Wikipedia: Mirage Remastered

Not sure if this has been posted or not, but I came across this interesting piece of information the other day on wikipedia:

A new Remastered & Expanded version of Mirage is due for release in mid-2011 buy Rhino/Warner Music Group. CD 1 will be the original album remastered and CD 2 will feature bonus material taken from the Mirage era, such as B-sides and outtakes. A track listing for this release has not yet been announced.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mirage_...wood_Mac_album)

Has anyone else heard about this? Has there been any official announcement?

RickRobert 01-26-2011 12:14 PM

Whoever put that on there did the same to the TITN page. It's bull though.

Would be nice, if it were true, though!

I love Mirage, more than most people....

Silver Springs 01-26-2011 01:14 PM

Oh, they tease! It would be nice to have Mirage and Tango remastered with all those lovely extras (not that I don't have most of them anyway thanks to the download threads :p).

Artemis 01-26-2011 01:26 PM

It would be interesting to see what "extras" they would put on the second disk. Shame it's probably not true though, I'd buy a Mirage re-master in a heartbeat.

Dodfather 01-26-2011 01:54 PM

I'd love these remasters to actually happen but I think this might be one of the examples of how wikipedia can be notoriously unreliable!

MissLadyLoki 01-26-2011 02:12 PM

Even though I've never been fond of Mirage at all (as many of you know), that didn't sound true to me the least bit.

However, I'd love to see the Mirage show get a proper DVD release though

PenguinHead 01-26-2011 06:20 PM

If the news was credible, what would the bonus tracks be?

Goodbye Angel
Cool Water
Blue Monday
Teen Beat
???

Artemis 01-27-2011 07:37 AM

Smile At You and If You Were My Love remastered, along with those tracks, maybe?

It's weird, I know of a few Stevie and Lindsey demos from the Mirage era, but not from Christine... anyone?

I think I once heard a Hold Me demo on YouTube, but then again, you're looking at the gal who gets Say Goodbye and Goodbye Angel mixed up

chiliD 01-27-2011 11:26 AM

Well, at one point, the "Remaster project" was supposed to be the entire WB/Reprise CATALOGUE. (That's from Then Play On through Time, yes, Time) They started with FM '75, Rumours and Tusk as the first three, then supposed to release the rest over the next couple of years...well, somebody obviously put a kabosh on that project. Maybe it's back on the burner again.

Wouldnt it be interesting to see some vault songs from the 69-74 era? I would love that!

Well, with Vaudeville Years & Showbiz Blues sets, Then Play On has kind of been mined...as well as the Kiln House era with the Madison Blues set. But, the Welch era would definitely be interesting to see what's been left in the can.

I was pretty disappointed with the first three reissues, other than one or two dusty gems (mainly speaking of Rumours & Tusk), we just got alternate versions of the songs that were on the albums. (and, even still, didn't get the cool "Songbird"-esque piano version of "Never Make Me Cry" that's been circulating on bootlegs for years on the Tusk reissue)

Let's hope that if there IS a few other albums reissued, they'll do a better job at coming up with some nearly finished outtakes that never saw light of day. (don't need some half-assed distorted unfinished demo of "Smile At You" or some studio jam of Fats Domino's "Blue Monday"...something more substantial, like "Goodbye Angel" & "Teen Beat" that showed up on The Chain box set.)

Tango In The Night seriously needs to be remastered, the production is well pants! Plus I need You And I Pt. 1 in good quality...

I don't mean to be a dumb American Rowan, but pants?

Anyways, a second disc of not just demos, but maybe those B-sides I heard about (anyone know what are they?)

Pants=Slang for craptacula.

Why don't you have a look in the Demos thread? I know it's mostly Stevie material, but I found some wonderful Mac gems in the thread archives. There were some really nice Mirage outtakes. Blue Monday would be my favourite. So much 'tude from Lindsey :D

I can't remember what was in the thread now, but if you PM me at some point I can send you the links to download what I have :)

Ricky
Down Endless Street
You & I, Part 1
Book Of Miracles
(the instrumental backing track for a song that eventually became "Juliet")

That was it! I always swore there were more B-sides, but I might be getting some Mirage tunes mixed up too

The B-side of the "Gypsy" single is the non-LP track, a cover of the Sons Of The Pioneers' "Cool Water".

