Could Lindsey sing some Christine songs if there is another tour?

A friend of mine is a respected music guru by those who know him. He has a really broad knowledge of rock music over the past few decades. Has attended endless concerts of many artists. I was delighted that he came to FM's Melbourne concert with me last year, that ended with us being right in front of Mama for Silver Springs at the end!

Anyway, today we were discussing the potential for another Mac tour and I felt that without being able to perform more of Christine's songs it would be difficult for them to do another tour so soon after Unleashed. I also feel that Stevie is limited in which Christine songs she can sing, due to her depleted range (which doesn't matter so much with her songs because we get the whole Stevie performance - you know what I mean).

My friend put to me that Lindsey is still such an awesome performer, still has such a great voice - could he perform some of Christine"s great songs?

What do people think? What songs would suit?

Word.

I don't want to even think about him singing her songs. She can sing them perfectly herself, she just chooses not to.

I legit cried when I saw the videos of Stevie singing Christine's songs and if I were to be put through it again by Liddy or Stevie, I'd just lose all hope in life.

I don't mind the different interpretations by other Mac members...I mean, there's a long history of the "new" people covering the "old" Mac songs. I will say that Stevie's lyric changes on "Don't Stop" are obnoxious.

Chris songs that I always felt could be covered...
Oh Daddy - Stevie
Think About Me - Lindsey
Brown Eyes - Stevie
Hold Me - Lindsey
Little Lies - Both
Isn't it Midnight - Either of them

Yes, without Chris' smooth voice, they would be totally different. It would add some variety to what is really a stale setlist.

GypsySorcerer 10-27-2010 09:46 AM

The ONLY one I think could possibly work is Think About Me. But considering how many of Lindsey's own songs are never played, I'd rather hear one of his compositions. (Tango in the Night!!!)

Artemis 10-27-2010 09:55 AM

I'd rather Stevie and Lindsey played some more of their own material than butchered Christine's, to be honest. >_>

Yep. I mean, drop Don't Stop and add SOTM PLEASE!

bluefox4000 10-27-2010 10:15 AM

I love Lindsey but.........GOD NO!!!!!!!! and yes to SOTM and double yes to Tango in the Night:thumbsup:

Mick

Sorry, but Chris is a one-of-a-kind rocker chick. No one should go around covering her songs.

Anyways, Stevie and Lindsey should maybe bring up old-time tunes (Sisters of the Moon and Blue Letter) and maybe even some we never heard live (can't quite think of Stevie, but Tango in the Night! Imagine what Bucky could do with that live)

Or even better: dig up a few Buckingham Nicks tunes, especially Frozen Love

What? Make it sound even MORE like "I'm So Afraid" than it already does?

*Gives it a listen* Yeah it does, but maybe he could make it sound like Come from Live in Boston

And, that would be an improvement? :distress:

I have no idea now. Maybe he shouldn't play it and do something else

Best idea yet. ;):D

Something like "Can't Go Back" or "Goodbye Angel" from the Mirage album sessions?

In regards to Lindsey singing Christine songs...

He already sings half of "Don't Stop", "Think About Me" & "Hold Me"...so why not just sing the whole song?

See? This is the problem with having concurrent solo careers while still trying to maintain a band profile, too. Myopic fans start identifying BAND songs with the individual songwriter. I don't care if Lindsey or Stevie sing one or more Christine songs in concert...those are Fleetwood Mac songs sung by Fleetwood Mac members. Sure, I dispise how Lindsey does "Oh Well", but I'd much prefer that the song be performed than not. So, if Lindsey ends up singing the ENTIRE "Don't Stop" (or any of the ones I mentioned earlier) that's great! I'd also like it if they also included a song by Danny Kirwan, Bob Welch, or any of the other ex-FMac songwriters, too. It's Fleetwood Mac material being done by Fleetwood Mac. If they don't want to do those songs, then go on a solo tour when you can limit your song selections to your own material.

I have only watched one video of Stevie singing Christine's part on 'Just Stop,' and it was meh. I honestly tried to like it, but just could not. :(

jbrownsjr 10-27-2010 02:45 PM

Linsdey and Stevie can barely sing their own songs let alone someone else's tunes...

LiquidDiamonds 10-27-2010 04:23 PM

I would like to hear Lindsey sing Sugar Daddy! :blob1:

michelej1 10-28-2010 12:15 AM

Lindsey could sing a Christine song in concert, but I'd hope he'd do it better than he does his verses in Say You Love Me.

Agreed.

However, I loved that he played his turner for SYLM on the Unleashed tour. The riff he played on the "fallin fallin fallin" part was killer!

Was that the first time he ever played Turner on that song?

MacShadowsBall 10-30-2010 11:33 AM

Actually what FM should do is like a medley of some of Christine's hit songs.

Gailh 10-31-2010 03:57 AM

As long as no one tries to do Songbird or You Make Lovin' Fun, which would cause me unimaginable pain, then they could have a bash at some of the others.

I'm not sure which ones though - perhaps Think About Me?

Gail

That? Right there? I love that idea

As long as they keep away from a select few songs (Songbird, You make Loving Fun, etc.) they could do a bunch of her hits, such as Don't Stop, Think About Me, etc.

Last time, the results of Don't Stop were nothing short of disasterous, though.

it was just an example song, but maybe they could try their hand at Hold Me. And leave Everywhere alone.

MacShadowsBall 10-31-2010 02:12 PM

Yeah just take 4 or so songs, highlight a verse and the chorus, give props and a shout out to Christine, and move on to "Gold Dust Woman" or whatever!

The already done "Say You Love Me" and "Don't Stop", just add something from Tusk and Tango. :)

For Tusk, they could do Think About Me, for Tango, they could do Little Lies, and for Mirage, they could do Hold Me. A little snippet of each song and a a bit of a talk beforehand about her.

I see it as more of acknowledging her work in the band and the contributions that she made...maybe they could give a funny story about Christine...or something. :D

ButterCookie 10-31-2010 02:47 PM

Peter, Jeremy, Danny, Bob Welch and everyone don't get a little talk, though

MacShadowsBall 10-31-2010 02:49 PM

True, but they weren't in the band for 27 years and contribute to the band multiple top 10 hits.

ButterCookie 10-31-2010 02:54 PM

No, but the first three only formed it :p

MacShadowsBall 10-31-2010 03:02 PM

Does Lindsey still perform "Oh Well" at FM concerts? That would be a good time for him and Mick to talk abit about FM's origins as a blues band.

Yeah he does. He gives his own spin on it, but they never talk about it to my knowledge.

EDIT: Listen guys, I'm not as die-hard a fan as many of you are, so please don't slay me with my opinions

No, I think they stopped him after last time

Fleetwood Mac really should do at least 1 "Pre-Rumours" era song, or how about a blues medley!

Though, I suppose that conversion would be more fitting in the Pre-Rumours forum. :)

Maybe they should do a blues medly. Throw in bits of Oh Well, Green Manalishi, Rattlesnake Shake (I can't even begin to imagine what Lindsey would do while performing it ) and maybe even throw in a few good Bob Welch tunes, like Hypnotized and Emerald Eyes (yeah, I discovered Mystery to Me for the first time recently, and I loved it)

No, it wasn't. He played it on the Tusk tour. However, when I heard that they were doing SYLM for the 2009 tour, I thought we were going to have to sit through that awful banjo rendition. I like that Lindsey brought the track back to its original version. Even if it was toned down a bit (ie, different vocals, lighter drumming etc), the guitar part was still rockin. I can't say that I like Stevie or Lindsey doing Christine's songs, but I have to say, SYLM came across nicely.
