The Dance rehearsal + interview vids...!
Never seen this stuff before!
Interview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gen7CjXbFuI You Make Loving Fun rehearsal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KK37WT_B4tQ |
Beautiful to look at all 5 of them like that.
This sounds like interview parts that didn't get on the Best Buy CD. They are a weird bunch of people. They are so uncomfortable looking. Stevie sitting on that box is so strange. I guess it's because her top and bottom are both black that it's hard for me to see her legs. It looks like she is just a talking torso! She looks like a dwarf or something. Michele |
Christine said, "we don't smoke."
Those people sound good in rehearsal. Wonder why they never caught on. Michele |

The most natural part was when Chris laughed at Mick and said "shut up." That seemed warm. Michele |
The rehearsal was quite strong.
I really enjoyed hearing all three of their voices on the chorus of GYOW. |

Chris' voice sounded great on lead. Linds was wearing a maternity top. Stevie was like "no" she wouldn't be performing any solo songs. I hope Lindsey didn't threaten her life or anything! Stand Back had to stand back a bit until the tour really kicked off. Michele |
First two parts are pretty neat fly on the wall, b-roll footage an more interviews.
Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yo_8NRQ9VQ Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGBji-8-3jo Thanks for posting these!:blob2: EDIT: Hahaha.. check out @4:17 in the second part. Sooo adorable. :D |
Ahaha. John McVie doesn't like Labour. My respect for him has just like, tripled.
These are really interesting to watch, thanks for posting them! |
It's so interesting to see these clips and compare them to the Dance concert. I don't know what it was about the cameras they used for the Dance, but they made Lindsey and especially Stevie look overweight. When you look at them in these interviews, they look just fabulous. Christine almost looks too thin. It's just interesting to see how much younger they all look, too. I still remember this time period like it was yesterday. Hard to believe nearly a decade and a half has passed.
Just seeing these vids makes me miss Chris terribly :distress:. Everyone looks so much happier and more centered with her there, too. Just makes you wonder what could have been? :( |
This is the article that accompinied these videos
In 1997, Fleetwood Mac Danced Again
By jeffreychrist It would have been easy, even in 1997, to discount Fleetwood Mac’s Phoenix-from-the-flame resurrection. Yes, it had been, at that point, almost 7 years since their last quasi-hit album, the Top 20 Buckingham-less BEHIND THE MASK, and a full decade since their last Top 10 (1987s TANGO IN THE NIGHT). Their last #1, MIRAGE, was in 1982. But the Mac’s legend supersedes such frivolities. One should never underestimate the power of hundreds of millions of sold albums, or a Rock n Roll soap opera nonpareil. Fleetwood Mac might have been dinosaurs by the late 1990s, but they were far from extinct. Of course, with all the turmoil that imploded the band, it was a pipe dream for any ardent Mac fan to ever hope that the classic line-up – obviously it’s most artistic, and not the mention, lucrative – would ever reform. McVie retired in her English castle, Buckingham was busy with his own career, and Nicks had her own solo career with varying degrees of success, half of which was riddled with drug addiction and recovery. This line-up’s last public performance was at the request of the White House. Throughout his campaign for president, Bill Clinton used “Don’t Stop” as his official theme song, and President-elect Clinton requested the Mac perform it at his 1993 inauguration. But reuniting wasn’t even on their radar. But, reunite they did, and the result was a wonderful live album called THE DANCE. The Grammy-nominated CD hit #1 and a refreshed, healthy, sober and exhilarating Fleetwood Mac embarked upon a comeback for the ages, mounting a monumentally successful tour and reigniting the world’s passion for the classic assemblage. In the following clips, Stevie Nicks, Lindsay Buckingham, Christine McVie, John McVie and Mick Fleetwood are interviewed in North Hollywood, California, during their rehearsals that begot the CD and live TV concert. The interview took place on April 18 1997. Enjoy these rare, behind the scenes interviews and performances from Fleetwood Mac! http://mynewboyfriend.com/2010/11/18...-danced-again/ |

Stevie looks like she's wearing a nightgown (I know I know, she always does) but this one came out of the back of the closet, the one you wear when all the laundry is dirty. I think they are the most precious group of people I've ever seen! I miss Chris now more than ever! Somewhere in the back of my mind I have this feeling she will reunite with them...at least once during the next tour. A girl can dream! Kena |
Neat interview! Stevie looks so little, like only half of her is floating on that box

Lindsey is so crazy. The steakhouse circuit is a one way trip to Palookaville, which kind of reminds me of what Hejira was saying in another thread. John said he wouldn't perform for the Labour Party:lol:. I have to say that their were rumors about Christine's health in the last 10 years and it's hard for me not to think about things when I see her hair in these clips. But whatever was or was not . . . at least she looked great when she was promoting Meantime and it's funny to me how even her speaking voice has a musical quality. Most people when they speak talk in a monotone, but she actually TALKS at different voice levels. She's very melodic to listen to, even when all she is saying is that it's hot in the room. I could look at these people all day long, because they have like antennae or speak on a different frequency, so they are saying things to each other, when it's not obvious. I mean even that fan thing said so much about their personalities. Lindsey's like he doesn't care if they turn it off or not, because it wouldn't do HIM any good and John and Mick are telling Christine that maybe if she hadn't said anything, no one would have noticed anyway and then Stevie's talking about the camera angle and Lindsey's all in her ear asking if she really wants to mess with it. Does she really want to check it out. He's like joking with her and deliberately bothering her at the same time -- which is the same thing he likes to do with John. But he doesn't like to smell John's hair as much as he does Stevie's! Michele |

Loved the way he leaned over and whispered to Stevie, "we're still not talking" and her smile was like they had soe inside joke. Christine did not look amused there. Poor Mick always the piggy in the middle... |

