Album Title Choice

I hope Stevie chooses a shorter title this time around.

I think those such as "The Other Side of The Mirror" and "Trouble in Shangri-La" were too long. It all comes down to the number of syllables. Mirror was 8 syllables, Trouble was 6.

Based on the new tracks we know of, I think "Italian Summer" would be a cool title. Even "In Your Dreams" would be interesting as would "The Ghosts Are Gone".

Let's look at it this way:

Stevie Nicks - Italian Summer (5 syllables)
Stevie Nicks - In Your Dreams (3 syllables)
Stevie Nicks - The Ghosts are Gone (4 syllables)

I would like to hear what you guys think!

Does anyone have any single word titles that work for this release? Just curious.

Nikolaj 09-18-2010 03:35 AM

I think self-titled would be kewl, old school, and new at the same time.
Just
'Stevie Nicks'

Sort of like a return to the 'BN' release before the 'Fleetwood Mac' 1975 release.
Using 'Stevie Nicks' as the title could hint that the contents within are too important to give the work a title. Or, a "whole new old way of naming an album"- used in 1973 and 1975, but not since.

Sanne2 09-18-2010 05:39 AM

DNW Italian Summer as an album title, it's just cheesy, even as a song title.
I really like The Ghosts Are Gone, but In Your Dreams is more "Stevie".

priestofnothing 09-18-2010 07:56 AM

I hope it's not "The Ghosts are Gone", because it will be abbreviated "TGAG" on message boards like this. I don't want to have to refer to a Stevie album as TGAG! :-)

rsjolivieri 09-18-2010 08:20 AM

how about Eurythnicks

just bringing in the Dave Stewart connection.

i am really looking forward to hearing the new stuff though, Dave Stewart is very talented and i think he and Stevie will blend well.

Josh2003 09-18-2010 09:09 AM

Hope hope hope it isn't "In Your Dreams." It's just a bit *too* "Stevie."

MissLadyLoki 09-18-2010 09:23 AM

I'm personally one for the self-titled Stevie Nicks album. Aside from being a debut, many bands have used t for a big change in sound.

Lala 09-18-2010 09:27 AM

Definitely dig 'The Ghosts Are Gone'

I like this idea.

skuncles 09-18-2010 09:42 AM

I don't see her going with a self titled thing, it's too plain. If she doesn't use a song title, then she'll go the OSOTM route and use a line or phrase from one the album's songs. Remember she didn't even call her collection albums "Greatest Hits" or "Best Of".

Tango 09-18-2010 10:00 AM

Sargasso--as in the Sargasso Sea, with all the crystal blue green water that she has referred to in her recording history. It's the heart of the Bermuda Triangle--that whole "lost in a sea of love" thing . . .

"STEVIE NICKS - I'll Sit On Your Face" :]

APerfectLie 09-18-2010 10:53 AM

I think In Your Dreams and The Ghosts Are Gone are both amazing song titles, but album titles? Not so much. Also, Italian Summer is kinda cheesy. For What It's Worth may work. I'm hoping she has another amazing song title up her sleeve, or an amazing lyric that is very Stevie.

But then some young clueless people might be like "Who's this Annabel Lee chick? And what kind of album title is Stevie Nicks?"

:]

pwyll 09-18-2010 06:13 PM

I would rather a self titled album rather than a title that just doesn't fit or will be used negatively in reviews, articles, etc.

Yeah...but just imagine the album cover! Stevie in a nineteenth-century dress, with a funeral veil and a moonlit beach behind her. Oh yeah. I can dig it.

I like this idea too!

Of the three listed above, "Italian Summer" would be my choice, and I think Stevie might lean this way too because she's said that many of the songs were inspired by her time in Italy.

"In Your Dreams" is cheesy and too typically Stevie for an album that I think will see her move in some interesting new directions. "The Ghosts Are Gone" sounds too much like a final-album-ever for my liking!

pwyll 09-18-2010 07:42 PM

I only mentioned "The Ghosts are Gone" because I envision the departure from the airy, fairy back to the solid ground rock star,

Sahara 09-18-2010 07:45 PM

^^ Ahh, I see your point now. That makes sense, there's realism in it.

Where did the phrase come from? Was it mentioned as a song title?

tlssln 09-18-2010 08:04 PM

I think she needs to be more creative with the title and not just name it after one of the songs, like the Rumours album. And nothing flaky! Maybe she should ask John McVie for a suggestion since he came up with the Rumours one.

