Lesser-Known Mac songs you adore

Okay, so I was trying to sleep and I couldn't, so I thought I'd listen to my iPod for a bit, since it helps me doze off.

Anyhoo, Miranda comes up on shuffle, and I'm totally rocking along to it (while trying not to fall out of bed) and it hits me... why isn't this song more popular? It's totally awesome. The guitar is epic, and I love how Stevie sorta "haunts" the song. In short, the song is brilliant.

So anyway, point I was trying to make, which song(s) do you totally adore that doesn't seem to get that much mainstream attention, like, which songs do you totally love that a casual fan wouldn't know existed?

I totally love RTTG too, don't quite get the hate for that song D:

The one Christine song that I adore the most that nobody seems to ever mention is "Morning Rain" from Future Games. It's my driving-on-a-cloudy-day song! And it rocks hard in a wah-wah kinda way.

michelej1 10-03-2010 11:32 PM

Very fond of Christine's Hollywood (Some Other Kind of Town).

The backing track is great, but I loathe her vocal on it. There's a demo of it floating around out there that has a vastly superior vocal. Why it wasn't preferred is beyond comprehension.

Love this one!

Other lesser known songs I love:

The live-in-studio version of Crazy Bout You Baby from Madison Blues.

Rollin' Man (both existing versions)

Only You (from the BBC set)

Trinity

Dragonfly

When I See (from BBC set)

Honey Hush (from BBC set)

Bad Loser

Shadows of the West

Imperial Hotel

Prove Your Love... this song is never discussed, not even in the Mac community! I think it's amongst Christine's best. It's also proof Christine was the mystical lady of Fleetwood Mac long before Stevie Nicks!

That is likely my very favorite song by Christine!!!!!!

As for other lesser known songs I like-
You and I Part 1
Sooner Or Later
Straight Back
Sisters of the Moon
Down Endless Street
Caroline
Come a Little Closer
Silver Heels
Show Me a Smile
Dust
Thrown Down
Woman Of a 1000 Years
Angel (from Heroes Are Hard To Find)

Kayli 10-04-2010 08:01 AM

Fighting For Madge, Spare Me A Little of Your Little, Lay It All Down, Remember Me, Get Like You Used To Be (unsure if this was an original recording or from Chicken Shack? Love it when Fleetwood Mac did it, though). I don't read too much love for Isn't It Midnight and Temporary One, very underrated!

Two of my favorite songs from the band are somewhat "lesser" known, Paper Doll and Heroes Are Hard to Find!

Yeah, indeed: "Hollywood (Some Other Kind Of Town)". Michael Thompson's guitar solo on that one is very stunning. "Love Shines" is impressive, too, but it's a regularly played on the radio over here in Germany so it doesn't really count.

Add to the list: "Do You Know", "Affairs of the Heart", "Paper Doll", "Temporary One", "What's the World Coming To", "Steal Your Heart Away", "Destiny Rules" - and "When the Sun Goes Down".

jbrownsjr 10-04-2010 10:18 AM

Angel (Heroes Are Hard to Find)

chiliD 10-04-2010 11:14 AM

My list would be just about every song that didn't get much radio airplay.

But, ones that stand out to me:

I Loved Another Woman (was "lesser known" until Rick Vito brought it back in '87...although Welch revived it during a couple of shows of the '74 tour)

Watch Out both versions, but the slower version on Blues Jam At Chess to me, is the superior one...proved that a white British guy could play & sing blues as well as a black American (as if he hadn't already proved that previously).

The Madges
Like Crying
Showbiz Blues
Although The Sun Is Shining
World In Harmony
Someone's Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight
Dragonfly
Purple Dancer
Buddy's Song
This Is The Rock
Lay It All Down
Sands Of Time
Morning Rain
Child Of Mine
Sunny Side Of Heaven
Dissatisfield
Remember Me
Revelation
Night Watch
The Derelict
Caught In The Rain
Miles Away
Forever
Believe Me
Angel
(Welch's)
Born Enchanter
Come A Little Bit Closer
Honey Hi
I Know I'm Not Wrong
Never Forget
Love In Store
Empire State
Only Over You
Wish You Were Here
Teen Beat
Goodbye Angel
Isn't It Midnight
Family Man
Caroline
Book Of Miracles
Down Endless Street
When The Sun Goes Down
Do You Know?
Hard Feelings
Love Shines
Paper Doll
Heart Of Stone
Winds Of Change
Nights In Estoril
Sooner Or Later
I Wonder Why
These Strange Times
Temporary One
Bleed To Love Her
Steal Your Heart Away
Murrow Turning Over In His Grave
Smile At You
Illume
Thrown Down
Not Make Believe
Destiny Rules

There are more, but I wanted to keep the list short.

Cool choice.

Moreso than "These Strange Times", though??

I have to say yes because of the high pitched, catchy backing vocals on Lizard People :D

Yes, "Prove Your Love" is an unsung (literally and figuratively) song. It certainly does have a mystical quality to it.

Is 'Eyes Wide Shut" a song? I know it's a Tom Cruise movie.

I remember on FM Legacy they would do a regular poll of favorite FM songs and Why won the poll.

Technically it's a demo for You & I part 1. However, it's better than both parts 1 & 2 put together.

You mean the demo for part II? I have never heard the demo for part I. if it exists, I'd love to hear it.

 yeah, I mean Part 2. Lord knows why I put Part 1

Note to self: I fail at the internet.

holidayroad 10-06-2010 07:14 AM

I'm wondering.....If the 'Eyes Wide Shut' version had made it onto the album, would Christine have been singing on what became 'You and I Part 1'??

Also 'Everybody Finds Out' and 'Thrown Down' :D

DMBfan 10-11-2010 05:44 PM

Does Second Hand News count? It does get some radio and concert play... but still somewhat rare for the non hardcore fan ... the Lindsey/Stevie harmonies on that song are incredible.

And wow... i can't believe Prove Your Love came up. It was one of my favorites on Hero's .... but then I later got hooked on Bad Loser. The intro sucks me in every time.

jcalzaretta 10-11-2010 08:25 PM

Holiday Road - you had some great ones that I'd include

Thrown Down
Come a Little Closer
Heroes are so Hard to Find
Everybody Finds Out
Miranda
Steal Your Heart Away
Straight Back
That's Alright
Walk a Thin Line
Caroline
Storms
Beautiful Child
