Stevie possibly singing on Heart's "There You Go Again"?

Over on the Heart message board, a few people were saying that it sounds like Stevie is singing on one of Heart's new songs off of their upcoming album. You can listen to it here, scroll down a bit: (There You Go Again) http://mog.com/deadmandeadman/blog/2214003

It hasn't been confirmed at the moment if it's really just Nancy or if it is in fact Stevie or someone else possibly. In my opinion parts of it really do sound like Stevie. What do you guys think?

sleepless child 08-11-2010 07:39 PM

sounds like Stevie to me. cool find.

kak125 08-11-2010 07:40 PM

ha i just posted this in the chit chat section! i agree in the beginning of the song it really sounds like Stevie but later on it sounds like Nancy. I guess the 3 of them could be singing on this.
i freaking love this song. i have been listening to it all day!

daniellaaarisen 08-11-2010 07:42 PM

If it is her, half of the Ledge will have their greatest dream fulfilled. For some reason we attract a lot of Heart fans.

Definitely could be Stevie though. Doesn't sound like Nancy at all to me.

I agree I have always wanted Stevie to do a song with Heart!! I think parts of the song sound like Nancy but very few of them.

Haha yeah I just saw your post! I agree that it could be the 3 of them since Nancy usually does backing vox on the songs. I didn't even notice the fact that it sounded like Stevie until other people were mentioning it and I really listened close. I'm surprised that if it is Stevie it hasn't been mentioned anywhere yet!

louielouie2000 08-11-2010 07:50 PM

That sure as hell sounds like Stevie to me!!!  :D :] Seems like if Stevie contributed to this album, SOMEBODY in the industry would have slipped up and let it be known by now though  God... the Wilson sisters + Stevie = I can die and go to heaven NOW!

RockAlot 08-11-2010 07:50 PM

Going to see Heart soon, Love me some Stevie and Heart, together would be so awesome~:blob2::blob2:

kokoro 08-11-2010 08:00 PM

That most definitely sounds just like Stevie. And all of those songs are fantastic! Now if they would all get up on the stage together and rock out (like that one off performance of What About Love), I would be in total heaven.

kak125 08-11-2010 08:09 PM

The more I listen to this song the more I think it sounds like Stevie. Its fantastic and it reminds me of a song that Stevie would sing too. I cant believe that Heart just switched out Never with What About Love at one of their recent shows. Now I really loved hearing Never live but I would die to hear What About Love!

Troddew 08-11-2010 09:30 PM

I don't want to get yelled at from the haters but I think it sounds more like Sheryl Crow - I can definitely hear how much it sounds like Stevie at the begining - but I also think we might have heard something about it on the nicksfix as well - and I think its an awesome song

Artemis 08-11-2010 09:54 PM

Wooah, that DOES sound like Stevie. I don't know if it is her or not, but whomever it is sounds just like her - at least, to my ears.

And, I have to say, I'm amazed how well Ann's voice (Not Nancy, I'm so not with it tonight) is holding up. It's not what it once was, but it's in better condition than, say, Debbie Harry's or Stevie's voices.

MacMan 08-11-2010 10:15 PM

Good song... Not Stevie.

Sounds abit like her, maybe about 10 years ago.

Definitely doesn't sound like Sheryl to me. There's still a high possibility it's Nancy Wilson, though. In fact, the more I listen to the song the more likely that seems. Heart hasn't ever been know to entertain musical guest stars on their albums either, have they?

I think Debbie & Stevie sound great now. Debbie's voice changed a lot during the 90s because of how much jazz she was doing. I'm a huge Blondie fan and over the past year she has been sounding better than ever & with a new album coming out, even reviewers from shows the past few weeks have been saying how great she sounds.

Stevie also sounded great in the recordings from the shows last week, so that makes the new album even better to look forward to!

No they really haven't. Ann's the only one who really did and that was on her solo album 'Hope & Glory'.

jeffd8382 08-11-2010 10:51 PM

I would LOVE to believe it is Stevie, since I'm also a big Heart fan... but I keep listening and am pretty convinced it is not her. I do hear the way it sounds like Stevie (particularly the first few "there you go again"s), but the more I lock on to those backing vocals, while trying to ignore Ann's singing, I hear what seems like a non-Stevie voice (particularly one of the later "there you go again"s... there's one in particular that's pretty convincing of this to me around 2:25 - the way the voice lilts upward a semi-tone on "go"). I think the holds on the "again" is what sounds very Stevie-ish. It really doesn't sound like Nancy to me either... perhaps just a guest backing vocalist. I'm pretty sure it's Nancy on that middle breathy section.

But maybe I'm wrong (hopefully I am!) and my ears are lying to me, but I just don't think it really is her.

EDIT: I've listened a couple of more times and I'm second-guessing myself a bit (darn those "agaaaaain"s LOL)... but I still think the way she slides her note upward on "go" for a couple sections later in the song really doesn't sound like Stevie to me, and at 1:19-1:20, you can hear the voice a little more clearly outside of Ann's and it sounds like another singer's voice to me. ... But maybe she's just doing something a little different with her voice that I just haven't heard before. So who knows!! We'll find out soon enough.

