Favorite Fleetwood Mac Song of All Time: The Finals

After 5 months, a billion discussion threads, more polls and discussions, we have finally arrived at the very last battle. Here are the songs up for Favorite Fleetwood Mac Song of All Time. :D

Rhiannon
The Chain
Gypsy

The winning song will be declared "Favorite Fleetwood Mac Song of All Time".

Holidayroad will be the tiebreaker.

The battle ends in 4 days on New Years Eve night.

nailatixela 12-28-2010 12:17 AM

One day I'd like to do one of these polls, but without the hits. Thanks for sticking with this contest, it was quite a long one! Can't believe it's been 5 months. I'll have to go with Gypsy, though.

Don't think I could ever definitively choose my favorite FM song of all time (hard enough picking a favorite within each era of the band), but I actually had no trouble choosing in this poll. Three fantastic songs, but The Chain has never lost its magic for me. Maybe it's got something to do with the unique way it developed as a song, it being credited to all the members of the Rumours line-up and all.

Anyway, these polls have been interesting and rather fun. Lotsa great discussions that I enjoyed reading. Anyone thinking of something similar for some of the various band members' solo output?

This has been a great, fun poll to do and I really did enjoy voting and watching the songs.

As for now, grrrrrrr! I like these 3 songs so much, but in the end, The Chain has the edge. It is the Mac's theme song, but it also embodies everything that is awesome about their music, not to mention it's just a kickass song.

jcalzaretta 12-28-2010 09:04 AM

3 way tie so far. All great songs. And all lyrics written by Stevie Nicks.

Now The Chain is in the lead with 10, Rhiannon has 6, and Gypsy has 5

EDIT: Better yet, The Chain now has 11

bluefox4000 12-28-2010 10:21 AM

Not my fav song...nowhere near. but I chose The Chain.

Went with Rhiannon, although I seriously contemplated Gypsy for a while. All three are fab songs though.

KarmaContestant 12-28-2010 04:28 PM

If I were alone, I'd pick Gypsy.

If I were hanging with my Stevie-friends, we'd listen to Rhiannon.

But since we're in public, I have to go with The Chain - such a great song with something in it for everyone.

louielouie2000 12-28-2010 04:48 PM

The Chain is Fleetwood Mac's consummate song. All members are showcased (even and especially John McVie!!), the song is sonic perfection, it utterly defines everything the band has ever been about, and there's just something for everyone there. I can't point to anything in the entire song which I think is less than perfect. Even though it's a cliche amongst Mac tunes, to me, the song represents the best of the best.

BaronVonBielski 12-28-2010 05:25 PM

The Chain! I can't believe the other two even made the finals. Not that their bad, but I can name a few others that should be there. Go Your Own Way should have made it for sure.

...And Jilly swoops in a gives a big fat vote to the cat in the dark-Goddess, Rhiannon.

MacShadowsBall 12-28-2010 06:21 PM

Go Your Own Way placed 5th with 15 nominations for Favorite Rumours era song. Sara was 4th with 16 nominations. So Go Your Own Way barely missed it! I'm surprised about Gold Dust Woman loosing so early.

Holidayroad has been named tiebreaker for the finals.

mylittledemon 12-28-2010 07:13 PM

Gotta be The Chain.

Gypsy & Rhiannon, for me, are a tie.

^^ Yes! What she said!

The chain all the way baby! It still gives me goose bumps almost every time I hear it. Now that's good stuff.

Interesting point.
Though I think we shouldn't take these polls too serious. I mean, it's a measure of the current temperature. Right now I voted for The Chain. Maybe in 2012 I wish You make loving fun be one of the 3 finalist. And in 1997 I'd die for Silver Springs.

I participate in these polls just for fun. And to see what my ledgie fellows are thinking right now. But that's it.

But yes, a non-hits poll should be interesting.

Go Your Own Way, was N.119 in Rolling Stone 500 Greatest Songs of All Time
list, the only Fleetwood Mac song as I remember. Not that I'm saying that list is unquestionable (actually I disagree with lot of songs and positions), but yes I agree with you GYOW is an extraordinary song. To me at least.

MacShadowsBall 12-30-2010 09:05 PM

Well "The Chain" is in the lead with 25 votes. Rhiannon has 18 while Gypsy has 11 votes.

Still got time to vote everybody! :wavey:

Silver Springs 12-30-2010 09:15 PM

The results aren't altogether a surprise for me. The Chain has always been one of the definitive songs. Heck, you can't go a day without hearing John's bass riff here (it's the theme for Formula 1 Racing amongst other things).

By the way, yay for your satanistic post count! :p

Huh, I totally did not know this, kind of cool to know! I'm glad The Chain is winning, even though I voted for Rhiannon. The Chain is sort of like the Fleetwood Mac song that I can never get out of my head, & it's so fun to sing along to. I for some reason enjoy singing to that one more than any other one, other than Everywhere perhaps.

Do you make youself look silly too by getting it stuck in your head to the point where you have to mimic John's riff? "Dang! Da da dang da da da da da Dang". I do :p That and "Bow bow blah blah bow" from Second Hand News (obviously I'm paraphrasing lol) always get me in trouble :p

SuperFleetwood 12-31-2010 09:36 AM

the chain is sucha good song!! the st. louis one rocks, the dance version I didn't like!

HAHAHA
THIS.
Everytime.
I always 'sing' John's riff like a loser. & yes, you hit the nail on the head again with the "Bow Bow Bow" part of Second Hand News. Sometimes I just walk around my house singing that part & Mom just looks at me

MissLadyLoki 12-31-2010 07:39 PM

Thought I'd give it a bump. The song about an old Welsh witch is really starting to catch up

MacShadowsBall 12-31-2010 08:35 PM

The Chain is in the lead, but Rhiannon and Gypsy are putting up a good fight also.

Check out "The Countdown Begins" thread were I count down the top 100 FM songs.

MacShadowsBall 01-01-2011 12:02 AM

The battle ends in 16 minutes!!!

MacShadowsBall 01-01-2011 12:27 AM

Really not a surprise result is it....not to me;) I'm glad it won.

There is no way Gypsy should have been part of this vote.
I really like the song but you guys have got to be kidding me.
I call for a recount! Where's Jimmy Carter when you need him?

It is a bit surprising. Great song, great production, but no way is it a top three FM song of all time. Just my opinion though.
