your top 10 Stevie demos

Ok we're gonna the make your top 10 list and add up the points system. At least to start. Then maybe we can try Ethans tribe thing. But that'll be later. For now list your top 10 favorite Stevie demos. 1 is your favorite and will get 10 points and #10 will get 1 point.

*** This is important. If you don't like 10 of Stevie's demos or don't know 10, just list as many as you want. If you know 7 stevie demos, only lik e4 of them and list all 7 your awarding points and helping 3 songs do better in this competition that you dont want to do well. So by listing a song in any position your giving it more points. So only list what you like. I'm sure most of us like at least 10 Stevie demos, but this is for the others.

oh and Secret Love is excluded, but since the masses have yet to hear Moonlight or Anabell Lee, Lady From the Mountain and Anabell Lee are still eligible.

In alphabetical order:

All the Beautiful Worlds
Castaway
China Doll
Forest of the Black Roses
Joan of Arc
Julia
Lady from the Mountain
Space Needle
Something Exquisite
Watchdevil

I didn't realize so many people loved Joan of Arc as much as I do! Good to know ;).

Can I go ahead and pick a winner? All the Beautiful Worlds. O.k. game over :P

No particular order:

1. Julia
2. All the Beautiful Worlds

4. Forest of the Black Roses
5. China Doll
6. Blue Water
7. Lady from the Mountain
8. Baby Doll
9. Sanctuary
10. If You Were My Love

well obviously I can't count you in tallying the scores by doing them alphabetical but your opinions are still felt. Good thing Stevie didn't call her song Aardvark and the ladybug

This was harder than I thought:

1. The Dealer
2. Gold and Braid
3. My Heart
4. China Doll
5. Annabel Lee
6. Lady from the Mountains
7. Space Needle
8. Joan of Arc
9. Blue Water
10. Forest of the Black Roses

Honorable mentions that I hated to cut:
She Loves Him Still
Knockin' on Doors

Clearly I didn't read the rules. :o

F*ck it. Just count them the way they are. They're almost interchangeable anyway.

1. The Maker of Birds
2. Lady from the Mountain
3. Julia
4. Christian (Spinning Wheels)
5. Cecelia
6. All the Beautiful Worlds
7. Love and War (The Mixdown)
8. Sanctuary
9. Forest of the Black Roses
10. Dial the Number

1. If You Were My Love
2. Gold And Braid

4. Lady From The Mountain
5. The Dealer
6. All The Beautiful Worlds
7. Forest Of The Black Roses
8. Chanel, Chanel
9. Christian (Spinning Wheels)
10. Cecilia

My heart told me to put Maker Of Birds at number 1, but my head decided that IYWML/G&B were stronger contenders overall.
A month or so ago, I wouldn't have included Chanel, Chanel - But it's really grown on me lately. I adore that feeling of the musical penny dropping.
Christian is my soft spot, and Cecilia my wild card. I think the latter could have been developed into something very powerful.

1. The Dealer
2. Julia
3. All the Beautiful Worlds
4. Love and War
5. At the Fair
6. Joan of Arc
7. Cecelia
8. China Doll
9. Chanel Chanel
10. Mistaken Love

I think Stevie derived Sisters Of The Moon from Cecelia, I'm sure she sings part of the demo in some live performances / demos of Sisters.

I simply adore the following, and still hope they see the light of day eventually:

1. If You Were My Love. This one is above and beyond my fav unreleased demo. I think Smile At You will always be my ultimate fav, tho.
2. Lady From The Mountain. Only discovered this one less than a year ago... but LOVE it!
3. Blue Water. Also only discovered this one about a year ago. Beautiful little song.
4. Joan Of Arc. Is this one really a demo? It sounds like a completed song to me.
5. Space Needle. I really wish this one would have been recorded. I fear it's too late, now. Stevie's long past this dark period of her life.
6. Mirror, Mirror. LOVE this one. Could have been so very awesome on Rock A Little.

These are cute and charming, but I think are best enjoyed in demo form:

7. Forest Of The Black Roses.
8. Cecelia.
9. Watchdevil.

my boy louie!

almost positive Mirror Mirror was recorded. i think it was the B-side of a TOSM single.

Oh this will be fun, & difficult as i love so many!!

1: All the Beautiful Worlds
2: If you were my love
3: At the Fair
4: Cecelia
5: Joan Of Arc
6: Forest Of The Black Roses
7: 24 Karat
8: Juilia
9: 10: Christian [Spinning Wheels]
10: No Light

I love these just as much :distress::distress:
The Nightmare
Space Needle
Blue Water
Smile At You
Rock A Bye Baby
Mirror Mirror

Forsaken/Mistaken Love
Blue Water
Forest Of the Black Roses
Maker Of Birds
Have No Heart
One More Tomorrow
All The Beautiful Worlds
If You Were My Love
She Calls You Missing
Ooh Baby

are we talking demos that have not been on an album?

