Poll: B, C or D, or BAG?

I am only curious, with lawyer dealings lately, and things do have to be considered.
So, what is your preference, for that eventual time, for yourself?
I don't think I've ever seen this poll here before, and sure, it's what it is, not a favorite thought.
I wonder if one choice comes out way ahead of another, as I have decided C.
Reasons optional.
I chose C because it seems tidier, and I am both insect and below-ground terrified.
So, when you die
Do you want to be:

B- Buried
C- Cremated
D- Don't plan to specify, I won't care, let someone else decide for me.

edit- or, BAG: Buried Above Ground. (Showy and spiffy!)
Can't figure out how to add BAG to the poll, may be a Mac thing.

mylittledemon 01-22-2011 12:12 AM

Buried.

I don't like the idea of being burned. It feels pagan to me. I don't say that with any religious agenda... It just doesn't feel right, to me. To each their own.

Musicman408 01-22-2011 12:20 AM

Buried here!!

chriskisn 01-22-2011 04:19 AM

Hmmm...I think I'd rather be donated to science or sent off to a taxidermist and propped up in the corner as a hat stand.

APerfectLie 01-22-2011 05:05 AM

Call me weird, but I actually want to build a pyramid and be mummified and entombed within the pyramid.

bluefox4000 01-22-2011 10:00 AM

Don't care...and won't care. I'll be dead.;)

Cremated, the thought of my body being eaten by worms and other insects after I'm gone is utterly repellent to me.

Silver Springs 01-22-2011 10:44 AM

Harvest me for organs/blood/entrails etc, stuff me and put me on display in an art gallery. I'll be dead so not as though dignity will be an issue.

estranged4life 01-22-2011 11:18 AM

Don't care...

to be honest...When I'm dead it won't matter either way, I left that up to whoever inherits all my **** if I 'bite the dust' sooner than later.

But at least I already own a headstone, a plot and it's all payed for (At a sad expense...obviously!)

That's what I feel. Some people say "Oh, I don't want to donate their organs or have an autopsy done on them because I don't want anyone messing with their body.." I'm like, -__- "It's not like their going to care. Dead is dead." Lmao. And anyway, after their done taking your organs and all that jazz they sew you back up so it's not like you're completely destroyed... plus you help save other people's lives.

Sorry that got kind of deep. :distress:

Deep but true. Some religions do claim that you need to be "whole" for the afterlife. I'm sorry, but you're dead. So why would you need your organs or circulatory system? To me, a just and fair "higher power" would want you to help your fellow man as much as humanly possible. I've learned to take whatever's written in holy books as speculation and human accounts that are open to interpretation and error. But that's just my personal opinion as I wouldn't for a moment wishe to question anybody's personal beliefs. Everybody has the right to believe in whoever/whatever they want :)

Cremated then compressed into a diamond

Somebody's going to be a high maintenance corpse ;)

LittleCharmer 01-22-2011 01:49 PM

Buried. I like the thought of just turning to dust over time. But only after they've taken every possible useful organ etc from me. Take it all, I won't be using it! :D

jannieC 01-22-2011 02:30 PM

After my organs are donated, it will be up to my daughter to decide what to do with my remains (on my dime, of course). I want her to bury me if she wants to visit me in a cemetery or cremate me if she wants to scatter my ashes in the ocean. She's the one who will care, not me. :)

Me, too. Add to the fact that I'm claustrophobic as hell, and I'll pick a good old bonfire, any day. Followed by a kegger!

I can't stand the thought of being locked in a box, which is buried! Yes, even though I'll be dead. I have a deal with my cousin....if she outlives me. I'll live on her mantle, and she'll put a few drops of beer in my urn, every day.:D:blob2:

I understand. What if you're not completely dead & you wake up? That is so far fetched, but you never know. Also, I will never watch the movie Buried. I would squirm in my seat from start to finish.

Do you know that that's where the phrase "dead ringer" comes from?
That people used to be afraid that the corpse might not really be dead, and some sort of bell string, was run into the coffin, so the person could ring the ~above ground~ bell, should they wake up.

