Ah, HA! See? It was a ruse, THIS time they're taking STEVIE's solo album and making it into a Fleetwood Mac album! :D

Hmm... I hope his album doesn't get appropriated again. Could it happen for a third time?

I seriously doubt this is turning into a Fleetwood Mac album. Stevie and Lindsey have always worked with on songs for each other's solo albums (I Miss You, I am Waiting, Twist of Fate).
|
I'm pretty sure Stevie isn't on Twist of Fate/RPTF. All I hear are vari-speed Lindsey's.

I really wouldn't use the term "always"...when in reality, TISL was the first appearance of Lindsey Buckingham on a Stevie Nicks solo album. She wasn't on any of his other albums, nor was he on any of her albums prior to 2001. (with the exception of the one track "Twisted" on the Twister soundtrack) "I Am Waiting" (among other tracks originally from the mid 90's GOS sessions) ended up on a Lindsey solo album, but it was originally slated to be on Say You Will when it was going to be a 2 CD set, but got dropped when it was finally decided that it would only be a single CD set. So, Stevie's participation on the song was really under the auspices of it/them being a "Fleetwood Mac" track. |
Dave Stewart: recording Lindsey and Stevie right now sounds great still like a young fresh Buckingham Nicks

So Lindsey and Stevie are recording something together with Dave. Is it likely we'll get a duet on her album or are we thinking it's going to be mostly harmony work like on all of SYW? |

Anyway, here's what [i]I[i/] think: Likely a duet or harmonies for a track on Stevie's album (which, if true, means I switch my vote on the "which album to listen to first?" challenge). BUT I have an additional thought: Stevie wants Dave to produce the next Mac album. This one-off track for her solo album is the opportunity to see how Dave and Lindsey work together. That misspell is a bad sign. But here's the thing: Dave has the ability to make the right atmosphere for creativity from folks who suffer from various difficulties in dealing with stress. This could be a good thing (as long as he's there mostly to keep the peace while Lindsey really produces). Final note: ZOMG I wonder if they are singing MY song!??! :wavey: |
I think this is AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@DaveStewart
Just finished , Lindsey played great guitar and sang really cool harmonies on a very special song :) 4 minutes ago |
It has been almost 10 months since Dave started tweeting to us about new Stevie work. We've read interviews, seen her play live a little, and embraced her excitement. I don't know how much longer I can wait.
On the other hand, this whole silencing of Mr. Buckingham's album was quite the surprise. I sort of figured he was working on new music, but wasn't sure. I'm so glad he has something in the works as well. I think 2011 is gunna kick ass. |
This is so exciting!

I hate Dave Stewart's recent work. Have you heard the clips of his new soloalbum, with that aweful Stevie Baby song? Yeck. I'm not very happy with this collaboration.
I'm happy with the fact that they record seperately. But please don't weld this into a slick Mac-album... |

If he's going for the choice to use an external producer as a supervisor, he will commit to that choice, I'm sure. And in this case, I'm not very pleased with the producerchoice.... |

Dave sure is a busy guy at the moment. Aside from working with Stevie, he also scored the upcoming West End musical Ghost and they've doing a lot of promo work for that these past few weeks and I'd imagine he'll be needed at rehearsals. I would think he must be almost done with Stevie with that coming up.

So I'd probably look at all this more positively - if something good can come out of their collaboration and they are having fun working together, that's great! If they don't mesh well and nothing (or something forgettable) comes out of it, but they still have fun:woohoo:, good for them. (as long as Lindsey still tours separately...) |

At the end of the day, Dave's greatest asset is his versatility and his ability to make the impossible possible, e.g., this latest Buckingham Nicks reunion. He has the gift of gab. He is not exactly a looker, but he could probably charm the pants off of every straight woman in a ten-meter radius. Dave is The Man. This is exactly what FM needs- someone who can smooth the bumps and schmooze everyone into thinking that things are going their way even when they are not. Ultimately Lindsey will be Lindsey and Stevie will be Stevie. But I think Dave has the social and musical skills and the work ethic to make it work. He is a fan. He is a peer too. I don't think he would let us down. |

totally agreed with above post. Except that imo the outcome will be musically unattractive. Dave slicks. Those samples from his solo-album are totally aweful. And slickness usually makes forgettable music.
Fleetwood Mac needs a producer that sets things sharp. Like Rick Rubin. Or Jack White, or Mitchell Froom maybe. |

Again, I don't think you can just listen to snippets of his new album and declare that everything he will ever do will be in that vein. He's impossible to pigeonhole. Once he inhabits the persona of the project, he goes for it 110%. This time he just happened to take the guise of a Nashville country artist. Just for the hell of it. It doesn't change the fact that he produced terrific soul tracks with the likes of Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder. Or the fact that he wrote/produced one of the biggest hits for Tom Petty. As a producer I don't think he is in the business of putting his personal stamp on everything. As a recording artist himself, he is sympathetic to the artist he is working with and will try to push yet respect boundaries. I don't think he is going to take an FM album and make it sound like the Eurythmics. Besides, Lindsey already did that with Tango! Yes, I went there. |

Personality-wise, no he's not going to hang out in pubs, but I think Lindsey has been the life of parties and that people naturally gravitate towards him. He's intense, but has also been described as friendly and caring and seems to be quite a goofball at times. He takes the dominant role in his longstanding relationships, but also seems more than a little malleable when approached correctly. I'd be happy to see what he and Dave could accomplish on a project, but I'd be thrilled to have him work with Annie Lennox too, for that matter. Ever since Lindsey was on that radio show and Dave left a question for him, I've wondered if these two had been in contact. We knew Stevie and Dave had been in touch for "Platinum Weird," so I wondered about Dave and Lindsey. I wouldn't be surprised if they hadn't been tossing around the thought of a project together for years now, since Lindsey knew that Stevie wanted a third party to work with them. I think it's unlikely we'll get anything new from FM or Stevie and Lindsey (together) without help from an outside spark. I'm thankful to see Dave's introduction into our turbulent, stagnant mix. I hope it turns into something and, for some of the compatible background reasons you described above, this might work out for all of the reasons that a Sheryl Crow collaboration never could.
