Bob & Tom Radio Interview
I caught a bit of the Bob & Tom radio interview with Stevie this morning....at least until my webcast cut out.
Anyway, since there was a long discussion in another thread, I wanted to share that Stevie mentioned the Moonlight song and said that it was inspired by a scene in the New Moon movie and that she could relate to it (something that happened to her with a relationship and she hasn't ever gotten over it) and it made her think of LFTM and so the Moonlight song includes 2 verses from LFTM and and a new verse that she wrote in Oz on the Unleashed tour. She mentioned something about how she knew some of her fans had heard LFTM before cause of the circluated bootlegs, but she sorta just brushed that off. Anyway, she didn't say too much else about it, at least that I can remember. As for the rest of the interview, she talked a little about how she got started with Dave back in 2010, then talked about how 2 of the songs are Mike Campbell songs, how she cowrote 7 with Dave, then she went into some flashback about "Don't Come Around Here No More", then brought it back to only working with Dave as her producer going forward -- solo or with FM. Nothing we haven't already heard in some way, shape or form recently. What else, talked a little bit about the tour with Rod, mostly about how they don't know what duet they are going to do till they get to rehearsals in FL. About 30 seconds into that my computer connection went kaput, so i missed the rest of the interview. Oh, she mentioned something about emailing with Rod. I just chuckled given we all know it's not really her writing those emails. Did anyone else caught this? I hope the B&T show site posts this. I know Nickslive originally posted about the inteverview, so hopefully they have a link or it will be available for download. Amy |

Kinda sad, actually. |
LFTM is one of my top favorite Stevie demos. My initial heartbreak to the news that it has been morphed into "Moonlight" has now been replaced with sheer curiosity. Those who heard it at the Industry show a few days ago say it's really good. And like someone else pointed out, "Planets" got new verses and still ended up a really good song. I still think of it as an entirely different version to that of the "No Light" demo.
But I also think of "Goodbye Baby", which I was kind of disappointed at. I guess we'll find out come May 3rd if Moonlight is worthy of the LFTM demo. I'm no longer sad, and actually looking forward to hearing it now. Edit - I just read Karma's post about Planets...so yeah...ditto! :) |

I love "Goodbye Baby" exactly how it is on the CD, I'm not dissapointed in the least. This is why it is sometimes good to not hear these demos for years and years. At least in this case, it worked out in my favor.

I'm sort of really excited to hear how she's gone with this. I think had she attempted to just remake Lady From The Mountains, a lot of people would have been disappointed; myself included. I love all the brilliant wailing that she does in the demo; she couldn't possibly do that now.
So, it has two verses from Lady From The Mountain... Sticking my neck on the line, I'd say she might possibly use these two; (credit to BuckinghamNicks.net for the lyrics!) You love her But you love your life alone as well But do you know the road Or the reasons why Well, if you leave her You'd be losing the chance to stay alive Well, the candle burns bright Then the candle dies Burning from the middle Like a candle Burning, burning Hopefully learning So go with her You know that you want her Think you could use a dreamer I think somewhere on your side And maybe If that woman could make you crazy Did she call out, did she say, "Please save me" Woah, tonight She says, "Tonight" Tonight Since it seems to fit in with the Twilight/Romance theme more, I can see them working out. |

From http://nickslive.blogspot.com/
"MOONLIGHT A VAMPIRES DREAM": The first song on the CD. Two of the verses were written sometime in the mid-1970's and said a lot of her fans have that demo already bootlegged... Was touched by the movie New Moon in the Twilight series, where he says to her "I'm leaving you because you're not very good for me". Said she had an experience like that a long time ago that she never really did get over. So when she saw that part in the movie where she's sitting in the bay window just staring out and it goes Oct...Nov... Dec... and she's not eating or sleeping, she thought about the lyrics, "Some call her strange lady from the mountains..." and the story takes place up in Oregon. So she thought these words in this old song were almost like I wrote them for this movie a long time ago. So she wrote one new verse and a chorus and she did that in Australia 2009 right after seeing the movie. It's her favorite song on the CD. |

Thanks for posting this. Time will tell, of course as always in Stevie world but it is interesting that she said, "I told Dave that I told Lindsey I'm never doing another record without Dave." Hmmm.... wonder what Lindsey's response was...

