Ledgie Secret Santa?

I know it's only mid-September, but I thought I'd bring this up early to gauge interest and give me enough time to organize it properly:

I thought it might be really fun to do a Ledgie Secret Santa this holiday season. For anyone unfamiliar with Secret Santas, it's when you are assigned a person to give a gift to, but that person is not allowed to know who has drawn their name, so it's a surprise when they get the gift. Fun!

I'm willing to organize the whole thing, so all you guys would basically need to do is put your name in the virtual hat if you want to participate and be willing to send out a gift of your own in order to receive a gift in return. Your personal information will NOT be shared with anyone but me and the person assigned to send your gift.

Ground Rules What I Have Thunked Up So Far (Subject to Change for Fine-Tuning):

1.) Gifts should ideally be Fleetwood Mac related somehow. Small memorabilia items, a Stevie-lookin' scarf, a stuffed penguin, pretty moon & stars candleholder - you get the drift.

2.) Gifts need not be expensive. I'm thinking a ten dollar USD limit, to make sure this is as affordable as possible for everyone. Handmade/crafty items highly encouraged. Get creative! Make it special!

3.) You would be responsible for postage for the gift you send. To prevent this from being too costly, I will group people from the same countries together and then randomly do the assignments from those, UNLESS you let me know that you have no problem with paying international postage - then I will just put your name in a general pot, or match you up with someone from another country that doesn't have a more local Ledgie to be matched with.

4.) Gifts MUST be sent out by the due date (which I will set in stone later, it will likely be early to mid December). Once you mail yours out, you must contact me and let me know you've done it.

5.) To participate, you are only required to cough up one gift, BUT if you are willing to do more than one, then please let me know in case I have any odd Ledgies out when it comes to matching folks up.

Things You Won't Do Unless You Want Me to Come 'Round and Lick All the Spoons in Your House (Which I Will Be Able to Do, Because I Will Have Your Address. And I Will Do It, Too. Don't Try Me, Kids. I Run With 12 Gangs):

1.) Send junk. Gifts need not be expensive, as I said above, but let's try our best to make them GOOD gifts. You do not have to spend a full 10 dollars, but don't let me hear you just bopped out to the Piggly Wiggly, picked up a stale candybar and drew half-assed crescent moons on the wrapper with a Sharpie, k? A good rule of thumb to follow when deciding on what to give is to think about whether or not it's something YOU would be happy to get from someone else.

2.) Send burnt copies of official albums, DVDs, etc. Bootlegged concerts and demos are one thing, but don't burn a copy of Say You Will and call it a day. That's a no-no.

3.) Throw your name in the hat and then not send a gift. The Ledgie Secret Santa is not your ticket to getting a free doodad, widget, whatsit, contraption, gizmo, tchotchke, tamborine, portrait of John McVie crafted entirely out of macaroni noodles and/or Frankenbok lawn ornament. This is supposed to be Fun, and not getting a present when you held up your end of the bargain and sent one out is what is scientifically known as The Exact Opposite of Fun.

So! That's what I have so far. What do you guys think? If you're interested, then I will make a Yahoo email specifically for this where everyone can send me their info and we'll get this bad boy rolling. :woohoo:

LorraineRN 09-18-2010 08:56 AM

Yes, I'm in. Sounds fun! :D

vivfox 09-18-2010 09:18 AM

Sounds like a great idea. I'll send a gift to anyone in the United States.

GypsySorcerer 09-18-2010 09:19 AM

This is a good idea. Count me in! Several years ago, we batted around the idea of a Ledgie holiday donation, but it never came to fruition.

ButterCookie 09-18-2010 01:18 PM

Absotively Posolutely 100% in!

tilthefirefades 09-18-2010 01:21 PM

Sounds great! :D

chelluversu 09-18-2010 02:30 PM

Sounds soooo awesome. I make a lot of homemade stuff so you'd probably get more than just one thing from me (FM/SN related...I'll do my best lol).

Zombie 09-18-2010 03:15 PM

Yay! Glad to hear y'all want in! I think this will be a lot of fun!

I went ahead and made a new email address for this - it's ledgiesecretsanta at yahoo.com

Anyone that wants to participate is welcome to email their info to me there!

I'll need a mailing address, and then just let me know where you're willing to send a gift (i.e. only the US or only the UK or whatever).