2nd part: Interviewer: "Was that sorta surreal to play for that tuxedo'd, dressed up crowd? Stevie: "Secret Service police.." Chris: "No, but they got into it, they got into it. They were all standing up- John: "Clapping on the on beat." Chris: "Yeah, even the Ol' Prez got up, didn't he, I mean.. Mr President." Mick: "MR. President." John: "Ooops." Chris & John: "Sorry, Bill." |
Stevie Nicks: "I just woke up one day and I just wasn't angry at anybody anymore for anything!"
:lol:She is so full of ****! |
"I'm sorry, I don't remember what the question was and I don't think I can answer it anyway!"
Best answer ever. |

She reminded him that "his girlfriend" would have been happy to play the steakhouse circuit. Michele |
I don't remember the rehearsal clips but do remember extracts of the interview, probably at some CBS, NBC or another TV news.

Anybody know how to capture a YouTube video's audio track as an mp3? I just realized I have the entire The Dance set on mp3 EXCEPT for "Gold Dust Woman".

Though Chris looks too serious at part1 (and the whole Dance show), but talks a lot at the interview so I think she was interested and excited about the show and the record... but maybe not the tour. |

It's a fascinating interview. Stevie was trying to very careful and diplomatic. Mick seemed to be nervous about how they were all coming off. They are a text book study, to be sure. Michele |

That is all. |
If I had seen this interview before the Dance aired I probably would have been like "we're f**ked." I can't believe these 5 stiff's went from this rehearsal to The Dance...Crazy.

Thank you for posting this. I love in part one @10:40, when Lindsey is bumping Stevie. Mick seems to realize this and says " ello, ello ", classic, then Lindsey gives Stevie the kiss on the head and Stevie laughs with that little wicked giggle, priceless. All the while Christine is talking, so I don't think that Chris or John even knew what happened, making it even funnier, well to me anyway.
As far as the group being stiff, I think they were all still in a daze that the reunion was even happening, and they were careful with their words as to not offend anyone, or dwell on anything negative from the past. When asked about their set list, they just did not want to put their cards on the table. Mick even commented to the interviewer at the end (when asked about doing Farmer's Daughter), that he was " well informed ". Also, they commented a couple of times that it was warm, and hot. I also like the fact that Christine spoke a lot during the interview, and in part two, when Stevie was asked how she felt about being an influence to so many people, Stevie paused, (again I think just wanting to be careful with her words, and not wanting to be singled out), Christine grabs Stevies arm and says " don't take it to seriously", very, very funny. I agree with John, that this is my favorite line up of the band. Very enjoyable interview that I had never seen before, so thanx again. |
I loved this interview, thanks for posting!
It's cute when the interviewer asks Stevie about being an influence, and she says "I don't really remember what the question was and I don't know how to answer it, anyways." Also, to the post above me, I think Lindsey leans over to whisper something to Mick, although I might be wrong, he might be kissing Stevie's head but I had to re-watch it carefully to come to the conclusion that he wasn't. |
To me I think it's just the fact that they hadn't been in an interview situation for a while. Also the fact that they had to be careful what they said as the tour etc hadn't kicked off yet. Stevie is a little strange though in this one, very abrupt...you are trying to promote renunion & tour, her manner suggested someone had just died.
One of my favourite interviews for sure. I think the practice was very strong as well. YMLF ftw ! |

Stevie was conscious about being singled out. She is very formal and careful in the interview. Mick and Christine are too. Lindsey is acting pretty much like himself and I can almost feel Stevie relax when he finally says, that the whole has always been greater than the parts, because the rest of what he said about leaving in 1987 could have been insulting. She was just glad that he finished on a positive note and she was able to nod in agreement. He also did say that he was involved in "TITN" and that was a bit modest on his part. He could have taken more credit there, but on the other hand, I think he was talking about his solo album too much. They also were trying to be delicate when they discussed the setlist. I do think they were telling the truth when they said it wasn't finalized yet, even though Mick did concede Farmer's Daughter. I think there was some politics going on regarding solo songs. Also, it was interesting to hear Stevie talking about wanting to write something fresh and not use an old song, the same way she later discussed what she did for SYW. Even if it wasn't John's favorite line up of the band (and I think it was and not just for monetary reasons), he would basically have to say it was, with the others sitting right there. I loved that Mick said that early FM was fun because John was just 18 at the time and John laughed in accord. We know Mick is tall, but he just looked especially tall when they were all posing for pictures. Also, Lindsey was like a little boy when he ran and got his guitar. All the photographer needed to do was suggest that they have instruments and Lindsey left immediately as if he'd been waiting to hear someone request a guitar for the last 5 hours. They are a fascinating quintet. Michele |

I've seen older FM group interviews from the early 80s where the band looks similarly bored-annoyed-uncertain. Most of the five interview very well alone or in pairs. But when the five of them are all stuck together they kind of freeze up--perhaps out of fear that someone will say the wrong thing.
Incidentally, the Say You Will line up looked equally dead when they were featured on some tv awards show hosted by Jimmy Kimmell (where he talked them in Germany via Satellite.) At the time of the rehearsals for The Dance, Lindsey, Mick and John seemed very keen to be out playing. Christine seemed excited once the music started but extremely bored or annoyed by all the other crap--lengthy photo shoots, tiresome interviews where the same questions are asked again and again, make up reapplications... Stevie's tentativeness was VERY temporary. I think she might have started out saying "I just quit this band a few years earlier" but then saw that this was an opportunity to reignite her stardom and seized it. For me the most interesting moment of the entire interview was when Mick mentioned that Bob Welch was maybe 5% unhappy with being in the band in 1974, a comment which Christine and John immediately pounced on. "I think it was a bit more than that! The writing was on the wall." |
