Look what I saw at the record store today...

I'm going on long a road trip this weekend, so I stopped into my local record store to find some new music for the drive. Look what was there:

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a3...301111357a.jpg

My first thought was this is simply a bootleg. But then I went home and looked up Anthem Records... it's a legit record company based out of Portland. I wonder why the CD was made in Australia, then? I'm not sure how it can be digitally remastered, either. Perhaps they just cleaned up the ripped mp3 files the way our very own Brandon (mylittledemon) does?

I know there are quite a few local Austin Ledgies, so if any of y'all want to pick this up it's at Waterloo Records on Lamar. I just couldn't bring myself to spend $18 on it, when it's probably just a bootleg... and likely a dubious quality one at that. They also had a 2 CD The Chain boxed set, by the way :).

Silver Springs 03-01-2011 05:03 PM

You saw that...and didn't buy it? Tut tut! For shame! I'm intrigued by the box set though! I went through Amazon to try and get hold of it and may have gotten swindled *blush* Only got one disc and the cover was the signed leaflet. Oh well. Lesson learned.

Bad Stevie fan! *smack*

There's a few reasons I didn't get it. Mainly, I have an okay quality CD of Buckingham Nicks that a Ledgie made me :). So I don't really need it. Plus, I'm not okay with buying bootlegs masquerading as legit CDs. I see there are a couple of these Buckingham Nicks CDs on ebay. Apparently they're imported from Australia (perhaps that protects them from copyright laws?). I see that Anthem Record's website does not list Buckingham Nicks anywhere. So this is turning into quite a little mystery! :p I'm tempted now to just go buy the stupid thing out of curiosity!

gldstwmn 03-01-2011 05:42 PM

There were 24 bit tracks from a vinyl audio rip floating around not too long ago.

Or so you can just brag to us ;).

mylittledemon 03-01-2011 05:46 PM

That's the SAME cd I have Louie... and it sounds fab. ;) I hope you bought it.

SapphireSister 03-01-2011 05:47 PM

I just realized I have the one you just saw today! On the actual Cd it says
"STEREO
BUCKINGHAM
NICKS
ANTHEM RECORDS COLLECTOR'S ADDITION
STEVIE NICKS
&
LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM
*See tray insert for playing sequence"

It also has an Anthem Records insignia on it. I always thought it was just a marketed bootleg.

aprilsrain 03-01-2011 05:55 PM

Why haven't they just released this and made a crap ton of money again?

I wonder this too... they own the rights, do they not? What are they waiting for?

APerfectLie 03-01-2011 06:22 PM

What the ****ing ****?!?!?!??! Everytime I go to Waterloo they NEVER have a shred of anything Stevie Nicks. That is why I usually shop at Cheapos, but I'm for sure going to skidattle my ass over to Waterloo tomorrow and check this **** out if it is still there. That being said, I did raid Antone's for their Stevie/Mac stuff the other night and got Behind The Mask on vinyl and the single 45 of Dreams!

Under the discography section here it says the liner notes to BuckinghamNicks say this:

(P) 1973 Anthem Record Corporation

Manufactured by Polydor Incorporated

Whatever that means...

I say that about alot of things all of them could 'put out' and release. What are they waiting for??? Til none of us care or are all gone? You don't make $$ that way. I have this cd but no booklet just the cd I think. Its a nice cd. Of course they could make it better if only Stevie and Lindsey would just re-release it even if only in limited quanities. I'll not ever ever understand. I'm thinking as a fan of course but really I think 'if' they wanted something released to the public they'd find a way. IMO anyway.

Agreed. I think they missed the boat on making any money off Buckingham Nicks by at least a decade. Had they ridden on the success of The Dance and perhaps released the album a year later, they could have potentially moved quite a few copies. Since the Dance sold 5 Million copies, I don't see why Buckingham Nicks couldn't have gone at least Gold riding on the Dance's coattails. However, with the state of the music industry today, and the fact the band has ignored it's followers for so very long, it's safe to say they wouldn't move many copies of Buckingham Nicks these days. :distress:

vivfox 03-01-2011 06:45 PM

If this were an official release (money hungry) Stevie would have broadcast it to the world.

mikebise 03-01-2011 06:50 PM

BNicks is the bootleg CD you can buy on Amazon "from Europe".

What was on the 2-CD Box?

Ah, the shortened version.