With all this Lady From The Mountain talk as of late, does anyone know when this song was written? It's kind of hard for me to place. The version posted on Buckinghamnicks.net sounds vaguely Wild Heart era... but could just as easily have been a shelved Mirror Mirror track as well. The versions posted on youtube definitely seem to be later. Any speculation as to who the song is directed at?

I have an old demo cassette I bought maybe 18 years ago at a record show that has 3 versions of 'Lady From The Mountain' on it and it was hand-labeled as 'RAL' demos, which isn't reliable fact, but my guess still is early to mid 1980s is when 'LFTM' began circulating.

Now this is interesting. I have to say that, as far as demos go, whatever Stevie decides to do with them is entirely her prerogative. I think of the demos as very rough sketches and, ultimately, what ends up on an album is her final vision for the song (more or less...hopefully).
Also, it does sound less like this song is literally about the Twilight movie, or some kind of homage to it - more like she was inspired by a scene from it. |
I wonder if she is comparing the Bella/Edward situation to her and Joe Walsh? Didn't he claim he had to leave her because she was adding to his drug abuse? I could be wrong...
At any rate, I find Joe Walsh annoying! Does anyone know where we can hear the full interview? |

Wouldn't it be great if someone leaked the SYW demos/alts/sessions etc? Just sayin' :blob2:

The original track listing for Rock A Little that Ginny Kamano sent out in November 1984 had "Lady From The Mountains" listed on it (along with "Thousand Days", "She Still Loves Him", "Mirror, Mirror" and many more). On my "Rock A Little ~ 25 Years!" thread, JeffD enchanced the Rock A Little version of "Lady From The Mountains" that I posted. It's awesome!
The earlier versions are from 1980 and 1981. No versions in fans' hands seem to be earlier than 1980 based on the dates from the Masters. However, Stevie is saying she wrote it in the mid-1970s. |

Going by Stevie, everything she ever wrote was written in the mid-'70s. Now I'll buy that she wrote LFTM around 1978 and didn't actually create a demo until around the time she was recording stuff for Bella Donna (1980-ish). Same with Secret Love, which is apparently the song about which she said "I don't know why it didn't go on the first Fleetwood Mac album." I haven't listened to the demo in a while, but her voice sounded to me like it was recorded around 1978-1980. I suppose it *could* be from 1976 like she said, but even so, the first FM album came out in '75. Maybe she meant Rumours. |

"Mirror, Mirror" ~ The lead single to precede the album's release! "Chanel, Chanel" "Lady From The Mountains" "One More Big Time Rock And Roll Star" "The Dealer" "Thousand Days" "Rock A Little" "Battle Of The Dragon" ~ With Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers "I Sing For The Things (Money Can't Buy)" Of course, Rock A Little was not released in January 1985. Then, in May 1985, Stevie went back in the studio with Jimmy Iovine, and recorded at least 3 additional songs completely, including: "Talk To Me" In August 1985, the new release date was October 1985, with 25 songs now fully recorded for the album, including: "Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You?" "She Still Loves Him" "Sister Honey" Oh, and in a different Stevie fanzine from early 1985, two other songs were listed as fully recorded for Rock A Little: "I Call You Missing" "The Nightmare" |

I don't remember "Lady From The Mountains" being from Rhiannon, but it fits the timeframe. The songs I remember from our detective work of last year are: "Rhiannon" "Forsaken Love" "The Maker Of Birds" "Stay Away" "Planets Of The Universe" "Forest Of The Black Roses" "Angel" "Kind Of Woman" "Sorcerer" ...Even though "Sorcerer" was written well before "Rhiannon" or Stevie learning of the Mabinogion. But, Stevie said in 2001 that "Sorcerer" and "Planets Of The Universe" were from that Rhiannon cycle of songs. |

Also, the reel labeled as Lady From the Mountain "Work Tape" sounds like it might be earlier, just based on the lack of song structure in the recordings. Edit: On this work tape, a demo is being played in the bacground, while someone makes an attempt to pluck a guitar along with it. The demo being played in the background at times sounds like many other demos of LFTM, but has some parts that are clearly different from other circulated demos. |

Remember when Rob had the demo "Lady From the Mountains Part 2"? That's what it was called on the vinyl acetate. Stevie I guess decided to drop the "Part 2" crap. |

What's this acetate with "Lady From The Mountains" on it? I must've missed that. |

You can find them listed here as well, if you'd like to confirm I'm not making this stuff up. http://www.angelfire.com/mac2/nickslive/MasterR2R.html Quote:
