Since “retiring” nearly two years ago, the talented Ryan Adams has done everything from marry Mandy Moore and start a record label to release a metal album and write a real album. But what he hasn’t done is play a gig. That will change tomorrow, however, when Adams delivers his first live performance since March 2009 at a 826la.org benefit at Beverly Hills’ Writers Guild Theater.

According to Jambands, director Judd Apatow and writer Dave Eggers will host the benefit, titled “I Found This Funny: An Evening of Music & Comedy to Benefit 826la.org.” Along with Adams, confirmed performers include comedian Aziz Ansari, Fleetwood Mac singer Lindsey Buckingham, and film score icon Randy Newman.

General admission tickets for the benefit are still available. All proceeds 826LA, which is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write

The night’s top honor, the Les Paul Award, will go to multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Lindsey Buckingham, and will be presented by producer/engineers Al Schmitt (Ray Charles, Steely Dan, Diana Krall) and Elliot Scheiner (Paul Simon, Eric Clapton, Toto) along with producer Ken Caillat (Fleetwood Mac, The Beach Boys, Herbie Hancock). The Les Paul Award is presented annually to artists and others whose body of work exemplifies the creative application of audio technology.

Rather nice that Ken will be one of the people presenting the award to Lindsey.

Fleetwood Mac's electric guitar player and singer Lindsey Buckingham is to be presented with a special accolade at the NAMM show later this month.

He is to be handed the Les Paul Award at the 26th annual Technical Excellence and Creativity Awards, with the ceremony being held on January 14th.

Buckingham, who has also worked as a composer and a producer over the course of his prolific career, is to be given the honour in recognition of his body of work exemplifying the creative application of audio technology, reports MI-Pro.

The prize will be jointly presented to the electric guitar player by producers Ken Caillat, Al Schmitt and Elliot Scheiner, a trio who have worked with the likes of The Beach Boys, Eric Clapton and Ray Charles during their separate careers.

A total of 25 awards will be handed out over the course of the evening, with the Les Paul prize being viewed as the most prestigious honour of the night.

Buckingham's new solo project is due to be released in the early part of this year and will be a follow-up to Gift of Screws, which came out in 2008.

Lindsey Buckingham To Land Les Paul TEC award.

2010-10-29-buckinghamWalnut Creek, CA (October 29, 2010)--Multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Lindsey Buckingham will be presented with the Les Paul Award at the 26th Annual Technical Excellence & Creativity Awards in January.

The event will be held Friday, January 14, in the Pacific Ballroom of the Anaheim Hilton during the 2011 NAMM Show. Presented by the TEC Foundation for Excellence in Audio, the TEC Awards recognizes outstanding achievement in professional audio production and product design.

The Les Paul Award, named in honor of the reknown musician and inventor who passed away last year, is presented annually to an artist or studio professional whose passion, originality and skill in music and recording has made a lasting impact on the world. Past recipients have included Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson, Stevie Wonder, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, Al Kooper, Robbie Robertson and other musical giants since the award was instituted in 1991. According to TEC Foundation president Hillel Resner, “The prodigiously talented member of Fleetwood Mac and exceptional solo artist Lindsey Buckingham is a natural choice for the Les Paul Award honor.”

Lindsey Buckingham's career began to take off when he and Stevie Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac’s core lineup of drummer Mick Fleetwood, bassist John McVie and keyboardist/singer Christine McVie in early 1974. The former blues band, with the addition of "Buckingham Nicks," immediately morphed into a pop hit-making wonder. The group’s eponymous album, produced by Keith Olsen, contained smash singles including Buckingham’s “Monday Morning,” “World Turning” and “I’m So Afraid.”

However, it would be their next album, 1977’s Rumours, that would launch the group into the pop stratosphere, propelled by Lindsey’s tunes, “Go Your Own Way” and “Second Hand News.” This time, the band produced—along with Ken Caillat and Richard Dashut—with Buckingham taking an increasingly active role in the studio, spending hundreds of hours crafting the songs and arrangements. Rumours remains one of the best selling albums of all time.

Over the next several years, Buckingham was the principal producer on all of Fleetwood Mac’s projects, including the experimental double-album, Tusk, Mirage and Tango in the Night. In the early ’80s, Buckingham launched his solo career with Law and Order, which spawned the Top Ten hit “Trouble.” Other solo hits included “Go Insane” and “Holiday Road.”

Buckingham’s career has continued to flourish—his critically acclaimed Under the Skin came out in 2006 and was followed by the exceptional DVD, Live at the Bass Performance Hall. His latest release, Gift of Screws, came out on September 16, 2008, which will be followed by his new solo project, scheduled for release in early 2011.

The TEC Awards will be held on Friday night of the NAMM Show and is expected to attract more than 1,000 audio and music professionals from around the world. Proceeds of the ceremony provide scholarships for students of the audio arts and sciences, and support outreach programs promoting hearing health in the sound production industry.

I'm sure they still have GA tickets-that's how I'm going. Event info is posted here. Long story short the award show is only two hours long with a pre-award show reception starting at 6:00 P.M.