I like this ;)

For What It's Worth would be an awesome title. I could totally see her self-titling it though, like some of you mentioned.

"Annabel Lee" would be an interesting song title, but I doubt she'd go there either, however, for a cover shot, something like this would be cool. I found this while looking up "Annabel Lee".

Yeah, I agree... something like that would be very cool!

I don't mind the song 'The Ghosts Are Gone' though I'm not sure for an LP/cd title though. Considering also that Stevie could very well change any of these 'title's as we well know it (also considering that she did with an old title of the song 'If Anyone Falls' to 'If Anyone Falls In Love'....which I prefer the first one since 'that's ' what I know it by......I do like the above ideas in the Fmac vain and do a 'title' for the LP thats not in a song or phrase. Rumours & Mirage are both cool LP's esp since there isn't a song about either of those titles' on the lp and they were both successful.......Maybe it could just convey what the lp/cd is about without being a song title.....but I guess she did that sort of with Timespace since that isn't a song title either really......can't say that about Crystal Visions since it is from Dreams song......I guess we'll have to wait and see.....I just hope really hope its a great LP cover shot.....I want something really, really Stevie.....SA was a disppointment in LP cover photo esp after seeing those outtakes and 'hearing' what the supposed LP cover what supposed to be that wasn't....not that its horrible it just didn't seem Stevie like really. TISL outtakes are also better than the LP cover......the flower shot of her looking at the camera was more Stevie than the behind shot.....but I know some people really like it....etc......we've all discussted the LP covers etc at length....I guess we'll just have to wait and see.....but if this is or gonna be her last solo lp I just want it something (full package) special......nothing just thrown togetther........at least thats what I hope for in the long run......we'll have to just wait and see.....:D

Keep it real like Too Short and call it "Album Number Seven".

Oh absolutely :) That thought reminds me of Sarah Brightman's photos for her last album. Musically it had a gothic theme and the photos she and her team produced were absolutely breathtaking. I'd be so excited if Stevie went for something like this and created a visual glimpse of the fantasy world she's pulling us into with her new music

PenguinHead 09-21-2010 08:14 PM

The word "dreams" is so overwrought in the Stevie vocabulary, and "In Your Dreams" is such a generic, cliched phrase. Though they were long titles, at least "The Other Side of the Mirror" and "Trouble in Shangrila" were evocative and unusual.

"Italian Summer" is a nice song title, but too specific for an album title. Perhaps a line or phrase from the lyrics of song on the album will lend itself to a great album title. "The Other Side of the Mirror" is the only album where she did that, instead of using an actual song title.

In what instance has that ever happened? I've never heard of or seen an album title criticized. The contents , yes, but not the album title.

(kinda)

johnnystorms 09-22-2010 02:37 AM

my vote

is for Stevie Nicks. she's never done it, the upshot is, people who are unfamiliar with her music have probably heard her name. i think it might be the best choice from a marketing standpoint.

Jondalar 09-22-2010 03:00 AM

I bet the album title will have something do with her experience with making the album.

I think you're right. She's mentioned the great songwriting duos in history... I bet the title will reference somehow this "new" songwriting process in some oblique way. In the past, she's always had her titles set before the album was actually finished (not sure about TISL). Maybe because she wasn't planning on doing an album is why she's hasn't come up with a title yet. I'm more curious about what the cover is going to look like.

Seriously, the fact that I've not heard that in some remix somewhere is suprising. I think Dave Stewart best insert that clip on the album at some point. SERIOUSLY DAVE ARE YOU LISTENING! That would be so b**a**!!!! Could you imagine the album OPENING with that clip. HOT!

Christopher 09-22-2010 11:08 AM

Stevie had the album title for TISL all the way back to 1995. It is unusual for her not to have a title beforehand, probably cause she was not planning a new album and went into the writing sessions with only a couple of newly written songs - the New Orleans song & the Soldier's Angel, plus 3 older demo's. Interestingly, album title's that were suggested to Stevie were "Enchanted" by her brother, and TOSOTM was suggested by her manager at the time Tony Dimitriades. Perhaps she will use the title she suggested for SYW; Infatuation, if it fits the material. She does seem to be smitten with Dave and the work that they created together.

To me, that's a bit too "Bob Welch" for a Stevie Nicks album.
