If you could ask Lindsey five questions.....

If you could ask Lindsey Buckingham five questions, what would they be?? Here are some on my mind. Of course, I could think of many more!

1. If you had not succeeded in the music business, what career do you think you would have had?

2. Do you regret joining and/or rejoining Fleetwood Mac?

3. What other musicians do you wish you could work with (or could have worked with)?

4. How much longer do you think you'll want to record albums and/or tour?

5. Do you wish that you had married/had children earlier or are you happy with the way things turned out?

Tango 09-10-2010 09:28 AM

1-If Fleetwood Mac decides to soldier on without Stevie and you decide to continue with the band, is there a female singer that you would suggest to join?

2-Do you regret doing "Crystal" on the Fleetwood Mac "white" album? What song would you have put on in it's place if John hadn't pushed for that song?

3-You have stated "the big machine" allows you to do what you want in your solo work. If you drop the big machine, what would you be doing instead?

4-You self taught yourself guitar and other stringed instruments. How much time did you dedicate to playing the banjo? What do you enjoy playing on the banjo?

5-How hard is it for you to try to shake up the set list when Fleetwood Mac goes on tour? What songs hasn't this band performed lately that you would like to pull out?

~GoldDustWoman~ 09-10-2010 09:28 AM

I like your questions...although I can't really think of any other then "Do you think you would have stayed with Stevie if things had been different?"

chiliD 09-10-2010 11:14 AM

1) Do you secretly wish that Rick Turner would've called the Model 1 "the Lindsey Buckingham" instead? (like Gibson did with Les Paul)

2) Ever consider releasing an album of covers instead of your own songs?

3) Are there Fleetwood Mac songs from eras other than your own (besides "Oh Well") that you'd like to reinsert into the concert set list?

4) Other than the financial rewards, do you regret the popularity of Rumours?

5) Would you like fries with that?

Lori40 09-10-2010 11:28 AM

I think most of my questions for Lindsey would be about his songs.

1) Is "Red Rover" really about you? When you introduced the song, you mention "gods pulling the plug on all of this". Did you mean a "rock god" or "guitar god" such as yourself?

2) Is "Bleed to Love Her" kind of a follow up to "Don't Look Down"? DLD about leaving FM, and then BTLH returning to the band?

3) Did you read "Storms"? If so, is "Bel Air Rain" your response to CAH?

4) Why did you change "Twist of Fate" to "Right Place to Fade"?

5) Who is "Treason" about?

MissLadyLoki 09-10-2010 11:47 AM

1.If you and Stevie had never joined the Mac, where do you think you 2 would have been both musically and romantically?

2.You have often stated that the Les Paul, while it sounded good, wasn't suitable for your playing style. Can you please elaborate on that?

3.If you hadn't left the Mac in 1987 following the release of Tango in the Night, what do you think would have become of the band both creatively and financially?

4.I have heard many stories behind it, but what was your exact reasoning behind why you decided to cut your hair and shave you beard?

5.I ran out, but can you teach me to play acoustic Big Love? Please?

Cool question. I actually never thought of it like that, but, since you mentioned it, I can definitely see how it relates to Lindsey and FM  Ooh, now I can listen to it from a whole new perspective!

I think I already asked this on Lindsey's website, but two of them would be:

1. What traits of yours do each of your children possess and when you see those characteristics reflected back at you, is it sometimes frustrating?

2. Why did the band borrow from Double Suicide for the SYW cover? What about the movie or the cover art spoke to you?

3. What has happened that you most wish your father had lived to see? Same question about your brother?

1 Question/Idea

I have been thinking a lot lately about what is next for the most creative members of Fleetwood Mac. I certainly don't think Lindsey has finished with his visionary music creation.. but I get the feeling that now that he is 61 this year.. that some of his physical ability will most likely begin to decline over the next 5-10 years.

I really think he is the most talented and instinctive guitar player and musician of all time! And him combined with Stevie, Mick, John and Christine is the type of combination that is so rare that all the stars had aligned in a way that has never or will never happen again. This combination, and Lindsey's creativity and persistence alone has been the ultimate gift to everyone around the world and will remain forever. However, it is obvious that Lindsey's ultimate creativity and influence in music, and on the world deserves so much more recognition. He is such an individual and has dedicated his entire life and effort to creating such original, visionary, meaningful music.

I cant wait to hear what is next for Lindsey but I do think a fullon, in depth serious documentary should be made on Lindsey alone which would delve into his life from child hood, his influences and his journey of creativity. He really deserves massive recognition for what he has created and for what he stands for. The combination of his music creativity and the qualities that he stands for, i feel, makes his work so worthy of Massive Recognition. This is a man who has the best values, the biggest heart, unrelenting individuality and passion. He is absolute perfection 100%. He is so one of a kind, that anyone in today’s world could never, no matter how hard they tried, have the level of ability and drive that he has. It is impossible with the amount of distractions and information available. There will never be anyone like him EVER.

And for the sake of their (FM's) combined genius, and for what they have provided the world, Just to top it all off as a final finale while they still can, I think Lindsey, Christine, Mick, John and Stevie (or Lindsey, Mick & John at least) should combine to create one last lengthy (like 10 or more mins) instrumental piece that would typify their combined individualism, ability and creativity and represent the final unity and closure of the band and the respective members.

I think their music has been so influential and important that something like this would have to occur before Lindsey, Mick and John are finally finished as a whole as sad as that would be.
I LOVE YOU LINDSEY. THANKYOU FOR YOUR LIFE! You are my Ultimate role model and you stand for everything I believe in.

Sounds like you love Lindsey as much as I do!! I agree that there should be either a book or film documenting Lindsey's life. It would be interesting to know more about his influences, how he goes about the creative process, and what more he feels he needs to accomplish musically before he quits the business.
In recent years, it seems that he is getting a little more recognition. Younger artists are picking up on his songs and expressing their appreciation for him. I still think he deserves a lot more recognition, though!
I do think he and the members of Fleetwood Mac need to keep in mind that there are getting to be less and less years that they will be able to record or work together. They really need to think more about getting out whatever material they really want heard.

1. Much has (rightly) been made of your guitar playing, but your lyrics and vocals are, to my mind, just as distinctive and integral to your work. How do you feel about these aspects of your music? Who are your heroes?

More importantly

2. When are you touring Europe? And when will we hear a live Tango In The Night? ;)

I'll think of some more!

(Edit: )

3. What song are you most proud of? What's fun to perform live?

4. Are there any moments from your live performances that really stand out for you?

(Another edit: )

5. As you're probably aware, your female fans find you terribly attractive ;) How do you feel about your appearance? What were your favourite looks? Any disasters? ;)

Sahara 11-11-2010 06:27 PM

Sorry to bump, but I can't stop thinking about this thread. I really want answers! What do you think the chances are that Lindsey might do a Q&A for the Ledge? He did one on radio not so long ago, and he always seems so interested in connecting with his fans when he performs. Any chance?

iamnotafraid 11-11-2010 08:16 PM

1. Do you need an apprentice?
2. Would you accept an apprentice?
3. How about an apprentice?
4. Care for an apprentice?

5. May I be your apprentice?

Lindsfan 11-11-2010 09:38 PM

First thing I'd ask would be to get my picture taken with him. Besides being a lasting memory, it would give me the opportunity to touch him*sigh*, and he'd maybe put his arm around me

If I had 5 more besides that, I'd ask if, when he tours in 2011 could he please play?????:

1) Bel Air Rain
2) The Ledge
3) D.W. Suite
4) Slow Dancing
and
5) Street of Dreams

WMYTYTO, DCTUSA, Bwana, Frozen Love, Stephanie...so many more I'd love to hear live as well, but you said only five questions, and I already asked six!

Honestly though, I think I'd be completely tounge-tied, and just stand there drooling and looking stupid :o

*melts into giggling heap on the floor*
Some bright Ledgie suggested a while back that he might do an acoustic job on Slow Dancing and Tango in the Night. I personally think that's the sexiest idea since sex
Although having seen the two live versions of Go Insane, I'd be really torn between wanting acoustic live versions or a more faithful reproduction of what's on the albums. Oh well, he'll just have to do it twice! :D

I'm good with him doing Slow Dancing twice

John Mellencamp, on his unplugged album, started out doing an acoustic version of Summer of '69, and then went full on into the more rockin' album version. Lindsey could do that. A very extended intro, and then right to the album version...followed by a full version of the little music box song at the end as icing on the cake!

TITN I'd want just the album version, but with an even bigger solo.

Ooh, now you're taliking...he really could dig deep and surprise us with something like that

Or how about coverin' Warren Zevon's Overdraft. That would be fun live ( is it still a cover, if he actually played on it?? )!!

It's my birthday this week ... Lindsey, this is what I want, mmmkay?

How about acoustic Walk a Thin Line? There is a version available from some band's blog which is really nice - just voice and the guitar... it should be even better if it was Lindsey's voice, live. I'd actually like that much better that the original Tusk arrangement which I think is kinda syrupy, those u-huhs watering down such a beautiful ballad.

I think I'd like that a lot

Confession: I hated SMAP the first time I heard it on Tusk, and didn't listen to it for a long time :distress: but then, after seeing a video of Lindsey playing it live during his UTS tour, I fell in love with it. Such a beautiful song. Sooo, I decided to give the original another listen...and I'm glad I did. Now, it's one of my favorite Lindsey songs - album version and live version, both!

