"Soldiers Angel" article

Just saw this small write up from VH1 Artists Direct regarding Lindsey working with Stevie on the song "Soldiers Angel". I wonder if "ominous sounding" means Lindsey will be breaking out his snake voice that he used on Illume?

Rhiannon and Miranda sound ominous to me and I know it's not going to be even on the same planet as either of those. So, I wish she would not get my hopes up.

By ominious, she might mean that Lindsey is doing his inexplicable whisper croaking, which inspires most who hear it with troubling questions and a sense of dread.

none of which will sound very buckingham nicks to me.

DashingDan 02-24-2011 02:36 PM

"ominousity"

Christopher 02-24-2011 02:39 PM

I'm sure she meant ominousness:rolleyes: But you wouldn't say that to Bob Dylan! :/

jkmaletic 02-24-2011 03:44 PM

I heard it on saturday and ominous is a good word to describe it. There were no weird whisperings or snake sounds. Lindsey was just doing great harmony with her on it. I'd describe it as a serious sounding song. Kinda like Illume, but no whisper/snake stuff.

Please tell me the words "Walter," "Reed," and "Iraq" do not appear in the song.

None of them appeared in the poem, so I'm guessing no.

^Thanks for posting the poem. It was great to read it again.

I loved the song when I heard and I agree with Jamie's description.
The music had a very ethereal feel to it which were contrasted by the heavy lyrics. Kinda reminded me of Desert Angel. J/K!!

It's sounds nothing like D.A. but it did remind me of the whole idea of her writing about soldiers and war. She talked with great passion and emotion about those she's visited at Walter Reed. It obviously has made a significant impact on her and she loves talking to them, even if they "have no idea who I am" is what she said lol.

TrueFaith77 02-24-2011 06:56 PM

Finally reading the poem, I now understand why Lindsey was involved. Yes, I just cried.

That poem is beyond belief. It moved me. So eloquent yet simple while getting such an important message across. That's our girl, never at a loss for making something beautiful out of something not so beautiful.

Quote:

I am a soldier's girlfriend
As I look upon their facies
They make me remember my first love--
And going out to dances.
They make me remember Camelot--
And being young--
And taking chances.
They make me fall in love again.
They give me all the answers.

I am a soldier in their army
They are the soldiers of my heart.
I try to make them smile again--
though it tears me apart.
their bravery leaves me spellbound;
I try to be a small part--
Of bringing them back again--
They are the soldiers of my heart.
That is the how and--more importantly--the WHY our soldier of love turns heartache into art, compassion into pop. :xoxo:

Imagine Lindsey's voice coming in on or after: "they make me fall in love again"! omg

Mama would be a S-s-slytherin :p
she don't have to be evil
but come on, she could be Mr Malfoy's wife ... the hair goes much better than that atrocious mess his actual wife had for hair in DH1 :D

Looks like Perez Hilton read the article too. I don't care for him, but at least it's some publicity! Could have picked a better picture of Stevie and Lindsey also.

Oh goodness. Cold, red, bundled. Of all the pictures of them out there, he really had to do some work to decide to go with that one. Michele

Artemis 02-26-2011 02:54 PM

I know it's great publicity and all that, but, I REALLY wish Perez wouldn't post Stevie news, she gets such a mauling from a bunch of interent drama hos, it's unbelievable. It just irritates me to read it.

WildHearted 02-26-2011 03:29 PM

I don't mind Perez posting Stevie - I'm actually quite amused by the fact that he's such a fan of hers hahaha. Internet trolls will be trolls.

That's the best quality I've seen of that photo and he had to go and ruin it by scribbling on it.

OT: I wonder when they have those intense stares what kind of nonverbal communication they are having. For instance, here I would guess she's saying something like, "I'm freezing my a** off..." and his response, "You ain't the only one." ;)

Hahaha. Now everytime I see a picture of them like that, I'm going to imagine that they're communicating telephathically and like reading each other's minds.

But in all seriousness, they've known each other 45 dang years, they probably do have a pretty good idea of what the other is thinking.

No doubt! I think that's why they look so hard at each other sometimes. "Read my mind so no one can read my lips!" LOL!

She must. I think the ones who went to the Sunset Sessions said she arrived wearing a fur. Maybe the same one... no, I think it was black because Vanessa Carlton mentioned that during the bunny hopping skit she did.

She might. But the coat in she had for The Today Show didn't seem like real fur to me.

I don't think Stevie would wear fake fur, but who knows.

From the Syracuse.com article back in August...

"And she’s proud of “The Soldier’s Angel,” which she’d been promising herself to write since first visiting the soldiers hospital in Bethesda, Md., five years ago.

For that one, she and Stewart stuck with a demo she recorded herself.

“I decided there’s no way to beat the demo I recorded myself at home late at night,” Nicks says. “It’s brutal and honest, for the kids that are injured."

I guess they changed their minds then, about using the original demo for the album, seeing as how Lindsey is playing guitar AND singing with her. Unless of course it's still the original demo, just with Lindsey added.

Somehow I doubt that, though. It seems to me based on the new information, that they just re-recorded it.

WildHearted 02-27-2011 03:44 PM

Seems to me they re-recorded it to add Lindsey. However, I'd venture to say that it's probably very true to the demo form, which makes me happy.

Stevie's inspiration...

Walter Reed Hospital closing the Washington facility.

Sad that such a historical site will be closed and retail to be built around it. :( Yes, there will still be a Walter Reed hospital, but it won't be in the same place as before.
