011 12:54 PM

I don't love it, but I don't hate it. I like the coloring. But I think it would make a much better back cover or inside photo than the cover. Not my favorite Stevie cover (that would be "The Wild Heart") but it's ten times better than "Street Angel"!!

BTFLCHLD 03-08-2011 12:57 PM

beautiful.

I don't like the bubble or Stevie's airbrushed face that makes her look like a stand in. The Horse doesn't bother me at all. I'm not fond of that thick bush below the tree on the left either.

chiliD 03-08-2011 01:16 PM

Don't "love" it...definitely don't "hate" it, either. just kind of

tilthefirefades 03-08-2011 01:37 PM

I love everything about it, except for the face  I get the dreamy thing, but to me it just looks like a photoshop binge.

Same here. It literally makes her look 1/3 of her age. I realize it probably wasn't her decision to do that, but still... it's a bit silly. I know how we all ribbed Christine for her highly airbrushed cover shot on In The Meantime, but it looks 1,000 times more realistic than this shot of Stevie:

However, the overzealous photoshopping doesn't detract too much from my opinion of In Your Dreams cover, though... I still think it's gorgeous, and ranks as my favorite of her solo career .

Jondalar 03-08-2011 02:13 PM

Stevie needs a rag doll in her free hand. That would be soo cosmically gothic and awesome.

I'm not fond of thick bush either.

TheWILDheart 03-08-2011 03:09 PM

well, to me, it's just ok. It's not what I had in mind at all. It's far more fantasy than I imagined - I was imagining something more earthy. I like the tree's thing. Don't get the need for the horse at all. The lens flare is tacky and Stevie's face is way too airbrushed. But I like the idea behind it and think minus the horse and lens flare it could've been her best.

skcin 03-08-2011 03:25 PM

I wouldn't say I hate it (I take it back - I did say that, actually!) , but I really do not like it. It's really cheesy IMO.

And btw - speaking of album covers that don't look like the subject - I have never thought that Stevie really looks like Stevie on TOSOTM front cover. The back cover, yes. But the front? Not Stevie. She looks odd on The Dance as well.

It looks like Ivy climbing up the tree. That S**t is like a weed. It grows on anything. I have to constantly pull it & snip it away from the brick on my porch. But I do love it climbing my back yard lattice to keep my deck private.

Seriously?
It's just my opinion, but I think Stevie looks more like herself on the In Your Dreams cover than that Christine impersonator on ITM.

Definitely they went too far with the photoshop. That face is not Stevie. Of course they can work the pic for a younger face than the real one, everybody does, but that's almost a teen!! Absurd.

Oh no no no... I see her point. She is saying..

Do I look like this?? Yeah! IN YOUR DREAMS!!

golddustboy71 03-08-2011 04:18 PM

I really like it...the title of the album is after all 'In your Dreams' so perhaps this is a representation of one of Stevie's dreams?? An enchanted forest far away and a mystic lady with her white horse...Think of the lyrics to Forest of the Black Roses..... I'm just really pleased they haven't succumbed to a more commercial concept and gone in a bit more at the deep end:o

KarmaContestant 03-08-2011 04:36 PM

A "Love it, but...." option would have been nice. 'Cause I do love it, mostly. Not totally. Mostly. My opinion is constantly changing in regards to the touchups.

Christopher 03-08-2011 05:09 PM

I love it as well. Its almost perfect.:) I really don't care about how photoshopped or young they made Stevie appear. Thats just all blah blah blah to me. However, my one and only criticism is that the portrait is a wee bit too busy.

Most of Stevie's album covers have been pretty stark studio shots which I love. She started to deviate somewhat with TISL. She incorporated the water element - through the archway to the sea - on the TISL cover, and embellished that to burnished perfection. Here, the one main enhancement (besides photoshop) is the lens flare effect. But otherwise, the tree and vine foliage are rampant, and that background seems to be enhanced even more by this flare effect, while Stevie's image is cooled and subdued. It's just an observation, but in the end I DO love it.
This album is called In Your Dreams for a reason. And the whole "Legend" & "Lord Of The Rings" vibe suits Stevie like a hand to glove.

Moz 03-08-2011 05:17 PM

I hate to say it, but the Photoshop job reminds me of Regan MacNeil pre-possession. :(

wheart 03-08-2011 05:24 PM

HATE IT! Her head looks like a pumpkin. The worst cover ever. Even Street Angel is better than this mess.