WATL took a little getting used to as well, though I really adore all of Tusk now, and am so glad I gave it a chance! I agree it's a pretty tune, and would be amazing live and acoustic.

I don't like the Tusk version of Save Me a Place, either. It's the only song by Lindsey that I really dislike.

Do you like it live?

Silver Springs 11-17-2010 07:19 PM

It's interesting that such long time fans had such a problem adjusting to Tusk. It was one of the first albums I ever listened to of Fleetwood Mac's and I took to it instantly. Maybe it's because I'm just as "eccentric" as Lindsey when it comes to my music. Heck, he must have some issue if he thought he could release Bwana on an album and not expect it to raise one titter from a listener. Although I like the song, it absolutely smacks of "Wierd Al Yancovic does Lindsey Buckingham".

I'm actually a pretty new fan. I'm 46, so I've known FM most of my life, but, I was never a true fan...I just liked their songs when they came on the radio. It wasn't until I saw Live in Boston on Palladium HD in summer of 2008 that I became a fan...instantly! Really, I was blown away, and Lindsey's energy level, and talent just blew my mind. So, I started listening to their stuff again. I had the white album and Rumours since they first came out, but never heard TUSK ( heard the song, but not the album ). SMAP I thought was too whiny, but you know, I kinda did what Lindsey talks about in Undergound. I heard 15 seconds and that was enough...same with The Ledge. But then, like I said, after hearing SMAP live, I sat down and gave the whole album a full listen - with good headphones, no less!! That was that...I became a convert

Wow. I actually wouldn't have guessed that about you. You seem like such a seasoned "groupie", for lack of a better term. But I guess, having been a complete Penguin Head for only over three years now, I can see how easy it would be to fool. It amazes me how much I can spout off about the band and their recordings ad lib, much much more so since I joined The Ledge lol. *Smooches Underground for its lovelyness*. It happens alot, that you could hear a piece of music or a band without really hearing it, and then suddenly something clicks and you realise just how much you love it. My Dad used to play TitN all the time in the kitchen downstairs, and it was kind of like background noise. And then suddenly I found myself with my ear to the floor in rapt attention for the entire album. Now I'm hoooked on Mac-ahol :)

I need to learn to multi-quote or whatever :o But since I don't have a clue how...

LOL... When you're passionate about something, you learn quickly...that's for sure

I hope my son eventually comes to appreciate FM and Lindsey too. Right now though, it's still definitely background noise!

I DON"T KNOW!! -

And I swear, Lindsey hooked me first. I mean, FM was a staple, like the Eagles, The Doobies, or The Beatles. I always liked them, but couldn't have told you who the players were...never went to their concerts, or gave them a second thought. Now I'm a groupie :D Cool...

Just stuff. The frames you LOVE soo well in your signature? I created that from captured frames soon after one of our conversations. That boy!! That'd be what you might be seeing when you do talk, so I hope that gives glimpse. I do hope those that want, do have the opportunity to meet with him. He is very warm, receptive and I was instantly enamored with his eloquence.

THAT'S where I got it? Seriously, some time back I was trying to figure that out, and I couldn't re-trace my steps! Was it posted on the Ledge, or did I swipe it from you somewhere else ?? Sorry for taking it...do you mind ( please say no... )? For the life of me I couldn't recall... :sorry:

Thank you for the insight. It means a lot to hear from those that actually met him, that he's as beautiful ( physically AND personality wise ) and endearing as we've ( I've ) believed him to be.

BTW, are you, by chance, one of the ladies in the GOS backstage video shot by Lindsey? The part where he's driving to up to the venue's back entrance and he stops to chat with a few fans ( and gives one a hug even! )? Again, when I first started lurking around the Ledge I remember reading that it was some Ledgies, but I don't remember who they were

doll, pleases me you've on display, please do enjoy as you have. I don't recall seeing the specific fan interaction you've mentioned, but that wouldn't have been me. I know there are GOS road vids, but seemed as soon they were putup they were prettymuch shutdown before I had time to soak in the visual deets; shame what happened to his youtube, really.

One question:
What was going through your mind the second Mick asked you to join Fleetwood Mac? Fear? Stress? Euphoria? All of the above? And did you really (in your heart of hearts) want Stevie to join with you?

Thanks, you're sweet - and I do love the pics :)

The videos are actually still on Youtube, but you can't see them on his channel, which, like you said, has been stripped bare :distress:
This is the one I was referring to - and he doesn't hug her...he gives her a friendly kiss ( starting at about 2:10 )!! :

Was there something said at one time about an issue with that song being on the album? IMO it's so much better than the Buckingham/Nicks version. His voice is softer and has more feeling. Christine's addition of the Fender Rhodes is amazing and the long outro instrumental as it fades out is perfection. Just wondering if there is some info behind that song that inspired you to ask the question is all.