Anyone else going? I know I keep asking but I figure I'd give it one more try. Turns out I have to work today so I won't be able to make the Namm show but I never really planned on that part anyway.

As for video-won't happen on my part as my camera only takes 35mm film (old school.) However, they may have footage on the Namm web-site. Check this link out tomorrow.

Lindsey got his Les Paul award and I got a wave! :blob2:

The award ceremony got started a wee bit late, around 7:15 p.m. Of course they saved Lindsey's award until last and no, I'm sorry to report he did not perform. The house band, Larry Batiste & the 2Cold ChiliBone Tec Band (quite a name isn't it) and a couple session guys from LA, David Pack (Ambrosia), David Jenkins, and Larry Cartlon (Toured with Steve Lukather from Toto), gave a rousing rendition of Holiday Road to introduce the Les Paul Award segment. Why they chose that song I have no idea. Maybe because the Anaheim Hilton is right next to Disneyland (aka Wally World.)

Next up was seventeen time Grammy award winner sound engineer par excellence, Al Schmitt who gave a nice little speech about the Les Paul award and Les Paul himself. Then came the actual award presentation itself.

Ken Cailat went first. He talked about the making of Rumours and what a perfectionist Lindsey was-what a shocker! Told a nice story about how they spent all day recording a song Lindsey called, Brushes, which Lindsey decided the next day should be re-recorded in a completely different key. LOL:laugh: Cailat said Lindsey taught him how to layer guitar tracks. A visionary indeed.

Larry Carlton went last and he also talked about what a hard task master Lindsey was during the making of the Dance video. Said he and Lindsey spent three months working seventeen hours a day seven days a week putting that video together.

And, then came Lindsey. He thanked everyone and talked about his dual careers essentially saying that FWM was the "Big Movie" that helped fund his solo career or his "Little Movie." And, that was it.

I lucked out getting a seat in the front row of the cheap seats that all the award recipients, including Lindsey, had to pass by on their way out of the ballroom. There were only 4 of us in the front row and Lindsey knew the couple sitting a couple of seats down from me at the end of the row. Lindsey stopped and hugged the woman and the guy then turned to me and gave me a big wave before exiting the ballroom.

Hi Nancy! Tell the Border-Babes I'll be checking in soon. :xoxo: Been crazy busy.

FYI pix will follow in a couple of days.

Thank you for this report. I'm so sorry I couldn't go. I planned to, but it just didn't work out. I'm so grateful for the details and it feels so good to know that the people who worked so closely with Lindsey have such respect for him, even though I can just imagine Ken's groan when he came in and learned that they were re-recording NGBA and all his previous day's work was going right down the drain!

I really appreciate your telling us what happened.

Thanks for finding! Does anyone have the ability to make them bigger? I didn't want to register.

I can't help but wonder if Kristen only allows Lindsey to have 3 hangers in the closet. It's a little like seeing Gilligan or the Skipper everytime we see a picture of him.

I know. *sigh* I've already sort of accepted that Lindsey will probably only wear this exact outfit any time I anticipate a new photo of him. The prospect of anything different or new has already been dismissed years ago for me. But anyway...I'm extremely proud, as an LB fan, that he was given this honor. he totally deserves it and I think it's not too shabby that he should be getting it the same year he is releasing a new album. Kind of refreshing (and an ego boost too!).

Yay Lindsey!!:blob1::xoxo:

I'm sure they'll be more pixs. I haven't checked the Times this morning but I doubt that they'll write it up however I'd lay odds that OC Register will so keep checking their web-site.

Forgot to mention that starting Jan. 24th they are auctioning off among other things a Rick Turner guitar that Lindsey signed on Ebay in case anyone has any XMAS money left over.

I almost didn't make it myself Michelle. I had to work until 3:30 p.m. yesterday and agonized about whether to change at school and leave straight from work or go home first and change knowing that the OC freeways here in SoCal any time on a Friday night are a nightmare.

For those non SoCal fans it's called the Orange Crush for a reason. Luckily, the traffic was not bumper-to-bumper but a piece of wood came whirling across the freeway right outside of Brea and slammed into my car. I was lucky no damage but I was sure it either took out one of my headlights or had given me a flat tire because it looked like a pallet from one of the zillion semis barreling down the 57S and pallets have nails. I couldn't pull over to check because I was at a major inter-change when it happened. God or one of his angels  was certainly looking after me last night that's for sure. To quote JonBon, "Some days are diamonds, some days are dirt- or dust or something like that" Yesterday I got diamonds! :]Today I'll probably get dirt.

It was well worth it. My only regret was that I couldn't make the Namm show too. but alas I've got to pay the mortgage and all that stuff. Hard choices.

The Hilton lobby was Uber-packed with Namm attendees and the streets outside too. Most were middle-aged men and sixty-plus-music-obsessed-baby-boomers who, like me, just came for the "sake of the song" trying to recapture the feeling we got when oh so many years ago, like Jackson Browne observed, "We'd all get in the van and play." Anyway, I digress-I guess-but nonetheless-I left right after Lindsey did leaving the those with more stamina than me to party on into the wee hours of the night long after I was home and sound asleep. More hard choices.