You know it does me in the same way. Stevie and Linda Blair do look similar. It's not the photoshop job. It's the look on Stevie's face. The eerie way she is staring at nothing.

ejof17 03-08-2011 05:58 PM

I LOVE it! I don't love the font they used for the title and her name. It reminds me of the Street Angel "Print Shop" type font.

mitzo 03-08-2011 06:05 PM

The photo is good. But does the album content match this theme? Secret Love is not a particularly mystical song. Nor is Cheaper than Free.

The font is not the best in my opinion. They obviously went with an Equesterian font. I think they should of used something more gothic, but it works—barely.

DallasDude 03-08-2011 06:20 PM

Air Brush

If you go back and look at past covers, she's been airbrushed almost every time, especially Timespace, Street Angel and The Dance. It's art, so some artistic license is accepted in the design.

Overall, I still see it as one of her better covers.

starshine 03-08-2011 07:40 PM

not sure yet

Well for now I'm not gonna vote yet. I'm not sure if I love it or hate it yet. I do think its better than SA though. I'm not really loving it though. I wish Stevie had some better expression on her face though. I know she's like never smiled on her LP covers but something better than the stone cold non expression. It does make me wonder what the back picture will be? than of course the outtakes? Some I like better than others. The fonts OK but I would've love some sort of calligraphy not necessarily like BD because there are many different types of calligraphy she could've used but I think it would've been really nice. Something that stands out more. The black dress is ok but more color would've been nice as well. I don't mind the trees. The horse is ok too but not sure the meaning behind the horse. Unless there really isn't one?? So well I guess I have some thoughts but like I said not gonna vote yet til I think about it more and look at it more. The light almost blocking her face some isn't good either. They might be going for effect but I think it detracts from the picture itself . Of course if this is the LP cover. Guess we'll find out later. Time will tell.

I've been trying to get my niece into Stevie/the Mac for YEARS.

When I showed her the new album, it was the first time she showed any enthusiasm.

She loves horses.

Stevie knows.

Yes! That's the way to get the next generation of devotees! Brilliant.

markolas 03-08-2011 09:30 PM

I'll have to see the CD, but my initial impression is that this cover rivals TISL (at least), which is by far her best one. I think all the obsessing over the Photoshopping of her face is a bit much - for one thing, I doubt it's meant to be viewed at a high resolution, and for another, it's not like they've never Photoshopped or airbrushed the hell out of her for an album cover before.

It's a very Rhiannon-esque cover, and whoever said it reminded them of an old album cover from the '60s had it right on, and I think that's brilliant.

mylittledemon 03-08-2011 10:31 PM

I can't vote because I am ambivalent about it. Her face looks distorted or twisted in some weird way that almost makes her look one dimensional.

chiliD 03-08-2011 11:40 PM

Really the only thing about it that irks me is having the text across the bottom. Album cover text (generally speaking) SHOULD be at the top (or at least the artist's name) Anybody a Wizard with Photoshop that they could blank out the existing text of Stevie's name and put it in black (same font) across the top? Just interested to actually see how that would look.

TrueFaith77 03-09-2011 09:38 AM

I am so glad to see so many Ledgies have taken a stand--one way or another--on this issue.

I can't wait til we do a poll comparing the new Lindsey album cover and the new Stevie album cover! yay!! Get on it, Lindseyspeople!

And perhaps after the album actually comes out we can do a poll of all of Stevie's album covers to determine the favorite.

Good point Chili. I know I'm old & people actually shopping for albums/CDs is a rarity these days, but people flipping through them aren't going to see the title & might flip right past it. I mean, you'll know what it is if you're a huge fan & know exactly what you're looking for, but casual shoppers?

Every time i see it, I have a laughing fit....so it's laughable. Bur I don't Hate it.....Geez I don't know. If the covers laughable, I really fear for the album now.

Right but didn't you fear for the album even before the cover was revealed.:shrug:I didn't vote because I'm ambivalent about it. I just don't think album covers matter as much as they used to during the age of vinyl. As long as the album is good I really don't care that much about the cover.

Jondalar 03-09-2011 10:33 AM

In a way, I'm glad Stevie just does what she wants. Otherwise, she might change something like this and I think it's great.

I agree. I think it's her best ever album cover.

The distortion reminds me of Aleksandr Sokurov films.

Yes I did fear the album. This cover did not help. I know it's irrational to base it on a cover....but the worry is there regardless. Fingers crossed that the cover does not match the contents.

I thought you were gonna say it reminds you of Frank Borzage films!

Personally, it reminds me of mid-period Godard & late-phase H.R. Puffnstuff.
