I think that calling this HQ is a bit of a stretch, but I def better then I've seen before.
Thanks for sharing!
As crappy as this video is, I really love the part with the twirling, mirrored Stevies.

SuperFleetwood 01-18-2011 02:53 PM

crappy? thanks....

I'm not referring to the quality of your video but the video itself is a mess and I can totally see why they never officially released it

SuperFleetwood 01-18-2011 03:17 PM

Oh ok :sorry: :o yeah, i dont see it relating to the song at all!

TheWILDheart 01-18-2011 03:26 PM

whats the story behind this video? Was is shot and then just scrapped?

mikebise 01-18-2011 04:18 PM

Paul Fishkin's autobiography says he directed it, and then he thought it was too amateurish to release. For 1981??? It fits right in with "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around"!

Do you mean Danny Goldberg?

baboles 01-18-2011 06:01 PM

Thank you! I haven't seen a copy this clear in a long time. :)

Me too! And the part where she is on the beach. Those are the only two really good parts of this video. Also, I always thought the guy in the pictures and in the video was her brother Chris. Which makes this video scream incest.

Sahara 01-18-2011 07:27 PM

Great quality video, better than what I've seen, and certainly better than the one these were made from:

I really hope a perfect copy turns up some day!

It is Chris. But, he's playing a role - not himself as her brother....

cristochango 01-18-2011 07:57 PM

Does anyone have an image of her at 2:23? I think that may be one of the most beautiful "pictures" of her ever.

jannieC 01-18-2011 08:44 PM

Thanks for posting this- I haven't ever seen a clear version. The beach shots are fantastic, aren't they? She was just so stunning. The final shot of her smiling at the end is beautiful.

mikebise 01-18-2011 08:51 PM

Yes, Danny! I was at work ~ sorry!

HejiraNYC 01-18-2011 08:54 PM

I'm too lazy to dig through my box of VHS tapes (I don't even have a VCR anymore!), but I could swear there is a second edit that omits all of the "dramatic" interludes. I could definitely see why this was scrapped; I think they must have spent all of $27.66 on production- $19 of it was spent on shoulder pads! They couldn't even use real film, for crikeys sake.

That reminds me of Latoya Jackson appearing in the Say Say Say video as Michael's love interest.

Bahahahaha! $27.66! Epic! They really could've spent some money and made a better video though. Such a shame really. I know videos were kind of becoming a mainstream thing to do and it just boggles me that nobody had an imagination to do something better. I enjoy watching the beach scene, the twirls, Stevie walking down the hallway, etc etc...but the whole band set-up was just awful. Sharon and Lori looked/acted ridiculous IMO. Poor Stevie couldn't even lip sync the words.

Yes, there are two versions of the "Edge Of Seventeen" video. The second is just the lip-synching only, no beach condo scenes. Either one would have fit in perfectly on MTV in 1981-82.

I must disagree with you here. The acted scenes would have fit well back then but the lip synced scenes would never have worked. Even then they looked amieraturish.< I know I spelled that wrong. I've had this video since 1986, so I know what I'm talking about.

UCYOURGYPC 01-19-2011 03:29 PM

WHY was this not on the Crystal Visions DVD???? Which makes me want to add; If you ever did believe, Leather & Lace live 1981, and Insider....HELLO?????!!!!!!!!!

HejiraNYC 01-19-2011 11:47 PM

I'm afraid this is my favorite "Edge of Seventeen" video:

I have an even better quality version of this withdrawn "Edge Of Seventeen"video i just purchased for a dollar!! :blob1::blob2::wavey::xoxo:

(I love the blobs)

PenguinHead 01-20-2011 11:53 PM

The whole video should have been Stevie walking on the beach in her black dress. That is the most stunning shot, yet it was a few seconds, juxtaposed with really bad "band" shots.

Sadly, Sharon looks like she was just grabbed off the street and was forced to be in the video. She seems so awkward and nervous. She really has come a long way since then. She's a seasoned pro now, and more polished. Though, sometimes she looks good, and other times she can look very scary!
