Stevie News: She's Touring With...

... Rod Stewart this Summer!

A friend of mine who is very close with some of Stevie's friends and hangers-on just sent me a snail mail (with some cool Stevie goodies, including Tusk on vinyl that he personally had every member in Fleetwood Mac sign for him in 1979!), in which he said he was told Stevie will be touring with Rod this Summer.

He was also told by his friends who are Stevie friends who've heard the new album that it is "fantastic" and just about her best album ever!

This guy is the most genuine, real, truly nice person I've met, so I believe him. Exciting!!!!

LukeA 01-06-2011 06:06 PM

That'll do well in the sheds.

I'll pass, though, thanks.

RockALittle250 01-06-2011 06:07 PM

Well now it all makes sense!

I do hope this is after her album has been released, however.

BombaySapphire3 01-06-2011 06:08 PM

So I guess this means that her set will be truncated with less of a chance to play new material.:distress:

Eh, I think its more of a double bill situation.. I don't think the set will be truncated. The tickets will be priced (accordingly) higher; everyone be prepared to pay over $100 for anything in the first 30 rows.

Just like Stevie, Rod hasn't released an album of "new" recordings (just albums of well known covers/standards) since 2001. If you were hoping that Stevie was going to load up the setlist the new songs, this is just about the worst possible scenario you could have feared.

RockALittle250 01-06-2011 06:37 PM

Something else that's interesting, Rod has a "Best Of" being released on Feb 1st which is a retrospective of all of his "Songbook" cover albums, so obviously he will be promoting that.

As far as Stevie goes, let's hope she uses this Ellen appearance to at least announce the title of her upcoming album while they're on the topic of who's releasing what and when.

Yeah ..I can see that .A double bill for mass boomer consumption ala what the Mac and Eagles would have been ..just smaller in scope.

louielouie2000 01-06-2011 06:45 PM

Yikes... this is going to make for some pricey tickets :distress:. I guess this keeps Stevie playing big venues, though. She's gotten to the point where she can't fill out 12-15,000 seat amphitheaters by herself any longer. I can just hear all the snarky geezer-rocker comments from the press regarding this touring union... yuck :(

BombaySapphire3 01-06-2011 06:56 PM

Yet another predictably mercenary move likely done to offset the cost of the new album which barring a fluke she now knows will not sell in the quantities of the past.I'd gladly have paid the same to see her in a smaller venue but performing more new material. The most we'll get is probably a couple of songs now.

In an interview over the summer where Stevie was talking about the album, she said she'd only be doing about 3 songs from the new album anyway, so i don't think there was ever hope for more new material to be included in her upcoming setlist(s).

I'm gonna find the interview and post it...i'm sure it's somewhere on Nickslive.

Christopher 01-06-2011 07:04 PM

Wow, this hit me out of left field. Poor Dave, gets shoved aside. You can practically smell that promotors were probably still eyeing the success of the James Taylor/Carol King double bill when they put this idea together, but this time more in the rock n' roll vein. I only hope there is no duet with Rod on the new record. I've never seen Rod in concert, I'm sort of indifferent to him so this could be interesting. At least she's going on the road with another Rock Legend! And the chances of her tour outing being successful are more guaranteed.

I do remember that .I had a slim hope she might change her mind particularly if the album does well with critics and fans. She has compared it to Bella Donna which she performed more than half of on that tour. This announcement really puts the kibosh on that .

camchristo 01-06-2011 07:20 PM

Gross. I can't stand Rod Stewart. So, if I want to see Stevie, I'm going to be paying out the asss to see half a concert.

jellyman10 01-06-2011 07:21 PM

Holy hell, this is a depressing thought to go to bed on. Maybe I'll wake up tomorrow.

RockALittle250 01-06-2011 07:26 PM

Found it! The interview is from the end of August:

""...Don't expect Nicks to preview any of the spectacular songs in Atlantic City. "I never do songs I'm working on. Otherwise they'll be on YouTube the next day."

Nicks also believes playing new songs short changes the audience.

"If I go see my favorite band and they take out "Rhiannon" and "Stand Back" to put new ones in I would be disappointed. You can't make people listen to a bunch of new material no matter how good it is. I learned that a long time ago. We did that with (Fleetwood Mac's) "Rumours" tour and we almost got booed off stage."

Next year when the album comes out, she'll do up to three new numbers on stage.""

This is an interesting pairing I have to say... I heard either on here, or someone tweeted awhile back they were touring together... Anybody recall that?

Anyway... I still kind of have a hard time believing a Stevie and Rod tour... or vice versa... He draws larger crowds then she, so who'd be the opener??

Plus, do competing label artists tour together? He's on J Records, she on WB. - or is that a non-issue?

CADreaming 01-06-2011 07:39 PM

I thought she was touring with Dave...

Nevermind - ROD Stewart, not DAVE Stewart. Capiche.

HejiraNYC 01-06-2011 07:51 PM

Remember kiddies, she did this 5 years ago with Don Henley. And just a few years ago with Chris Isaak. But now it seems pretty obvious to me who will be the opening act. :distress: And since Rod must get a s**t ton nightly guarantee, there's no question that front section tickets are going to be $150-200 for this.

As much as I hate to admit it, this is probably good for promoting Stevie's album. Rod sells more albums than Stevie in addition to drawing a bigger audience. It's good to get her new songs across to a new audience that would not necessarily would have considered seeing or buying her music. I just think it would have been much cooler if she hooked herself up with a younger act like Maroon 5 or Train. No, I'm not particularly fond of those bands either, but at least their audiences are younger and not as set in their ways.