In 1989, the staff at Waterloo must've gotten tired of me screaming whenever something new of Stevie's came out! I shrieked in May 1989 when I got the "Rooms On Fire" CD-single, and then screamed again when I saw the 12-inch a new minutes later. Same thing in July with the Gatefold "Long Way To Go" 12-inch and its CD-single, and a few months later with "Whole Lotta Trouble" and the CD-single and POSTER 12-inch single! (Of course, my other lady singers also had new albums out in 1989 ~ Kate, Tina, Liza ~ so I was screaming ALL the time at Waterloo with all their import singles and rare b-sides and all that!!! ("Don't drop bombs... baby!!!" Liza & Pet Shop Boys)

They always had tons of Stevie stuff as soon as it was available. Endless 12-inch single from Tango of all kinds... I think the last thing I bought from Waterloo was TimeSpace in vinyl format when it was released in September 1991. And the UK "Sometimes It's A Bitch".

**Wait, I did get the DJ-only vinyl 12" of Tammy Wynette and KLF on "Justified & Ancient" in January 1992, before it was commercially released. That was my final Waterloo purchase before moving to Dallas.

Great post and I couldn't agree with you more. So many release's that Mac and Stevie solo /heck even Lindsey solo could've done (I do think Lindsey needs his own box set too). The list is long and really its only us fans that lose. Which is a bummer to me. Ignored is correct and than slammed because we steal music too. That statement still bothers me today!! Maybe it shouldn't but it does. I went to see Stevie in concert that same week when she made that statement and really I wasn't too excited to be in the audience --maybe I shouldn't take it so personal but well I didn't know how else to take it really. I just didn't think it was called for after all of these yrs even if that really is how she felt. Maybe some things are just better left unsaid. Esp to us as fans. Anyway, I do agree with you 100%.

I remember getting so excited when I get my 12" singles from Mirror and all the 45's PS and all the cd singles. I so miss those days of the LP's and all the anticipation of what was the PS photo gonna be or the B-side to the songs. Oh don't forget our lovely cassette singles too. I've still got all of mine as well. Than all the wonderful fanzines to read. It was an exciting time. Of course the bootlegs which I really was just starting to 'learn' all of that stuff back than. I think some of that was just starting back than. I always recall Wynnco having such outragous prices on that Stevie stuff. I used to get my stuff from them and Goldmine magazine. Later more GM than Wynnco because Wynn was just too high so with GM I found alot cheaper. It was work but I loved looking through all of the ads etc. Of course there were some record stores to or record shows but I didn't get to go to many. Not as many as I'd liked to have. Sometimes I do miss those days. Thanks for reminding me Mike. Happy times. Plus when I was just a 'new' Stevie/Mac fan as well.

WildHearted 03-01-2011 07:20 PM

I mean, Buckingham Nicks is already out there, published, released. It's not like it's a collection of demos that they didn't think were fit to be on an album or something.... so I don't really buy the 'if they wanted the public to have it, they would find a way to release it' argument for that reason alone. The public has already had it.

Does Lindsey not think it's production is up to par? Is Stevie really THAT embarrassed by the album cover? I feel like they've both said at one point that they would like to release it again (Stevie I know for sure has)... it just doesn't make sense.

CADreaming 03-01-2011 07:21 PM

Ok, that freaked me out for a minute...

That's cool but it's not good enough.

The "Anthem Records" that exists today is in no way affiliated with the "Anthem Records" that was a Polydor subsidiary label & went out of business in 1973.

ANY (and that means "ALL") CD of the Buckingham Nicks album is a bootleg. Please people, get it through your heads, until there's a big advertising push by Lindsey & Stevie, the album is not "officially" released...no matter HOW "professional" the packaging looks, feels & smells.

Last we heard there was some kind of hold up on Keith Olsen's end.

I found the exact same thing at Amoeba Records here in SF many years ago, but I bought it :) The sound quality is excellent, and you get the single version of Crying in the Night, which has some extra guitar that I kind of like. :) Plus it saves me from bemoaning the fact that it still isn't out in CD. :)

Ooooohh I want!! I absolutely LOVE that song! It's awesome.

As for Buckingham Nicks, I have a cd copy with the mp3s ripped Buckinghamnicksnet. This includes the 45 version of Cryin In The Night. I also have it on vinyl (awesome!)

Is the cd I have the best quality or is there a way to get a better one?

mikebise 03-02-2011 09:04 AM

My friend John ripped a previously unplayed vinyl copy of BNicks for me in 2001, and it sounds better than ANY CD I've heard, even the "Anthem" bootleg.

Whatever happened to that record company that was going to release some of the seceond album BNicks sessions? They announced it in 2007, there were articles on stevie-nicks.info back then. But it never came out. They announced they had titles that had NEVER been released before in any form.

If you bought that at Waterloo, it's probably the one I sold back to them a while back. It's a bootleg for sure.
