Favorite album cover art
This was done on Stevie board, I made my own for Rumours era, and now I decided that Bucky needed lovin', and who else could provide that than the nerd who can talk all day about how Metallica's album cover art matches the music inside so well?
Anyways, you know the drill. Pick your fave album cover art, yadda yadda yadda. |
hmmm. i don't really like the cover art on his albums that much. in general, i think i prefer b&w or sparsely colored covers, but i really dislike photos used for LnO and GoS. if it was nicer photo, it would be GoS b/c of the color scheme.
so, i'll go with UTS - at least it's a nice pic of him... |
Although it's not my favourite album, I like the earthy quality to the Under The Skin cover, it's almost a more real cover to himself as a person than the others.
|
I'll admit it, I absolutely hate the cover art on his albums. They're all ugly IMO. However, I voted for Go Insane, on account of the fact that I think the trippy cover fits the trippy music inside very well

Poor Lindsey isn't fairing well on the album covers front at all, is he lol? I really don't understand the animosity because they're not half bad to me. I must admit that the three year old in me gets a kick out of the fold out effect of Out of The Cradle :p It's like a little present every time you open the case hehe.

Is it that second on the middle with the sides too? |
I don't really like any of them that much, but Under the Skin I had to pick because I like the expression on his face and he looks older on this cover than the previous ones obviously, because he is, & I have always liked him looking a bit more mature and I like older men.

I think UTS and OOTC are nice. I like the L & O cover, but it doesn't remind me of Lindsey and is the kind of generic hunk thing that really seems very foreign to him. To me, Go Insane is exactly like him. Weird, quirky, crazy, wild, layered, mesmerizing. I love everything it says.
I love it when I see his personality in a pose, in a stare or a snarl or the gnarl of his hair. Of course, GOS is him too, but I think you could capture the mood with a picture that better reflects the way he looked back then. Michele |
I went with Go Insane, nothing really great about it... but it's the most inventive of the bunch. UTS was second closely followed by OOTC... Law and Order and GOS are awful.
|
I voted for L&O. It wasn't til I got the actual record, and not just the CD, that I was able to see how beautiful of a photo that cover really is.

GOS would probably have got my vote as I love Bucky best right now, but there's something not right about that shot. |
Love the B&W shot of LAW& ORDER ~ VERY "old school" Hollywood! ~ but, on a whole, L.B.'s album covers (and the art direction on a whole!) have been less than stellar/inspiring!
IMO, only GO INSANE showed any real creativity! |
I think he is so sexy on the cover of Under The Skin. It's a great album. But, how can he say that his songs are not about Stevie anymore, this album screams unresolved issues concerning how it was or could have been if they had stayed together and never joined the Mac. ex: Trying for the Sun.
|
I'm not a big fan of any of LB's album covers.
|
poor GoS:distress: but, that is one ugly pic of Lindsey...
|
^^
I know. He goes from a middle-aged man in Under the Skin - to a grinch like wrinkle bag in GOS. |
I like Go Insane... something about it is very Edward Scissorhands/Tim Burton esque to me. Definitely fits the theme of this deliciously quirky album.

That really is a terrible cover. |

I swear, on that cover, he looked like a serial killer |
Much as I love him.....Lindsey was never one for albums covers. If pressed i'd say........UTS.

I don't really much care for his LP covers /cd covers either. I think a little bit more creativity would've been nice. I like how he looks for OOTC the best. Thats just what I think. Theres really not much there. There kinda boring really. I think really his look during Mirage was the best. I've not ever liked his big, high hair style since Tango. Ugh. Thats just my feelings. No offence anyone.

Here's a piece I did on Lindsey's album covers (specifically Gift of Screws).
http://heroesarehardtofind.blogspot....gift-wrap.html In general, I actually think that Fleetwood Mac isn't really very good at album covers: stevie, lindsey, as a group. I mean, they're not like New Order, Roxy Music, The Smiths, Talking Heads, Scritti Politti--all of whom made album covers that were works of art in their own right. Mac covers aren't bad or aren't meaningless (as I hope my essay attests) but it's not really what they do. |

I chose UTS just a hair ahead of Go Insane ... GOS is just such a disaster ... what the hell was he thinking? :distress:

Buckingham's creativity does not extend to his album covers, which range from above average to abysmal. Gift of Screws and Buckingham/McVie are the worst, with his 2021 self-titled not being that far behind. Go Insane is the only album cover with some level of artsiness, so I went with that.

1. Go Insane
2. Under The Skin 3. Out of the Cradle Btw- the original Gift of Screws…the weird landscape and car imagery…would that have been an album cover? What’s the story with that picture? |