Yep, SOTM is the same chord progression with an added bridge. I love Sisters but I just love the overall dark sound of Cecilia and think it could have been evolved :) Though maybe I like it because it's so raw.. Well now I'm going to have to go and listen to it 10 more times.....

Ok so I don't really bother with demos so I'm not even going to go there. I'm surprised though that I haven't seen "Amber" listed on any of the lists. It is by far my most favourite Stevie demo - actually it is the only one I ever listen to.

Well I guess I'm going to chose songs she hasn't put on an album

1. Three birds of Rhiannon
2. Beautiful Worlds
3. Is Anybody There
4. Love you Enough
5. Forest of Black Roses
6. Cecilia - a great mood piece
7.China Doll
8. Amber
9. My Heart
10. Mirror Mirror - her vocal on this track was stellar, one her best ever, I would like to hear that on that album

Mirror Mirror never made it on an album. It counts.

Does anyone else think that Watch Devil could be a really good song if she rerecorded it? I LOVE the bass line and the electric guitar hook. With a bit more instrumentation and a few more vocal harmonies, it could be really fun and funky!

BTW - Watch Devil. Lady From The Mountain, Sorcerer, and She Still Loves Him were the ONLY unreleased songs (at the time) that she quoted in the Enchanted Boxed Set liner notes. Since then, the only song she rerecorded and released was, of course, Sorcerer. LFTM is now seeing its way into Moonlight. Makes you wonder if in fact these were some of her favorite demos, and if one day we might possibly see Watch Devil and She Still Loves Him on an upcoming project?

Of course, I won't be thoroughly satisfied until Blue Water makes it onto a project, either F.Mac, solo, or a soundtrack album.

1.If You Were My Love
2.Blue Water
3.My Heart
4.All the Beautiful Worlds
5.Lady from the Mountain
6.She Loves Him Still
7.Love and War/Mixdown
8.Maker of Birds
9.Mirror, Mirror
10.The Dealer

1) Lady from the Mountain (Unfortunately my favorite RAL version does not seems to be on Youtube.)

2) The Dealer (I think her present voice might do this one very, very well.)

3) She Still Loves Him

4) Sanctuary

5) Watchdevil

6) All the Beautiful Worlds

7) Baby Doll

8) Love and War

9) China Doll

10) Maker of Birds

- Jake

1. My Love Is Never Lost
2. The Dealer
3. Lady From The Mountain
4. She Loves Him Still
5. Forsaken Love
6. Castaway
7. Belle Flower
8. Chanel Chanel
9. Space Needle
10. 24 Karat Gold

Edit: This was difficult - I keep finding more songs that I would like to add to my list - but I'll leave it at replacing Forest of the Black Roses with Chanel Chanel

1. Julia (Take 5)
2. If You Were My Love
3. Mistaken Love
4. She Loves Him Still
5. Space Needle
6. The Dealer
7. Lady From the Mountain
8. Christian
9. Sanctuary
10. Love and War

Another one I overlooked. :o

Hmm, I don't think I have 10.

1. Watchdevil
2. Cat House Blues
3. Goldfish and Ladybug
4. Without You
5. Blue Water
6. Space Needle
7. If You Were My Love
8. China Doll

Kevin

1) The Dealer (aka Mistress of My Fate) (which I think is a better title)
2) All The Beautiful Worlds
3) Gold & Braid*
4) Jimmy Come Back
5) Ooh Baby
6) Charmed Ones: City of Hope (aka The Crystal)
7) Mix Down (aka Love And War) which I also think is a better title
8) Chanel Chanel
9) Blue Water
10) Julia
*11) Since Gold & Braid came out live, if I had to drop it and replace it, I would choose: 24 Karat Gold (but only if it was that R & B Mix) and if not then either:
Frustrated Love (aka Mistaken Love aka Forsaken Love) or This Is My Cross To Bear. And darn it, I also love her version of Tied Up (In Promises). A top 20 list would be much easier lol

I also love Annabel Lee and Lady From The Mountains but since we're getting them in some way shape or form, I'm fine with leaving them off this list.

I'm kind of astonished by how many people picked Watchdevil. Really?

Yeah, I know. That song is obviously a song she wrote about some one who carries a watch chain. It's like Bombay Sapphire which I think she wrote about a bottle cap. It's sorta hilarious. Gotta love her. What's next? Camel Toe?

Um, no...Bombay Sapphires is an actual song. With actual lyrics that makes sense (well, as much as any of her lyrics make sense). Watchdevil is her repeating the same words over and over for a minute and a half.
