New album track listing (updated)

**Last edit: 03.07.11

I thought I'd start a thread that could be updated with the songs we've heard Stevie mention as being on the new album, IN YOUR DREAMS. It had previously been reported that there are 14 tracks on the album, but the Rolling Stone interview with Stevie and Rod Stewart posted 02.03.11 says there are 13, of which 7 were co-written with Dave Stewart. It was previously reported that Stevie wrote 5 of the tracks on her own, which totals 12. Perhaps the 13th song was cowritten with Mike Campbell. Or, perhaps one or more of Stevie's solo-written songs has been cut and there are two or more songs written with Campbell. Complicated math. ;)

Thus far, we have 12 specific song titles (the first 12 listed below). The only missing title is the exact one for the so-called New Orleans song.

1. Italian Summer (Nicks-Stewart)
2. Annabel Lee (Nicks-Stewart-Ballard)
3. The Ghosts Are Gone (Nicks-Campbell? or Nicks-Stewart)
4. Everybody Loves You (Nicks-Stewart)
5. The Soldier's Angel (Nicks)
6. For What It's Worth (Nicks-Campbell)
7. Cheaper Than Free (Nicks-Stewart)
8. In Your Dreams (Nicks-Stewart?)
9. Secret Love (Nicks) - First single
10. Moonlight - A Vampire's Dream (Nicks) - based on the "Lady from the Mountain" demo
11. Wide Sargasso Sea (Nicks-Stewart)
12. You May Be the One (Nicks-Stewart)
13. Title not yet known - New Orleans song (Nicks)

sorcerer999 08-25-2010 07:51 PM

Remember that Stevie has been quoted as saying 9 songs were written with Dave, and 5 songs were hers. I'm not sure if the Mike Campbell songs are included in the 9 with Dave or in the 5 that Stevie wrote...but we know 3 songs that she wrote by herself
1.Twilight Song
2. New Orleans Song
3.Soldiers Angel

as well as a song from the vault circa 1976. Could the fifth song be one of Mike Campbell's or could it be Annabelle Lee (even if Dave wrote a minuet for it, she still might consider it to be solely hers since it's been around for awhile)?

Curiouser and curiouser...

:)

crystal baller 08-25-2010 08:13 PM

Does anyone else think she's going to bring out Cecelia, could be one of the vault songs?

CADreaming 08-25-2010 09:47 PM

Possible Mike Campbell song: "My Heart"

Josh2003 08-25-2010 11:05 PM

Do we know for sure that the "New Orleans song" and the "Twilight" song are separate songs? Both make references to vampires...

8. "Twilight song"
9. Mike Campbell Song #1
10. Mike Campbell Song #2 or unspecified Stewart collaboration
11. 1976 song (vault)
12. 1976 song (vault)
13. unspecified era vault song and/or Stewart collaboration
14 .unspecified era vault song and/or Stewart collaboration

If Annabel Lee doesn't deviate from Stevie's demo it really should be (lyrics Poe, music Stewart-Ballard. Additional lyrics Nicks).

Well, since it was completely recorded, mixed and mastered and actually on (very rare) copies of the 16-track CD of Trouble in Shangri-la, "My Heart" is pretty much an unofficial official release. It's not like it's some old piano demo; it's already completed. Plus, it's also all over the Internet, YouTube, everywhere. However, I could be wrong, of course.

However, a Stevie version of "You Like Me" isn't in circulation. We've never heard her version. That would be a nice surprise!

Wait a second. WAIT just a second. WHAT? There was a 16 track version of TISL?

mikebise 08-26-2010 08:54 AM

Yes. When Stevie did the Arizona benefit in September 2000, at the party the 16 track CD of Trouble in Shangri-la was playing, including the songs "My Heart", "Thrown Down" and "Touched By An Angel", plus a completely different version of "Bombay Sapphires". Various people got official copies of that CD, and, of course, some of them made copies. And that's where "Thrown Down" and "My Heart" came from.

