Any Ledgies own a motorcycle?
So does anyone here own a motorcycle?
I'm considering buying a Harley Davidson. I'd like to know about your experiences riding. So should I, or shouldn't I? |
Ride Captain ride.

my husband has this bike...a Ducati 1098... it is so sweet. It is lighter and faster than the 999.

Happy Mid-life Crisis.

I've never been on a motorcycle. Totally want to. I'm an adrenaline junkie.
|
Thanks for your responses.
Viv, where should I ride to? Gretchen, that Ducati looks awesome. HejiraNYC, I think you hit the nail on the head. Dani, if the bike I might be buying had room for two I'd give you a ride. FAST>>>>>>>>>>>>. The Harley I'm interested in is the SPORTSTER IRON 883 (Black). |

own Harley's (One of Debbie's brothers works as a mechanic on Harley's along with her cousin)...So just go for it is my opinion to you, but be careful because most motorcyclists are NOT treated kindly on the road by automobile drivers/semi-truck drivers...Some truck drivers will intentionally try to move bikers off the road.
Unfortunately I have no sense of balance, so I cannot see myself owning a motorcycle, but I used to own a Suzuki Shuttle FA50 which I drove in my early teen years to pick up the girls in my neighborhood (Including my friend Trina, who would ride with me so we both could mow yards in the summertime - She would sit back-to-back with me as I drove and she pulled the lawnmower & weed-eater behind) |
Cool story estranged4life. And your right about other drivers not showing
respect to bikers. It's a big decision to buy one, so we shall see... |

I once owned a Honda Scrambler back in high school.

One of my friends once said: "Four wheels move the body, two wheels move the soul." That couldn't be more true if you're a two wheeled enthusiast. Whenever I ride, it totally melts away my worries and just makes me happy to be alive!
My parents have owned Harleys since the '60s. They're pretty, but they're loud, drive like a bucket of bolts, and require constant tinkering. Personally I own a pair of 150cc Vespas. They make urban commuting and errands a ton of fun, and I can scoot out to the lakes outside of town, too. We're even part of a scooter club that does group rides and such... so much fun. I'll be upgrading to 300cc Vespas at some point so we can go on interstates and truly travel with our bikes. Here are my Vespas: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._1775546_n.jpg Here I am riding near Lake Austin: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._5532800_n.jpg My other half riding near Lake Travis: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._5468793_n.jpg Definitely try going two wheel... it's a lot of fun! :woohoo: |
So they're identical except for the color?

(that's not my personal comment on bikers- I personally don't care one way or the other- but it has been at the cultural fore lately...) |
I remember...

Speaking of loud sounding transportation, The other day I was in OKC and I swore I heard a loud Harley pulling up next to me at the intersection, turns out to be a '70 Chevelle 502, similar to this one in a youtube vid (But painted Jet Black) : |

I think I'd look funny on a bike but I do enjoy seeing people out and about on their sport bikes on a warm sunny February day, especially if the person is cute pulling up next to you.
|
Not a 'real' motorcycle, but when I was a kid/teen my brothers and I had dirt bikes. It was a lot of fun riding those in the Las Vegas desert.

Louie those are good pic's. One of my best friends just got a bike, so I will have someone to ride with if I decide to pull the trigger. Maybe I should start a iamnotafraid Harley fund. And you all can donate to it. You know, share the love. |

Not a good idea! My friend's husband had just washed his motorcycle, and rode it around the block to get some of the water off - he was hit by a teenager and killed instantly - no helmet. It was so sad, she was in her 20's with two small children. |

On the positive side of things, my wrist didn't hurt as much after that accident thanks in part to me knees and elbows  |
Riding motorbikes are so much fun, i started riding just dirt bikes as a kid, then met my husband who had a fast road bike, i loved riding on the back, mainly on the open roads, city traffic isn't much fun. We have 3 sons they all race Motocross, our middle son is racing SuperX this weekend, im scared sh##less just thinking about it now, a few of the top USA riders are coming downunder to race. Fingers crossed that he stays safe!!
Anyway go for it, buy that bike & enjoy the freedom & wind in your face. |

And I appreciate all of you taking the time to share your thoughts on bikes. When I think about really buying a bike (can't get it off my mind), my heart starts pounding. Is that good??? Am I crazy? Nevermind, I'd rather not know. |
Not thats not crazy at all!!! Follow your hearts desire, then you will have no regrets down the line:wavey: Have you had much riding experience, if not take some lessons to bulid up your confidence.
