Straight Back Mirage 1982 tour

hey, why didnt Fleetwood perform, Straight Back during the mirage tour?

ontheEdgeof17 09-19-2010 08:10 PM

Rehearsed, but not performed.

I think that's what SuperFleetwood was asking... if anyone knew why the song was rehearsed, but didn't make it onto the setlist. I'd be willing to guess the answer is only known to the band, and God knows, their brains are all so fried out these days they likely have no clue themselves.

PenguinHead 09-20-2010 10:19 AM

It could have been because the rest of the band nixed it, or perhaps Stevie lacked the confidence to perform it.

Dodfather 09-20-2010 12:39 PM

I really, really wish they'd done it. It would have been unusual to see Stevie and Christine performing so closely together, which they do on this track. However, this pales in comparison to how much I would LOVE them to have performed That's Alright! They may still do it but...pffft!

SuperFleetwood 09-20-2010 02:58 PM

yeah, it could have been the bands stand back, because they sound similar! I have the extended version and it sounds great!!! It sounded like stevie or the band couldnt make it work, what do you all think?

HejiraNYC 09-20-2010 03:06 PM

Since they were already doing four new songs, they probably figured a fifth new song would have been overkill. I can kind of see why "Straight Back" was cut- it is one of those production-specific songs that don't translate particularly well to the stage. Same with "Gypsy," but at least it was a hit single so it was practically compulsory to add it to the set.

SuperFleetwood 09-20-2010 03:21 PM

ohhh, yeah maybe! sisters of the moon was off the walls on that tour!

APerfectLie 09-21-2010 09:08 AM

Too much cocaine, she didn't want to memorize the words.

SuperFleetwood 09-21-2010 02:23 PM

Yeah, maybe! but if she was on cocaine then how did she memorize her other songs?

GoldDustOrphan 09-21-2010 02:51 PM

The rehearsal performances were good.

Mick probably made an executive decision to cut the song when he realized its greatness would further emphasize just how terrible "Hold Me" sounded live.

Good point. She must have laid off the cocaine for this tour.

Actually, the side effect of cocaine is INCREASED memory (while under the influence), not memory loss. Memory loss is more of a side effect of the green leafy stuff...and alcohol.

Yeah maybe!!!! Thanks for clearing it up! she could have attempted the song on stage you know! just like I cant wait, she dropped it, they could have done the same thing!

mikebise 09-21-2010 05:41 PM

Huh? Stevie performed "I Can't Wait" throughout the entire Rock A Little tour. She was still performing it in the September 1986 Australian concerts (which I have audio of), as well as at the Red Rocks filming at the end of the tour.

Stevie mentions "dropping it" on the Crystal Visions DVD, but she's wrong: "I Can't Wait" was performed on the whole 1986 tour. Maybe she was thinking of "Gypsy"?

starshine 09-21-2010 06:16 PM

I also love Straight Back....its one of my favorite songs from Mirage....I also wished she'd performed it.....like many others......Its such a total shame really.....at least IMO....at least we have the rehersal....I also wished she'd performed GDW on Mirage ....I always wonder how it would've sounded......:D

Stevie was wrong, they did ICW the entire tour. It didn't make it on the RR DVD, but that show was still a full set. A handful of songs didn't make that DVD, which is a shame. There is a bootleg audio version of that show though.

I always thought she meant they dropped it after one night, but since we know it isn't true, I think she meant they tried it out "once" as in one tour, but dropped it after the RAL tour.

SuperFleetwood 09-21-2010 06:21 PM

do you know where that is?

What are you asking? What songs were also performed at Red Rocks but are not on the DVD? That would be:
"I Can't Wait"
"How Still My Love"
"Stop Draggin' My Heart Around"
"Leather and Lace"
"Rhiannon"

Are you asking about the bootleg audio of Red Rocks, which contains "I Can't Wait"?

Yeah!!!! is it on like a bootlegg site

mikebise 09-21-2010 07:39 PM

Yes, I've been searching for you for almost an hour. It's no longer on my mediafire account, but I'm sure someone here will post it (the full Red Rocks concert).

Or were you just wanting to hear "I Can't Wait" live in concert? There were several live versions of "I Can't Wait" on the "Best of The Rock A Little Tour" thread on here from a few months ago.

Okay, I bumped that thread for you ~ LOTS of 1986 Stevie concert recordings in there, including several of "I Can't Wait".

And a link as well, just in case:

http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=43840

But not Red Rocks, sorry.

SuperFleetwood 09-21-2010 08:47 PM

Bueller?

For a couple of other tours, the band rehearsed something new from its most recent album but didn't play it in concert. In 1979, they rehearsed "Brown Eyes," "That's All for Everyone," "I Know I'm Not Wrong," & "Honey Hi," but probably didn't play those songs at any actual shows. In 2003, I think they rehearsed some tracks from that year's album which weren't performed live, n'est-ce pas?

After all, rehearsal is the only time that something can be tried to see whether it "works" or whether everyone in the band even likes it.

My butt is really sore from sitting too long today.

Nikolaj 09-22-2010 11:27 PM

They didn't play SB because everyone would have gone to the concession stands and try to steal the beer poster the band posed for (Schlitz?) because the beer was one of the sponsors, but the posters weren't for sale.
At a 'Street Angel' tour I saw in Mass. very early in the tour, they had the pretty colorized SA poster on display at the stands with no copies to sell, before or after the show. The SA tourbook wasn't available for months, til the tour was almost over. I'd already had my black and white copy of the poster, same shot and same size, 24x36, but it was nicer in color.
I finally got my Street Angel tourbook off eBay, just this year.

Very true, David. In 1997, "Twisted" and a different new song of Stevie's, "Shadows Of Love", were rehearsed for The Dance. In 2003, "Angel" and "Storms" were rehearsed, but "Beautiful Child" was the one that made it to the stage.

In 1989, Stevie rehearsed "Long Way To Go" and "Ooh My Love" for the tour for The Other Side Of The Mirror, but neither made the cut, although "Juliet" and "Talk To Me" were performed at the first few shows.

I found the Schlitz Mirage Tour poster in a used record store back in like 1989, for $4...and i got the SA color promo from NRM when the CD was released! :) :) :)

I have that Schlitz poster - it's such a great photo! I also have both the black and white poster and color poster of Street Angel. The photos are slightly different, but the color one is one of my favorites.

I just spent $250 to get a Fleetwood Mac poster customed framed. It's a big color image of them from 1975. They all look a little drugged out. I bought it for a dollar about 15 years ago It was folded, so it has visible creases, but it's still great! It's only an image, nothing else - it doesn't have a "Fleetwood Mac" title on it. When I brought it to be framed, the woman looked at it and said "What a great pictuce...did you know Mick sells ties?" That was cool.

Someday I have to professionally frame the Wild Heart poster. It deserves it. It's been rolled up in a cylinder for for many years. Its such a beautiful poster, on a thick textured stock.

A good observation. It should be noted that Stevie's fan know/have a more acurate history of her career than she does. She often gets facts wrong, revises history, and spins stories - dramatizing them for better or worse.

I wish they could've played every song from the Tusk Tour rehearsal footage. What a show that would've been!

Anyone have audio of Straight Back from rehearsals??

If the song sounded good in rehearsals, I'd love to hear it. Love the studio outtakes and album version.
