New stevie and dave duet
|
|
I just really detest what I've heard of that song. Adult Contemporary trash. And I personally don't think Dave and Stevie's voices blend AT ALL. I just hope this isn't a taste of what's to come with Stevie's new album... but with the addition of Annabel Lee, I'm guessing it is :distress:.

The song has potential. I look forward to it's final form. |
I'm lukewarm at best after the first listen.

Rough, not yet mixed or polished tracks are very hard to make a good judgement on. I also highly doubt Stevie will release an album of these types of tracks, and compare it to Bella Donna. |
Wow, you people are mean.
I liked it. I think it has a nice alternative feel. I've always been a huge Eurythmics fan and Dave did some amazing things with Annie's voice. And I happen to like Annabell Lee a lot so I guess I'm in the minority here. Can I ask you guys a question though. Here we are on a Stevie forum, and yes we are all encouraged to share our thoughts and feelings, both negative and positive, but how would you feel if Stevie read this board? Aside from the joking around, which I myself have been known to do, comments like saying her new album is gonna suck and the sample of this song is so terrible are really hurtful. I've noticed this on all kinds of message boards. I work for a video production company and when I've spent months working on a project and then I see comments on blogs where people cut it to shreds, often just from looking at a promo and not even the whole video, it really hurts my feelings. Sure, I take it with a grain of salt but it is still hurtful. And I'm shocked that people could be that mean to attack something someone else has put a lot of hard work into with such hate and venom. |

I fail to actually spot "venom" in anybody's posts, merely opinions which we are all entitled to. Firstly, Stevie would never read this board because she and technology rarely meet. Secondly, would you suggest that from now on we all conduct ourselves with tight lips and hindered comments? Would you rather we speak falsely? Because that can be just as unconstructive as any compunctious insult. I'm surprised that on a forum designed to allow discussion and expression of opinions, you would advocate such censorship. |
Crap.......

According to Dave's interview in Music and Musicians Magazine, Dave and Stevie recorded the "Everybody Loves You" demo separately. I believe he recorded it first and then he sent it to her and she sent it back to him with her vocals added to it, so that's why it sounds so...bizarre.

I've seen this happen quite a lot in just the year I've been a member here. It is a discussion forum for a reason, I don't understand why people get so over sensitive over fellow fans discussing. What is the difference between this, and saying that Oh Diane is an abomination? Or Silver Girl for that matter? I'm not a Eurythmics fan, nor a Dave Stewart fan, I'm sorry that I don't like this demo thus far and have therefore crushed your spirit with my venom. |

I don't think it has an alternative feel at all. If it had I would have liked it. The music sounds flat and uninspired, the melody has potential but is sung so uninspired by the male voice that it just sucks every form of life out of it. Maybe the whole track will be better but I doubt this approach is changed in the rest of the track.

I really dislike it. Why sing a duet if you're not going to harmonize? Stevie's voice usually does blend beautifully with other singers. This is not something I would listen to. All that being said, I love Stevie and support her by buying her music and having her back when non-fans bash her.

It sucks. And that's the same thing I said the first time I heard it (insert thumbs down here). No good reason, it just does.
Do I care if Stevie reads this board and sees that? Hell to the no. I've defended that woman till doomsday and complimented her so much her head would blow up. I'm not going to automatically like something just because Stevie's singing on it and/or wrote it. If I don't like something I simply don't like it. In general I like what Stevie does but I gotta call a spade a spade in this case from what I've heard this song blows. I'm also going to say what I've said before - if this is an indication of the entire album I'll be very dissapointed but I'm totally not going to jump to conclusions and judge it until I hear the album in it's entire and complete form. Also from the tidbits I've heard so far, if I could have it my way she would not have worked with Dave Stewart. That being said I am very grateful that she's putting out new material and that someone implored her to do so and I'd rather have this than nothing but thus far I'm not feeling the music, the little tiny bit I've heard anyway. I'm also in rare form tonight and may not feel this way tomorrow. |
what have i done!

or maybe david, it was a first outtake you know that you could call it a outtake too!, so it really isn't different its just a first outtake. and maybe they mixed this outtake in with the final song!!

The track sample and their voices together very much sound like Ringo Starr and Stevie doing Nilsson's "Lay Down Your Arms".
It's uncanny. |
I have an idea! Why don't we all just forget about the demo snippit, as well as the what ifs, the how comes, the maybes, and just wait for the freakin' album to come out before we all pass judgement on a song for which we've only heard 30 seconds of, in demo form? Sound like a plan?

For what it's worth, I think you can make a judgement on a song by it's demo (usually... there are exceptions). Just look at the demo for Space Needle, for instance. It's chilling, haunting, and utterly emotive. It's stunning in demo form... I can't imagine how great a studio production of that song might have been. Not Make Believe and Thrown Down were excellent demos, and definitely made strong finished tracks, too. I've been spending a lot of time lately thinking back to the time leading up to Trouble In Shangri La lately. We had snippets leaked to us back then as well. But we absolutely knew by them, no question, that we were in for a treat with that album. The clips we've heard of Everybody Loves You and Cheaper Than Free just don't give me chills the way the TISL clips did. They don't excite me. They don't sound ethereal... they're very literal. I just want everyone to know I'm not picking on Stevie simply to take cheap shots at her. I'm just worried that she's not on the right track. She's giving up writing her own songs in favor of co-writing with someone else. That really concerns me... makes me think back to Street Angel. I adore Stevie and her music. I feel hugely invested in her after following her for decades. I just want her to be at her personal best, because I still feel she's capable of incredible music. |