LukeA 01-27-2011 11:14 PM

Pretty crazy that "Goodbye Angel" wasn't tacked on as a b-side to one of those "Mirage" singles. Lindsey must have wanted to keep it for himself?

That was it! I always seem to turn non-album B-sides for bands into a huge mess and think they're these lost, mysterious things and that more exist than actually do (sorry, I grew up in the age of buy CDs or download)

Anyways, a random theory here, but I noticed that those TITN B-sides all seem to have originated from Lindsey. Were they tracks that would've been on the album if it was a Bucky solo album and when it became a Mac album, they got removed and left to be B-sides?

"Ricky" is a Christine McVie song.

But the song itself, still sounds like a demo. It's a little monotonous, and just needs some "fleshing out".

Like Luke said, Ricky is a Christine song, and Book of Miracles is Lindsey's instrumental arrangement of Juliet which was written by Stevie. There's a really good Tango outtake of Juliet, stylistically pretty much like Think About Me mixed with Angel or something. That would make a great bonus track if they remaster it!

Where can I hear Ricky without having to go hunting for 45s and whatnot? Does anyone have a MP3 of it?

So wait, Juliet was a colaboration between Lindsey and Stevie? Based on what I heard so far, Juliet was almost a Mac song, but we got the instruemental version Book of Miracles instead and the full Juliet ended up on Other Side of the Mirror(sorry, haven't really paid attention the album after Rooms on Fire and Long Way to Go)?

I don't mean to ask so many questions folks. This era has me intrigued now

Juliet was written by Stevie alone, Book of Miracles is just Lindsey's own instrumental arrangement of it. I don't like OSOTM much at all but I love Juliet and Book of Miracles!

Thanks Rowan:) I shall download 'em later.

Also, does anyone know why You and I Part II and not Part I is on the album? I always found that a bit strange and, when I was first getting into the Mac, I just figured Part I was on Mirage or something, not an entire B-side

It was left off at the last minute, in favor of a Stevie song that made it on at the last minute.

I think I know Part I, but if that Stevie song wasn't 7 Wonders, I must ask one thing: what in hell were they thinking?!

There isn't much else to love there...An uncharacteristically bad Christine song and performance.

From what I heard, Warner Bros insisted that three, not two, Stevie songs get on the record.

I do remember that was the original announcement. The entire collection.
But.. that was 2004, right? It has been almost 7 years. Kabosh or not, nowadays the CDs market has changed a lot. Stores are closing, used CDs are a growing option, there are MP3 downloads, Itunes, etc. I don't think this would be a good idea in commercial terms.

For us the fans, we would love it. Specially because the Mirage CD sound sucks. We need a remastered. And of course there are the bonus tracks, new pictures, etc. But I don't think it would be a finnancial success. And I guess that was the main reason they didn't follow after the 3 releases.

Unless they sell it thru Itunes or any new alternative. But even so I'm not sure it will make it.

I guess it just a rumour.

Villavic 01-28-2011 05:02 PM

Ok even thugh I didn't think it was coming, I couldn't help to check at amazon if there is a "new Mirage" announced.

None. But I found this Mirage album of Klaus Schulze, no idea who is he, but the album cover.. doesn't she look like a young Stevie??

Yeah, Christine using her "sexy" voice:laugh:.

Even if Christine had been the only writer though, I hear Lindsey in it, because the silliness reflects his personality when he's being goofy.

Similarly, I hear Christine in Say You Will and I hear Stevie in Miranda, at least I feel their influence.

Klaus Schulze was in Tangerine Dream and played with Steve Winwood (among other things). :)

Tangerine Dream.... I was a foreign exchange student to Germany in 1970-71. I loved these guys....they were a part of what was known as "Krautrock".

As for Mirage coming out again with extra material...I'd buy it. I am a sucker for anything that is commercially produced. I love the demos but I don't know how to clean them up like mylittledemon does....