Also, if you have ANY private questions or concerns, send them there. I tend to be fairly aware of any rifts or weirdness that goes on between posters, but I don't ALWAYS know. I don't want anyone to end up having to send a gift to someone they are not comfortable with OR recieve a gift from someone they are not comfortable with, and since this does involve giving a mailing address to someone out there, I want everyone to be as safe as I can make them. Anything you tell me will be kept confidential.

Since it's only September, I will keep the sign-ups open for quite a while to make sure everyone that participates gets a chance to throw their names into the hat!

daniellaaarisen 09-18-2010 03:51 PM

I'm in! :)

Sahara 09-18-2010 06:28 PM

This is the best idea I've heard all week :) Count me in!

Can I request that people let others know their gender? Sometimes it's hard to tell online and I think that would influence our choices.

Edit: Wait a minute, we'll know when we receive people's full names ... d'uh ... never mind! :o

Unless they're called something ambiguous like Ashley or Lindsey lol.

I'm in but worried as I am so. Not about buying gifts or anything. Just a matter of the right one lol. Hmm...may have to go a'robbin' one of the band's houses for something really unique j/k.

jannieC 09-18-2010 07:29 PM

I'm in Annie- sending an email with info.

Don't be stupid, that's a GIRL's name. And it's spelt Lindsay.

....;)

Zombie 09-18-2010 08:36 PM

Yay, guys! So glad so much interest is happening already. This'll definitely be fun.

The gender thing is prolly a good idea, unless anyone doesn't want to specify. Maybe people can include their favorite band member, too, if they want, so I can pass that on.

That way you don't end up with a portrait of John McVie crafted out of macaroni noodles when you really would rather have a portrait of Mick crafted out of cavatappi. I'm so thoughtful!

BTFLCHLD 09-18-2010 11:53 PM

I knew there was a reason kiki has been poopin tamborines for the past week.

Dodfather 09-19-2010 06:07 AM

Yes!! This is a fantastic idea and I'm totally up for it. I'll send to anyone in the UK - I just hope that we get a few people from there. I've amailed my contact details. My favourite member is Stevie...

Al.

Thanks to everyone that's emailed so far! I've put all the info in a Handy Dandy Spreadsheet. This is how much I care about you people and making sure this thing stays organized and therefore awesome - I made a spreadsheet.

And I hate Excel. A lot.

I mean, like, I hate Excel more than I hate tomatoes. And that's saying something.

Because tomatoes are wrong.

Kena 09-20-2010 08:59 AM

I wanna play! You guys don't know me very well but maybe you will by Christmas time. I will make someone very very happy with a gift, I promise. Then you will like me the most.

Just Kidding...kind of.

So I'm in.

LikeAWillow 09-20-2010 11:03 AM

THIS IS SO AWESOME I AM SO IN THERE IS NO ROOM IN MY EXCITEMENT FOR PUNCTUATION.

Seriously, I'm pumped. This is adorable. I'm glad you started the thread early, too. I'm going to need plenty of time to plan this.

Well, who wouldn't? That's high-class art! I have a list of such excellent gift ideas in my head, should anyone need ideas.

Meowi 09-22-2010 08:16 PM

What about a Secret Santa for ledgies who do not live across the Atlantic, or the Northern Hemisphere.
Im thinking virtual gifts?

Whaaaat? This is for everybody. Y'know, unless you live on Mars, in which case I can't help you.

I don't have any other Aussies signed up yet, but we DO have folks willing to send a gift anywhere (including my own self) - and I think Australia counts as anywhere, no?

Nikolaj 09-22-2010 11:51 PM

Zombie, you're the nicest girl * to bother with all this. (*Got it right! You've jokingly twice referred to yourself as a 'bastard' here, so you know, things like that confuse an old boy like me-- unless I'm mistaken, again, no, not about being confused.)
However; dear, the entirety of up to 10 dollars is at stake. Why isn't social security number along with mother's maiden name required to receive such spoils?!
(Just a little joke!) It's a very nice thought and major effort (Spreadsheet? Ick!) you're putting into this. Thank You.

Haha, you're sweet. Yes, still a girl. Yes, also still a bastard. I always thought you could be a bastard regardless of what gender you identify with, but you will also see me refer to myself as a dude or a guy or a Macho, Macho Man (Dig My Muscles!), so I apologize in advance for any future confusion. ;)

And I know you're kidding about the 10 dolla thing, but I'm glad you brought it up anyway because I've been pondering something.