A few of the songs had slightly different mixes as well. Here is the track listing for the extended CD that several people got in 2000:

01. Trouble in Shangri-La
02. Candlebright
03. That Made Me Stronger
04. Sorcerer
05. Planets of the Universe
06. It's Only Love
07. Everyday (missing a few overdubs)
08. Bombay Sapphires (alternate version)
09. Love Changes
10. Too Far From Texas
11. I Miss You (different mix)
12. Fall From Grace
13. Thrown Down
14. My Heart
15. Touched By An Angel
16. Love Is

sorcerer999 08-26-2010 09:25 AM

Which makes me think it's quite possible we won't get all 14 songs. I'm pretty sure some will be cut.

mikebise 08-26-2010 09:37 AM

Well, the official Trouble in Shangri-la is thirteen tracks, as was Street Angel. Thirteen or fourteen sound about right for a Stevie album.

Plus, for Crystal Visions and The Soundstage Sessions (and even Live In Boston 2003), different bonus tracks were available from WB/Reprise, iTunes and Amazon. So, it's very possible for this new album that we will get all of Stevie's new recordings! :)

I sure hope the old Campbell track Stevie recently recorded is not "My Heart" for all the reasons mike b. discusses, plus I would prefer a brand new track we've never heard before. However I've always been fond of "You Like Me", but I somehow think it would have been more potent if Stevie recorded and released when it was written right around the RAL era.

I was thinking the same thing, and agree we will probably have the option to buy extra bonus tracks through iTunes, Amazon & WB! The only downside for some is having to buy multiple copies of Stevie's new album, which I don't mind....It has been so long, and the bonus songs will be worth every $ in my opinion. :D

Dave or Mike said that Stevie pulled out an old Campbell track that she wanted to record, they brought in Mike and made it even better. So I believe that makes the Campbell/Stevie song fall under the category of unspecified era vault song. The other Campbell song they recorded was a newly composed track that Mike gave to Stevie, which he said she wrote a great song to that he was very proud of.

Wasn't there speculation that Everybody Loves You is actually on Dave's album and not Stevie's?

No. Dave confirmed on twitter Aug 14 that he and Stevie recorded another song as a duet on his album titled "Cheaper Than Free".

APerfectLie 08-26-2010 08:00 PM

I am going to say that the two Mike Campbell songs are lumped in with the 9 Dave Stewart songs since Dave has stated that him and Stevie only actually did 7 songs together.

sorcerer999 08-28-2010 04:14 AM

With the exception of TOSOTM, Stevie has always named her albums after a song title. Of the "official" titles that she has leaked thus far, I'm praying that NONE of them (while pretty titles for songs) are NOT the actual title of the record.

Italian Summer or Everybody Loves You just do not have the "Stevie feel" like Bella Donna, Wild Heart or TISL. Then again, neither did Street Angel.

Phil 08-28-2010 10:50 AM

Is it possible for anyone to post "I Miss You" (different mix)? I've never heard this version and am curious about it.

I'm hoping she pulls out a line from one of the songs or has a song title that is simply amazing.

First post edited to include songs mentioned in Rolling Stone.

starshine 09-02-2010 11:02 PM

Its nice to know possibly some of the song titles but wow....its like we almost know everything....though I guess its no different than back in the old fanzine days (for those of us that recall 'those' days) me included.....we all used to speculate as to what songs from the vault that would show up on the new record. Its fun to know but than yet sometimes I wish I didn't know.....it almost takes the 'fun' out of getting the new cd/LP and reading through it etc......it kinda makes me sad that 'those' I guess simipler days are gone........anyway, its just some thoughts.....and I just wondered if anyone else has felt this way??? If not its all good either way.........I won't stop reading the track listing thats for sure but I go hope for some unknown surprises too......Come on Stevie give us alot of songs on this new cd/(yeah and put out another ltd edition LP too like you did with CV)......have AT least 14-15 songs on the cd or heck add some extras like you did with SA (the Japan version had 16 songs on it--which I like many others here have)....that was 16!! which was way cool......have a beautiful LP/CD cover.....time will tell......make the most of it......:D:shrug:

Starshine, I completely understand what you're saying. When it comes to new albums from Stevie and the Mac, I think everyone has a different threshold for how much they want to know and how much they want to be surprised. For me, finding out song titles is fun and gives me a little taste of what's coming, but the songs themselves remain mostly a mystery. I think that's a nice balance. Also, Stevie herself has chosen to reveal these song titles by talking about them to reporters, so as careful as she's being about preserving the surprise this time, she apparently doesn't think that naming songs is doing much harm.

This time around, if the songs themselves leak, I'm going to do my best not to listen to them. I *did* listen to stuff leaked from TISL and SYW, and I found it took away from the excitement of getting the actual album a bit. It's just soooooooooooo hard to resist. But I'm going to try, and maybe Stevie will make it easier for me by keeping stuff under tighter wraps this time as she promises to do!

All that said, I'm happy to edit this post title to say "SPOILERS" if folks want.

Well, I would take threads like this with a grain of salt. As we all know, some fans can get a little wild with their imagination, to point where they start to believe their speculation is the truth. So there still will be an element of surprise when the album actually comes out - and that surprise will be how inaccurate and unreliable some of this early information turned out to be.

Jondalar 09-03-2010 10:40 PM

People keep mentioning songs called Cecilia and Lady from the Mountain. I found these on youtube. I have to say to say if Nicks puts these songs on her new album, the album will have a Tusk feel. Both songs are extreme mood pieces. The earliest Demo for Lady is a true gem, but the redone version not so much. Cecilia has a spanish and italian flare to it. It's extremely tusk and I think it would go nicely with her other Italian songs.

If she really using these songs, I'm going to get really excited, because these songs are PURE atmosphere and it shows she is going for a complete album instead of a bunch of singles.

Hi,

I'm just wondering if the song based on the film "Wide Sargosso Sea" has that very title? If you carefully read the interview where Stevie mentions it, she doesn't actually state the title of the song, only what inspired it. I could be wrong though.

Also, has the inclusion of the New Orleans Song actually been confirmed? I think David Wild's comments regarding vampires caused some people to think it must have been recorded but there's no evidence of this to date.

For the record, I have been thrilled with Dave's input as a co-songwriter and producer from the outset and I believe he will be sympathetic to Stevie's songs in every regard. However, I am concerned about the songs they have co-written being based on the "journal poems" and wonder how much thought has gone into ensuring these lyrics actually stand up in terms of quality? I've always admired Stevie's ability to "connect the dots" and merge bits and pieces of her poetry from here and there. Sometimes this makes for a rather cryptic lyric overall but I always prefer that to her more straightforward "stories". I am nervous about getting to hear "the whole story" as she puts it.

I sincerely hope Stevie has revised "The Solider's Angel" because the original poem it seems to be based on is wretched. She may as well be stating "I am a soldier's ipod programmer" or "I go down on soldiers and take their pain away". The cringe factor is unavoidable this time I'm afraid.

I truly think this album is going to hinge on whether Stevie can a) come up with great lyrics and b) if she can hit the spot vocally. She has all the support she needs in the shape of Dave but everything will ultimately rest on her shoulders.

I have been listening a lot to the "Trouble In Shangri-La" album lately and I am astounded at how great a lot of these songs are and how they have also really held up well almost ten years down the track. I think some of it is over-produced and certain songs could have benefited from more subtle arrangements ("That Made Me Stonger" comes to mind) whilst the rougher demo versions were in some cases superior ("Candlebright" and "Sorcerer"). However, it still is a strong set of songs and I think this is because she had a number of years to write and stockpile new songs. I just fear she may have rushed into things this time around but we'll just have to wait and see.

