Songs You Can Listen to 700 Times in a Row
I might be the only person that does this, but I somehow doubt it. I have a habit of occasionally latching onto a song and listening to it about 700 times in a row. Eventually, I will switch it up, and I don't do that ALL the time, but since I'm doing it currently with a Nick Cave song, I thought it might make a fun thread topic.
Here's the current song: Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, "Come Into My Sleep" Some others I do this with: The Cult - "Fire Woman" - I am totally driven to flail around like a spazzy wombat to this song every time I hear it, which is, as you can imagine, something of an inconvenience. If I ever come visit you, please do not play this song or some of your valuables might get broken. Seriously. I just had to get up and do it because I had to pull up the song on YouTube for linking purposes. Sisters of Mercy - "Flood II" - If Doktor Avalanche wasn't a drum machine, I would totally marry him. Also, he gives great advice. Move the hell over, Dear Abby - the Doktor is IN (and probably judging me for making terrible jokes). Mick Harvey (former Bad Seed) - "Out of Time Man" Moloko - "Forever More" - I LOVE this song. Not only does it have a great beat and you can dance to it, but the video is fun as hell. Love the choreography. And Roisin Murphy is adorable. David Bowie - "Cat People (Putting Out Fire)" TV on the Radio - "Wolf Like Me" - y dis song so gud, tv on radio? Fields of the Nephilim - "For Her Light" - Goth cowboys FTW Mission UK - "Deliverance" Devin Townsend - "Bad Devil" - I don't know what a "bad double-decker devil" is, but it's gotta be awesome, because Devy is never not awesome. There are a lot more, because I clearly have too much time on my hands, but that's probably enough for now. Whatcha got for me? |
Fleetwood Mac - Silver Springs (The Dance live version)
R.E.M. - At My Most Beautiful Mumford And Sons - Lover Of The Light The Who - Baba O'Riley Sarah McLachlan - Ice The Beatles - Hello Goodbye Jefferson Airplane - Volunteers The Eagles - James Dean Leonard Cohen - First We Take Manhattan The Turtles - Elenore The Beach Boys - Don't Go Near The Water and Long Promised Road (bleed into one another deliciously) The Jam - Town Called Malice Stevie Nicks - Crash Into Me Loudon Wainright III - Heaven Mott The Hoople - American Pie/Golden Age Of Rock And Roll Kate Rusby - A Rose In April David Gray - I Think It's Going To Rain Today |
Just off the top of my head....will probably think of more later:
Fleetwood Mac - Oh Well (original studio version) Fleetwood Mac - Hypnotized (original Mystery To Me album version) ZZ Top - La Grange (original album version) Rolling Stones - Honky Tonk Women (original 45 mix) Allman Bros Band - In Memory Of Elizabeth Reed (from Live At The Fillmore) Allman Bros Band - Jessica (original album version) Beatles - One After 909 (original Let It Be LP version) Beatles - And Your Bird Can Sing (UK Revolver LP mix) Little Feat - Fat Man In The Bathtub (original Dixie Chicken album version) Little Feat - Spanish Moon (original Feats Don't Fail Me Now album version Beach Boys - Somewhere Near Japan (officially unreleased demo version) |
This is pretty similar to what I would call my favorite songs of all time.

I love this song! It has the highest play count on my iPod.

Thanks, guys! I might be a dork (HAH - might?), but it's really cool to see how different everyone's lists are from each other's and how they're the same, too. Also neat to see how genres vary wildly in individual lists.
tilthefirefades - have you ever heard the Krikor Edit of "Goodbye Horses"? It's REALLY good, and another one of those songs where when I hear it, I can't NOT get up and dance around. Except instead of spazzy wombat, I'm all "Oh!" (link NSFW) |

I know in an earlier post I mentioned these 2 songs, but really for me, Vincent and Castles In The Air by Don McLean are 2 of the greatest pieces of rock and roll poetry that I have ever heard. I am not a fan of American Pie at all, but the other 2 I can literally listen to 1000 times in a row and NEVER get tired of hearing Don's singing!

The total amount of crazy happening in that video has always charmed me to no end. Song is great, too. I love Tori Amos' cover of it - have you heard it? She has such an amazing way with cover songs: |
Ok I know I'm going to sound like a complete fossil when I admit this, but I also love some 50's ans 60's stuff too. my favorite song from that era that I remember my mother playing for me when I was a a 4 year old was:
Denise: Randy & The Rainbows |

Oh man, me too. The whole thing is hilarious, but I always find myself particularly lol'ing when they are wrecking the dinner table and you hear someone shout, "YOU'RE MAKING IT WORRRRRRRSE!" in an anguished voice. Pure love. My true favorite will always be the one for "White Wedding," though. STANDIN' BY CANDLES. These will never not be funny. |

So glad you liked it! I said it before in this thread, but I really love the way Tori does covers (though, oddly, I can't usually get into her versions of "Landslide," for some reason, but given all the previous sh*t covers of "Edge," I'd be really curious to hear what Miss T came up with for it. ). She has a real knack for being able to make them her own and make them amazing while still holding the original in high regard. So much so that I can actually put several Tori covers on the list of things I can listen to forever: Tori doing "Desperado." If I died while listening to that, the only thing I'd regret is that I'd never get to listen to it again. No joke. Her absolutely gorgeous cover of Tom Waits' "Time." Waits is so...Waits, it's really difficult to do a song of his justice, but Tori does it very well. That particular version is extremely moving, coming as it did on Letterman's first day back after 9/11. Her cover of Led Zep's "Whole Lotta Love" - OMFG is all I can ever say about that one. It is teh sex. Also, seriously, how cute is she? "Ho-lee, ho-lee, HO-LEEEE." You can hear a bit of "Thank You" at the end, but she also has an equally amazing full version of "Thank You," too. Beautiful. And, of course, can't forget her cover of Britney Spears' "Baby One More Time." That always cracks me up, because when you listen to Britney do it, it's a mediocre pop song, but when Tori does it, it's somehow turned into a meditation on domestic violence... (For those unfamiliar with Tori, the Tash she refers to in the little monologue at the beginning is her young daughter). I could go on. I heart Miss T so hard. |