Please don't get me wrong, I still love Debbie and Stevie, and think they sound great now, I just meant that their voices have changed loads, while Ann's is still quite similar to what it was in it's prime.

Or something like that, it's 5am here and I'm like wooah tonight xD

Meowi 08-12-2010 12:41 AM

I think it's Stevie.

But is that a guy or a girl singing?

I don't know much about Heart

Meet Ann and Nancy Wilson:

http://www1.pictures.gi.zimbio.com/2...yIfh75Njol.jpg

Ann, on the left is the lead singer of Heart, and whose voice you're hearing on "There You Go Again." It's my strong suspicion now that her sister Nancy, (on the right in the above picture) is singing the Stevie-style backing vocal on "There You Go Again." I've been listening to the track on my laptop, on my headphones, and on my surround system. I'm pretty certain now it's indeed NOT Stevie, but Nancy. Still totally dig the song, though!!!

It doesn't sound like Stevie to me.

Heartboy 08-12-2010 04:53 AM

It's not Stevie! The Heart camp hasn't said a word and Heart fans have been keeping track of everything about the new album and Stevie has never been brought up. Some Mongers are thinking it's Sue Ennis. She did say she is on the album a little.

ButterCookie 08-12-2010 04:54 AM

Holy poo on a stick!! It DOES sound like her. Now I'm stopping listening because I wanted to save that for the release!

And I am going to quietly grumble about Debbie singing with the Jazz Passengers because she does this high thing with her voice and I know she doesn't need to. Of all the musicians I love, Christine and Chrissie Hynde have held up the best, I think.

jellyman10 08-12-2010 05:07 AM

Wow, what a great song! Heart have never really registered on my radar, apart from 'Alone' which got some airplay in the UK in the '80s, but this track really jangles ma bangles!

It sounds like SN, but probably isn't cos someone would've said.

Also reminds me a bit of Indigo Girls - anybody else like them too?

I soo agree with you! I just saw Heart for the first time ever last Friday and I was blown away by Ann's voice. She sounded amazing and I have to say the best live singer I have ever heard in my life! Amazing!!

And I'll have to second that since I saw them the night after you did. I was in awe.

Waaaait, Stevie sang on "What About Love" one time? Does someone have this?!

And it DEFINITELY sounds like Stevie singing on this song! Even more reason to buy this!

GypsyNikita 08-12-2010 12:04 PM

I don't think it's Stevie,

It's sounds like her at the start but for the rest of the song it doesn't

Yes she did, with Grace Slick as well! Someone uploaded this previously :)

After a quick listen I'm thinking it's Nancy. I once had a tape of Stevie singing with Ann & Nancy the classic song Kansas City. It was very cool, but don't remember when or where from, but it was long ago.

Ok I just listened to this song and I cannot figure out who is singing in what part of this song? Is Stevie third in the song? I gotta listen to it again - ha ha!! I should know this!

HejiraNYC 08-12-2010 03:44 PM

It's not Stevie. I agree that it sounds a bit like her during the first chorus, but the giveaway comes around the 1:09 mark when "Stevie" sings a very un-Stevie harmony on "...lowest low-oohs..." in which her voice breaks into a falsetto. Mama doesn't do falsetto harmonies.

Exactly, it's not. Give it a rest!

DefDumbandBlond 08-12-2010 04:18 PM

Well, it does sound like her and we don't have to 'give it a rest' if we want to talk about it or discuss the possibility of who it is. " " It obviously doesn't seem to be just Nancy singing background vox or else people on the Heart board as well as here wouldn't be talking about it.

I said that because the last few days everyone has been wanting to know this which is cool, I just wish the Heart camp would comfirm it. lol Are they playing with us?:]:D

not sure about that. doesn't she say , in DR, that she can do the high falsetto harmonies if lindsey doesn't?

Heh, I was wondering when somebody'd add that. Stevie has done PLENTY of falsetto harmonies, too. Her falsetto is her signature. Here are a couple of falsetto harmonies of hers that immediately come to mind:

Whenever I Call You Friend
Insider

For what it's worth, I still don't think that's Stevie on this Heart song, though.

Her "signature?" Your examples are from, like, 30 years ago, and even then I don't really consider "Insider" to be full of "falsetto harmonies." On WICYF, although she hits a couple of falsetto notes, I would consider that to be an exception rather than the rule; if anything, Kenny Loggins does most of the high falsetto harmonies on that song!

But what about something from the past 30 years? The only songs where she's cracked into a falsetto (none are harmonies) are:

"Sorcerer"
"It's Only Love"
"Dreams" (Deep Dish)
"Wild Heart"

I gasped when Stevie mentioned doing falsetto harmonies on SYW because it's simply not a Stevie thing to do. And at the end of the day, for whatever reason, it didn't end up on the album. I suspect it's not a particularly reliable part of her voice, especially since she has asthma (that or she smoked like a chimney for 15 years!).

Artemis 08-13-2010 01:15 AM

Even if it's not Stevie singing on the song, could it be possible that they tried to make it sound like her? I showed this to a friend, who is a far more casual fan, and she thought it was Stevie, and then she was buzzing over wanting the song, so it might be a very clever marketing tool.

Heartboy 08-13-2010 04:50 PM

Just to let you know someone from Hearts management confirmed that it's Nancy and not Stevie. :)