PS I like Shanks' production on the song "Trouble In Shangri-La" despite it's rather frenetic arrangement at times, but I would love to hear a stripped-back, perhaps even orchestral version that might closer resemble the demo version. I always thought the synth refrain in the chorus of the demo was so poignant and beautiful - it would be lovely to gently tease that out with piano and strings. Whatever the case, this remains a truly magnificent song.

I think the album is going to hinge on Nicks vocals. I bet they have some really good atmospheric songs, but if she can't carry them off vocally, it won't matter.

You'd be surprised what she can do in the studio versus what she does on stage. She seems a bit more courageous (I guess since she can rerecord if she doesn't like it). The falsetto on "Sorcerer" for example, as well as "Call On Me For Magic"...and for Fleetwood Mac's SYW album, I think some of her best vocals ever were on "Running Through The Garden". And recently, her harmonies on "The One" with V. Carlton were stunning - and really the only good thing about the song.

She's got chutzpah in the studio. I'm not worried about this album at all. Especially since she, herself, is touting it as the best thing she's done since "Bella Donna".

Why would anyone on this website be surprised at what she can do? We've all heard the same things. I guess it's a matter of opinion. My opinion seems to differ quite a lot from yours about some those vocals you say were great, especially Call on Me for Magic and Running Through the Garden. Although, I think she really tried.

It has nothing to do with chutzpah in the studio. Recording songs takes a long time because you go through several recordings of the same song. Many times, you spend hours recording just a few lines from the same song. Stevie probably needed several takes to get those falsettos in "Sorcerer" just right.

And it's not exclusive to Stevie. Think about the "reeeeeaaaach me" that Bono sings in "Beautiful Day." When you're in the studio, you have several takes to get it right. On stage, he doesn't try that falsetto, or at least didn't when I remember hearing him singing "Beautiful Day" live. On stage, if you try a note and you screw up, thousands of people hear it.

Of course it has to do with chutzpah. If you're feeling it, you're feeling it. If you're not, you're not. Stevie has been quoted many times saying she doesn't like to do more than 3 or 4 takes at one time in the studio. She said that anything afterward loses it's magic, so she'll have to stop and come back to it later. Yes we've seen master reels listing such-and-such song take #12 or #13 and so on...but I bet if take #14 made it on to the record, it was because she had come back to it after awhile, and was "feeling it".

And yes, Jondalar, everything I write on this forum is just my humble opinion. :)

Very true, I just finished the book, "Heart In The Studio" and as most people by now know while recording "These Dreams", Nancy had a cold but she recorded the vocal anyhow. A couple weeks later they back to finish up the track, she redid the lead vocal but the gravelness from her cold was gone. The producer really liked her original vocal better, in particular the line "every second of the night I live another life..." so he edited the two vocal takes together, keeping some bits from the original and some from the retake. The end result is a seamless blend of the two.

I'll be curious to see how many songs remain on the completed album. Early released reports listed "Violet & Blue" to be on "The Wild Heart", "Smile At You" to be on "Mirage", "What Has Rock & Roll Ever Done For You" to be on "Tango" and "Don't Treat Me Like A Stranger" to be on "The Other Side..." and there have been others. None of these ended up on the albums. So a lot can happen between now and what comes out.

Apparently "Cheaper Than Free" is going to be on both her and Dave's albums...

@DaveStewart. Where's cheaper than free on the double gatefold?

DaveStewart
@senatorsteved warners wouldn't allow on the gatefold as it was 4 months earlier than Stevie CD and that song is on both our CD albums

senatorsteved
@DaveStewart sure would of been nice as a promo but it must be a great song. Looking forward.

DaveStewart
@senatorsteved I agree but when she heard my version she said she wanted it on her record too and she's on warners !

Hope this doesn't mean we are losing a song off her album to fit this one in!
