Fave Stevie Duet?
'Whenever I Call You Friend' ~Kenny Loggins
'Leather and Lace' ~Don Henley 'Stop Draggin' My Heart Around' ~Tom Petty 'Two Kinds of Love' ~Bruce Hornsby |
Two Kinds of Love
|
Definitely Whenever I Call You Friend. Love everything about that song. and have since I was a child pretending to be Stevie with my hairbrush microphone.
I just Googled the song and see that I was 10 years old when it came out in 1978. Awwww. :) |
You forgot Too Far From Texas. But even if it was tere the only choice for me is Stop Dragging My Heart Around.
|
It's not listed, but my vote is Insider live.
|
I went with SDMHA, butI really love Twisted.
|
Hi Heartboy,
You do know you can add more options right? Maybe start a new one? Look at all these duets :-) Frozen Love (Lindsey & Stevie) Whenever I Call You Friend (Kenny Loggins w/ Stevie Nicks) Stop Draggin’ My Heart Around (w/ Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers) Leather & Lace (w/ Don Henley) I Will Run To You (w/ Tom Petty) I Pretend (w/ Sandy Stewart) Needles & Pins (Live) (w/ Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers) Two Kinds Of Love (w/ Bruce Hornsby) Love Is Dangerous (Stevie and Rick) (FM) Desiree (w/ Rick Vito) Twisted (w/ Lindsey) Too Far From Texas (w/ Natalie Maines) Circle Dance (w/ Vanessa Carlton) Note: I did not include "Nightbird" becuase to me, that is more of a "featuring Sandy Stewart", not a proper duet. |
"Whenever I Call You Friend" and it ain't even close.
In fact, I have many karaoke memories of singing this with a very dear friend of mine. I actually sang the Kenny Loggins parts while she sang the Stevie parts. And yes, she's a dyed in the wool Stevie fan. We didn't just sing it. We felt it. |
Had to choose the Logman (Kenny) and Stevie's raging vocal on 'Friend'
'Needles and Pins' might have gotten my vote, had it been an option. Really, my favorite duet was never recorded- she killed on 'Hotel California' w Henley on the 'Two Voices' tour and it's my hope that one day she and Don will do another set of shows and release it for home DVD. Carole King and James Taylor are cleaning up now on that good idea Stevie and Don had years ago. Maybe Stevie and Don can revive it long enough to film it and release a live dvd and cd. 'Hotel California' and 'New York Minute' never sounded so good as with Stevie singing prominently on them- she stole 'HC' away, no doubt about that. Excellent tour, but way, way too short. |
Aww, am I the only one who loves Leather and Lace
|
Travis, you got the makings of a great CD listed. I'd take Twisted from your list, and I'm voting for the Kenny Loggins on the listed vote.
|
Does Gold, with John Stewart, count as a duet? I love that song. Or Midnight Wind? Her vocals are white-hot on that song.
Gold, Midnight Wind, SDMHA, and Twisted are in my top 4 of Stevie duets, each one has something special about it, that just makes me love it. |

Oh, I like 'Leather and Lace' a lot. The airplay at the time of release was too intense, and I think everyone was itching for 'Edge of Seventeen' to become the real single. It was third, after 'SDMHA', then 'L&L'. 'Edge' was so clearly Stevie soaring solo, not needing Petty or Henley. Had 'Edge' been second, I think it could have been a #1 single. 'L&L' may have been a little bigger than it deserved to be, though very nicely written. 'Edge' as 3rd single suffered a bit (got to #11) probably because the album had already hit Number One soon after it came out. Who knows? But L&L was liked, for sure. And played to death! |
'Insider' and 'I Will Run To You'

I’m actually surprised that Leather and Lace has not dominated the votes. “Friend” was always an odd choice of a song to me that Stevie sang. Kenny Loggins, Melissa Manchester – eh, not quite Stevie … I do like the song – it just seems more fitting for somebody like Olivia Newton-John.

Does Tunnel of Love count? :p |
No, songs like 'Gold' & 'Magnet & Steel' and others alot of you are voting for are back ground harmonies. The 4 I picked are duets.

Gold is one of my favorite songs, if you can call it a duet.

If "Midnight Wind" had been on here, it would have made my decision a much tougher one. I LOVE that song. It grabbed me the first time I heard it.
Actually, I swear to God that song helped me salvage a decent grade in a class I was failing at university. The day I was supposed to do a final exam for this class I was playing that song on repeat and was getting in a relaxed frame of mind as I was getting ready to sit for the exam. Even though I needed an "A" on the final to get a "C" for the class, I went in relaxed with Stevie's wailing playing in my brain. Lo and behold, I read the exam questions and found one I could answer right off the bat. Since it was an English exam and I needed to write two essay questions, I picked the second one and began writing that since it was a question I felt most confident answering. Then I went back to the first part and found one I was reasonably confident in and began writing my answer to that. A few days later, I checked my grade online and discovered I had a "C" in that course, which meant I had gotten an "A" on the final. It's still the biggest miracle I've ever pulled off academically in an academic career full of miracles. |

Love her duet with Loggins!!
|
I had to vote "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around". And I probably hear it the most on the radio.
Lee :) |
And what about "Smiling Islands" by Robbie Patton? It's not a good song, but I love, love, love Stevie's vocal on it. And it's actually a duet vs. Stevie singing backup harmony.
|
^^Ooh, forgot about Stevie's gorgeous, fluttery, broken and choke-ya-up vocal on 'Smiling Islands'. Really beautiful, for me, it's similar but better to her vocal on the title song of 'Rock A Little'-- the voice on 'Smiling Islands' sounds so battered, but so perfect.

SO. i dont know if this counts as a duet; but i LOVE the insider with stevie and tom petty. i lovelovelovelovelovelovelove it!:blob2::blob1::blob2::blob1::blob2::blob1:

You guys can vote for whatever you love!! I think I picked those duets because they were hits! I noticed I picked 'Two Kinds of Love' and that wasn't a hit! (Blonde Moment) LOL There is alot of great songs to pick from so whatever you love the most. I'm all about love!!:D
|
From the list above..I chose Whenever I call You Friend... Though I guess I have to say I really like Needles and Pins and Insider... Does it count when she sings with Sandy? I love Nightbird and they sing the chorus together;) Can't wait to hear the songs on the new album...I think her and Dave are going to make a great duo!

I also like Rick Vito's voice a lot, but when that second verse kicks in, it always sends a little chill up my spine when I hear "Silhouette against a faded sky..." I think I have to go listen to that one now! :] |