What's the Jeff Bridges/Keifer Sutherland/Sandra Bullock(?) movie? Crap, I can't think of the name of it. He's BURIED alive, in a coffin. I'd just die of a heart attack, right then and there!

I think it's titled Vanished...that's the one where Keifer & Sandy stop at a gas station and she disappears, right? Jeff Bridges is some Eastern European doctor/professor?

Great movie!!

YES! I've got it on VHS, somewhere. I've not seen it for probably 7 years. It is a really good movie!

Oh I've totally heard of that before! I'm like shaking uncontrollably just thinking about something like that. If I woke up and rang the bell, it would be my luck that on that day the person supposed to hear it would be dead himself, or on break. It's more unlikely someone would wake up nowadays though. Especially since I want to donate my organs, so I know there would be no possible way I'd still be alive. Unless I turned into a Zombie. I watch too many movies *sigh*

HomerMcvie 01-22-2011 05:08 PM

Me too, on the organ donation. Raid my body of anything useful, then send my ass to the incinerator!

That's why I rarely watch it. The burial part, scares the sh*t out of me!

louielouie2000 01-22-2011 05:51 PM

It took me a long time to come to this conclusion, but cremated. I want to be spread around someplace by beautiful water. I figured there's just no point in me having a grave and headstone... I'll never have children or grandchildren, so nobody will really be alive after I'm gone to warrant a grave. After all, cemeteries are for the living, not the dead. Plus, it just seems horribly wasteful to fill the earth with cemeteries. And I hate the idea of being stuck in a box... and my remains possibly getting flooded or eaten by insects. It just seems more sensible and responsible for me to be turned to dust instead of rotting in the ground in a cemetery no one will ever visit.

The notion of being buried, in the year 2011, is hilariously primitive. I absolutely understand the notion of wanting to have a memorial for loved ones to visit and appreciate, but, tell me...

In 100 years is anyone going to even remember who you are? Does it really matter what happens to your physical body after you die? Is it so important and sacrosanct? What makes *you* so special that your rotting carcass deserves a plot of land on an overcrowded planet for the rest of eternity?

markolas 01-22-2011 11:43 PM

Never thought too much about it, but I guess you can count me in with the hell-bound heathens who want to be cremated.

KarmaContestant 01-24-2011 04:58 PM

Cremation. Burial is waste of space that could be put to better purposes.

I think that's precisely who it's for. Those of us who are still alive. Honestly, I've only seen my Dad's grave twice in the almost 5 years it's been since he died. I don't know if I'll ever go again either.

I completely understand that. But, would it be any less significant if your loved ones' remains weren't at the memorial site? Of course that question is both personal and rhetorical, but... to me, after death, vivid, shared memories and thoughts are far more significant and dynamic than a piece of land that was (save for family crypts) completely irrelevant to the person before their death.

mylittledemon, if I am assuming incorrectly, pls. disregard this or correct me- but I am assuming that it is you in the very good photo with Lindsey. I also assume that there's a good story about how it all came to be that you met him, and that I have missed reading it. Would you mind writing again about it, in as much detail as you care to?
The jacket looks smashing on you, by the way- I like it better than LB's, though his is perfectly good. You wear it like you had it designed and tailored for yourself, and a quality in you is captured in that photo that says 'Damn right'.
I think you look classy with a nonchalance beyond your years, as I've assumed that you are a "kid" from what I've read from you. (From my stilted perspective, a kid would be anyone 23 or younger. I wonder how many of my assumptions here were wrong.) You'd be surprised, maybe, to know how many people who are much older would not seem as 'comfortable in their own skin' as you do in the shot.
Regardless, nice photo.
Who's the woman in the chair? It's 1:30 am, and I don't want to turn the lights on, and can't quite make out the detail of her image.I can barely see the keys as I type. The eyes, you know- after the mind, they're the first thing to go :)
P.S. I am very sorry about your loss of your father.
