Chris, darling. I didn't hear you say that :) |
Every Day?!?!?!?!?!??!? WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?!
Definitely not her best song, but one of her most amazing videos. Rooms On Fire. I love the video, but the graphics kill me. |

Hmm Talk To Me or If Anyone Falls?? At this point gotta go with>> If Anyone Falls. Stevie looks like shes about to fall in the ballet sequences. (though Stevies hair is in dire need of some hot oil in TTM;). |

If Anyone Falls... Its just awkward

Okay, Stevie is beautiful in the "Every Day" video, but I think the song just ruins everything. I tried watching the video and appreciating it, but the song itself overshadows the visuals for me. Stevie sounds so uninspired on the vocal.

Rooms on Fire
It's shlocky-female-impersonatorish. It's like watching Mae West in "Myra Breckenridge." The one good shot of the dancing by the pool isn't nearly enough to save it because that by itself rises only to the level of "Dynasty." After that, it's I Can't Wait. Chris Nicks, Lori Perry, Sharon Celani (dressed as always like a Sunset Boulevard hooker), & Mick Fleetwood march like wood planks. Is that a clydesdale's idea of choreography? The director should have asked these stiffs to bust a move or break a sweat. Even in the middle of the repellent 1980s, this video was never hip. It was just stupid. |

Talk to Me and I Can't Wait are the two epic Stevie videos for me. She rocks them both. Even Rooms on Fire is fantastic because she wrote it herself. |

but they'd already practiced the marching in the talk to me video. the had it down. and oh they "bust a move" alright:laugh: again, i direct everyones attention to the 2min 30sec mark of that vid. *shudders*:o I do like *MOST* of the rooms on fire video. ESPECIALLY cause she wears RED (and not freekin black.) (i only dig the black if it is accompanied by rhiannon sleeves.) but that part where she spreads the sleeves in pink at the top of the balcony. *swoon* Magical. but THATS the stevie i love. not the punked out the-80's-will-never-end stevie, but the timeless magical and mysterious one. and i think rooms on fire has a bit of that for sure. |

About 'If Anyone Falls'...I always feel that Stevie looks totally awkward while dancing and singing... Especially the point at the camera... The backup singers singing looks awkward too... The dancing stuff doesn't bother me and neither does 'Mick the Monk'...
Next is 'Rooms on Fire'... The bad special effects make it look cheap... I feel that 'Stand Back (MTV Version)', 'I Can't Wait', 'Everyday' and 'Sorcerer' were the best videos for reflecting Stevie's image with true quality... While 'Stand Back' is cheesy now, it is very in its place for the 80s, and the imagery is really good... 'I Can't Wait' is edited wonderfully with the song... and Stevie looks absolutely beautiful in the TISL videos... I just wish that there had been a video for "Planets of The Universe"... |
In my opinion the trouble with Stevie's solo videos began with the Stand Back-Scarlet version, directed by the then hot Brian Grant. Stevie wanted to do a great theme video, shot on locations, with costumes & extras on scale with Gypsy, but when it failed miserably, Stevie decided to go back the basic performance video concept shot on a soundstage, with her bopping in the backlight in ALL her mid 80's vids. The only difference are the props used & her hairstyle:o. To make matters worse (and probably for Stevie's comfort) beginning with IAF was the dreadful decision to feature her background singers all the time & then also her brother appearred in both RAL vids. It was super cheesy! They added nothing, nada, and the cringe factor started to creep in. To compound matters Stevie used the same director Marty Callner for all of these hopeless and uninspired videos, and I guess he just couldn't say NO to Stevie or get her out of her comfort zone (sound familiar) & try to get her to do something new. Though not surprising it's also worth mentioning this was during Stevie's most stubborn era. Remember Jimmy did say NO to Stevie and walked away....
So to me Rooms On Fire, though peppered with performance shots, was a 1st in her solo vid attempt to get her beyond her comfort zone, and attempt some basic storyline. At the time I was ecstatic to see Stevie do something more elaborate. So I think Stevie should be applauded for Everyday & Rooms On Fire and to some degree Sorcerer. Though not her best songs, they are some of her best visuals. And thats what I am voting for, not the song. |
Out of the ones left... Least favourite video is easily Rooms on Fire. It hasn't aged well
I love the Everyday video, I think she looks totally stunning in it. I also really love the song too, so, I suppose that helps. |

"Everyday" is my least favorite of all her singles and the video is also a complete disconnect for me as well. I can't stand the unsteady framing at the beginning where Stevie appears to be looking over a hedge or fighting to simply be in the shot. I liked Sorcerer and those fire engine red lips so much more.
There so many things wrong with Rooms and I Can't Wait but that's why I love them |