I picked that number because it seemed affordable enough for most folks without being so cheap as to be restrictive (like, "2 dolla? whatchoo want, pork rinds?") BUT I know that things are tough all over for EVERYONE right now. So I also want to add something else:

If any of you know of any Ledgies that should have a gift from Sandy Claws this holiday season but are perhaps not in a financial situation to reciprocate for whatever reason, please email me about that, too, so I can see what I can do.

The same goes for emailing me if you yourself can't afford it, though I know that's not always an easy thing to admit. I have been broker than broke, though, (and often still am), so no judgments, and as with the address info in general, anything you tell me will be kept confidential.

I really want everyone to be able to participate here, so while I can't afford a 10 dolla gift for everyone myself, I can definitely cobble together a greeting card featuring a Pop-Up Mick with Buggy-Eyes and Santa Hat. Excelsior!

Bumpin' dis bizzotch for an update:

So far, we have a goodly number of folks signed up, but I'd totally love to see more join in, so if you haven't emailed me yet to take part in the gift-y exchange-y, please do so at ledgiesecretsanta at yahoo.com. All I need from you is a mailing address, where you're willing to send a gift, and any no-nos as far as other Ledgies you'd rather not be paired up with or similar. And, as I said before, your information will not be shared with anyone but the person assigned to send you a present.

Today is October 14th (for a few more hours, anyway), so I am going to set the end of signups for November 7th. Within a few days of that, I will be emailing everyone individually with their assigned person.

Then I think we'll have the due date for sending out said gifts set to be December 7th. That's long enough for everyone to get their shizz together, but still early enough to hopefully beat the annual post office holiday slow-down as well as not interfere with anyone's holiday plans.

Thanks to everyone that's already signed up, and for those of you that haven't, but want to, hurry up 'n email me already. :wavey:

vivfox 10-15-2010 11:13 PM

The perfect gift for Bubba Fleetwood would be a bunch of boobie pics.

Zombie 11-01-2010 10:37 PM

Hey, y'all - just bumping this to remind everyone that I am closing sign-ups for the Secret Santa gift exchange on November 7th. So you've got, like, a week or some junk, if you still want in. :woohoo:

APerfectLie 11-05-2010 12:28 AM

Ahhh! I am so excited to send my gift off!! :blob2::blob2::blob2: Some Ledgie better love it :)

HomerMcvie 11-05-2010 04:53 AM

Sign me up. I have a TON of live recordings....is it fair to ask the giftee, if they lack/need certain shows?

I think it would be good for everyone who signed up to post a little something about their Fleetwood Mac taste (although I trust Annie on matching) but someone like me who is still a "senior ledgie" and doesn't know everyone well is going to have a harder time with the selection/creation process (and I'm going to aim to please damnit) . I don't want to send a skirt to an antichiffon head or someone who's already over chiffoned. I'd want to make sure they got the leg warmers. Not that I actually sew or anything . ahem.

Well I'll kick off then, lol. Hi! I'm Bee! *Waveth* And I'm an Alcoholic . I'm a Lindsey head through and through, although I definitely share Stevie's taste and style. That probably makes me an easy person to buy for, lol. Just nothing that used to have a Mummy ;)

Yay, you! Email me at ledgiesecretsanta at yahoo.com with your name/address, and I will get you on the list.

As for the asking about shows part - I totally understand the idea wanting to give someone something they don't have yet, BUT this is Secret Santa, emphasis on the Secret, so if you ask beforehand, then they'll not only not be surprised at their gift, but they also won't be surprised at who sent it.

Perhaps if you just collected your favorites with a little note about why they're your favorites? "Here's a live recording of my first ever Stevie/Lindsey/Mac show - my fav moment was when Stevie pitched head first off the stage whilst trying to collect yet another stuffed Snoopy" or "This is from that one show where Lindsey tore his rotator cuff whilst banging furiously on Mick's cymbal at the end of GYOW" or even just "yo dawg i herd u like fleetwood mac, so I put some fleetwood mac in ur fleetwood mac so you can twirl while you twirl."

That is a good idea - I'd already suggested naming your favorite Mac member in the emails to me, so folks would have a bit more inspiration for good gifties, but we can do this, too. Y'all can email this info to me, too, or just post it here.

And for everyone that hasn't signed up yet, but wants to - deadline is midnight tonight. Email me at ledgiesecretsanta at yahoo.com to get in on the action.