I agree, Maroon 5 with Stevie would be cool. They were with the Stones, when Mom seen them. On nicksfix.com, stevie actually says she likes Maroon 5! I would totally be excited to see that. Rod Stewart just doesn't do it for me. He's like...blah. What does he sing?

Christopher 01-06-2011 07:57 PM

Also does anyone remember Dave S. tweets on Dec.31st?
He tweeted:
"2011 I will be dropping a Music Bombshell on The Industry !!!!!! can't wait" and clarified minutes later saying "a bombshell in music collaboration and a bombshell to the industry as it stands"

Could Dave have been alluding that this music collaboration was with someone other than himself that Stevie had never dueted with before - someone like Rod Stewart -which has been hidden under wraps til'possibly now. I just assumed he was talking up his collaboration with Stevie once again. Maybe she re-recorded "Cheaper Than Free" with Rod, I can see them rasping out that duet together with more positive results than with Dave.

Tow Dizzy Blonds Tour 2011

mikebise 01-06-2011 08:16 PM

Wow, it sounded interesting to me. It's not like Stevie's just gonna do a 30-minute concert. Vanessa, Chris, ALL the others bored me. At least I knew some Don songs.

Whoever is on the bill with Stevie has NEVER kept me from one of HER concerts. Billy Falcon? Opus? (NOT Opus III, take note). I'm going to see STEVIE NICKS!!!! Yay!!!!!!

But she's going to be the opening spot, which means she gets an hour at the most. An hour in a Stevie Nicks set is basically "Rhiannon," "Gold Dust Woman," "Edge of Seventeen," "Stand Back" and three new songs. Me no likey.

God, I hope Rod is nowhere near Stevie's new album. I really think I'd have to go on a murderous rampage if that were to happen! This whole development is just so gross and disheartening :(

I'd rather hear Stevie singing "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy?"...

BombaySapphire3 01-06-2011 08:42 PM

I t's difficult for me to digest that she actually acquiesed to being the opening act.Even though Rod sells more tickets I think it will be more of a double bill type pairing. If she does perform a truncated set I will likely be sitting it out again since I have no real interest in seeing Rod unless he did a stripped down set of his and the Faces music from the late sixties to the early seventies when he was actually great.

Exactly. This makes me f*cking angry to be quite honest. I could've dealt with her touring with Dave because of all the interesting interaction they've had over the past few months and his influence on the record... but I literally CANNOT STAND Rod. adlkfjhalkhaejk this BETTER not be accurate.

daniellaaarisen 01-06-2011 08:48 PM

Seriously, I want to vomit. This CANNOT be true. I was planning on following the tour around for 10+ dates but there is no way I will be paying much more money to see Stevie sing a dramatically shorter set. **** this.

Why is obvious that Stevie will be the opening act? Muscians and other artists still talk about her. I haven't heard Rod's name mentioned in 10 years, and he makes his living by singing old standards. Yeah, he's sold more albums but not of new material. The man looks like a piece of old leather and he resigned himself to singing old songs.

I'm not paying to see Stevie as an opening act. So I guess, I'm not going. And I don't think, she needs Rod Stewart to sale albums. Infact, teaming up with him makes her seem older. I can't see Stevie being an opening act for anyone. She is not that way.

CADreaming 01-06-2011 08:50 PM

Maybe it's a joke and Ellen will introduce Rod on her show and Dave will actually come out to announce he's her tour mate...

sorcerer999 01-06-2011 08:51 PM

I'm gonna go out on a limb and "speculate" that maybe Stevie's friends of friends or Mike's friend got confused because of the last name "Stewart". Maybe Stevie is indeed still touring with Dave and is only appearing with Rod on "Ellen" . I dunno. I could be wrong.

...but I hope I'm right. ;)

mylittledemon 01-06-2011 08:54 PM

If I was still Stateside I'd have to pass on this tour. The thought of Rod Stewart (who is okay, I guess) and Stevie on tour? I'm just not even interested in the slightest.

If this tour was to happen, I'd see one show. And only because she's f@#$ing 62 and we have no idea when she'll stop touring. I was saving to follow the tour around the entire West coast and hit up certain East coast shows.... NOT happening if Rod has anything to do with this.

God, I hope you're right. We have long known it was Dave who was supposed to be touring with Stevie because they are releasing their albums together. Let's just hope this is one monumental mixup!

I completely agree. It's possible, but its' pretty shady considering the two have the same last name...

i hope so too...that was first thought. Maybe they meant Dave Stewart. Maybe Ellen and Mikes friend both just remember the Stewart part and just automatically thought 'Rod'.
When Stevie toured with Don that was totally acceptable.,,but she has no prior relations with Rod fricking Stewart. Besides that pic that was posted from a random night at Studio 54 or something...and his cover of SB
But if that is the case and she is touring with Rod Stewart...I dont see Stevie opening up for Rod, if anything...it will be a co-headline, like with Henley.
Im just grateful to have a new album and a summer tour at this point. I dont care who shes touring with as long as shes touring.

GypsySorcerer 01-06-2011 09:03 PM

Oh, good God no. Rod Stewart? Yuck! :distress:

I pray to the concert gods this is false.

mikebise 01-06-2011 09:04 PM

Seeing the responses here, I sure hope my friend is wrong! Yikes!

"Rod" and "Dave"... both being Stewarts. I'll have to write him back (thanking him for the autographed Tusk and other things), and see if maybe he got those two mixed up.

The only one who can clear up this whole conundrum is Mr. Stewart himself...Dave that is.
