Cokey vs. Pokey

Do you agree or disagree that cokey is better than pokey?

Silver Springs 01-02-2011 05:50 PM

I voted for Cokey because over the pond we call it the "Hokey Cokey" and that's the way I likes it. Pokeys are lies. They're foreign so wrong wrong wrong *ish being glib and tongue in cheek if it weren't obvious*

SapphireSister 01-02-2011 05:55 PM

I voted for cokey because I like Stevie better that way than pokey .

MissLadyLoki 01-02-2011 06:01 PM

I know what cokey is, but what's pokey?

cristochango 01-02-2011 07:20 PM

My evidence for the fact that cokey is far superior to pokey is as followed:

(5:15 - the end)

I would sometime to find a video of Pokey Stevie that is better than this. :D
Do it. I dare you :P

michelej1 01-02-2011 07:47 PM

Well, you confuse me with the adverb "vastly." But pokey is better. I am not going to throw in superlatives that quantify how much better.

...and here I'd always assumed 'pokey' was innuendo  :o

Only my favorite performance of all time (well of Stevie anyway). And don't challenge me to find a better Pokey video because you know I will .

And you guys know that in that jumbled ramble she's saying "bad da da da do the lambada" over and over right?

Would that be sad or funny if she toppled over after that turn at 6:50?

actually what she is trying to say is... "I don't change and you don't change it's all the same" (according to other performances of this song from this tour):D

edit ...btw i didnt vote. i like both cokey and pokey.

jellyman10 01-03-2011 02:34 AM

Best thing is pokey whilst cokey, surely?

Aussie W/Heart 01-03-2011 06:13 AM

As for concert performances, Cokey certainly is best. Still, since I'm sure we all wanted Stevie to live past 40 years old, Cokey had to go.

For real. Could you even imagine Stevie up on stage now all cokeyed out? I also doubt she would have made it past 40...well maybe about 50. Hell, I donno. I do wish she'd pep up a bit. I do wish she'd stop waddling like a pregnant lady. I do wonder if she wears SPANX. Durt durt durt.

Yeah, I don't even think Cokey was best, all health concerns aside. A Rhiannon exorcism and the SOTM tongue-speaking is something people get excited about, but then you have all the shows that were more embarassing than exciting. I have no yearning for that. I cringe.

I'm no Pollyanna. I try not to be openly grateful, warm and happy about anything and I'd just as soon the soldiers banded together and stoned Stevie with their ipods than discuss how gracious and wonderful she is. I'm not given to being thankful. Yet, you go on the computer the day after Christmas and see Teena Marie's name trending on twitter . . . it's not a fun feeling. I'm glad we escaped that and I just can't separate the soaring sound and concert spontaneity from the dire risks, even for the sake of a fun poll.

Cokey for sure.

Better to burn out than to fat away...

You put your left leg in
You put your right leg out
You put your left leg out
And you shake it all about
You do the Cokey Pokey and you turn yourself around
That's what it's all about

bluefox4000 01-03-2011 09:04 PM

I guess Cokey. Although in the long run it's killed her voice. I HATE with a passion..the nose singing.

So cool that Stevie never even said Lindsey's name. She was like, "need I say more" and just referred to him as "he." And apparently, the crowd needed no further introduction.

I had no idea this happened!!! Wow, kinda changes my knowledge of the Mac! I wonder how the hell that went down, anyway? And how do you delicately tell Rick and Billy you're not wanted on stage at this moment, your predecessor wants to perform?

He was there for both the Oakland show and the Los Angeles show afterwards (the last show on the tour).

He came back at the end and performed with Rick and Billy and the whole gang. So, it's not like they were booted. They were there when he did GYOW.

Mick introduced him and let him come on stage when the band was taking their final bows. But that great moment was kind of spoiled because they had to ask for donations for Greenpeace and that was kind of anticlimatic, especially since Stevie was rambling when she talked about it and you were just thinking, "ok, end the show already!" So, I couldn't get too excited about seeing Lindsey up there with the others . . . although I was a bit excited, because Christine was kissing and caressing him and I always like that:p.

My guess is that they probably got in touch with Lindsey to offer condolentces when his brother died shortly before those 2 concert dates. And all of them being in such a gentle mood, it was easy for him to show up at the final concerts and for them/him to be open to him joining in on a few numbers.

Cokey for sure had some awesome performances and sure as hell beat the Klonopin days, but Mama can still rock it nowadays too!

How interesting! I never knew this chapter of Mac history! I guess the stage was beginning to be set for the whole Rumours era reunion far before even the Clinton Inauguration. Just when I think I know the historical progression of the Mac, I have more wrenches thrown at me it seems! :) Thanks for sharing your experience, Michele!! :wavey:

I wish I had more experience!

I was only at the second (last) Los Angeles show. I missed Cow Palace.

I would doubt that that started the reunion, because Lindsey said that Stevie was really zoned out and I don't think anyone had the idea that the band could reunite after those two cameos. More awkwardness than chemistry. I think the Clinton inauguration was the real trigger.

Definitely a landmark in FM history but Stevie sounds SO sedated I can't even enjoy the moment. I remember listening to the Houston '89 show about ten years ago with a friend and he asked "what is wrong with her? why does she sound so...SLEEPY???" I now always think of Klonopin zonked Stevie as 'sleepy Stevie'.

If that performance left you with grogginess, take a listen to one of my personal favorite performances of Landslide from the Mirage Tour...same city. I'll take a Mirage Tour Landslide performance over the album version, the Dance version, and any other version you can throw at me. Stevie's voice had a frailty to it around 82-83 that just fits the song best IMHO.

Damn. Stevie's "Assets" are giving Dolly Parton a run for her money here eh?

There was practically nothing to miss. It was equally awkward--made me wince.

I don't think even that was the trigger. Did you see Lindsey at the press conference before the inauguration? This is not a guy who wants to be there.

If there was any "trigger" from the inauguration, it was in Mick's mind only, I would say. And I bet he was more interested in getting Stevie Nicks back in the band.

In Los Angeles (for BTM), Stevie was playing with kids during GYOW and distracting the audience, which I'm sure made Lindsey want to kill her all over again -- if he'd forgotten what that urge felt like.

Stevie herself has said that she didn't think they'd be getting back together after the Clinton inauguration either.

Cokey and Pokey both have their moments.

In this case, the interviewer is rather cokey.
