Stevie and twitter

I really don't know what is going on with stevie and her twitter account. I'm not sure who is writing
to the fans stevie? karen? It seems the only person involved in this whole deal that seems real is Dave. And he just said that stevie will write a hand written message sometime today so that got me
thinking if all these people are dealing with stevie and are reading our posts then maybe now is the time we should start telling them how we feel about the setlist when she tours. Or maybe put the bug in someones ear about getting bella donna remastered or even her bella donna hbo concert
released uncut on dvd.

I want to know who it is so I know who the hell I've been trolling!

Do you think it's Clayton? How can we find out? Any cyber samurai around these parts?

I'm normally a cyber samurai but Twitter is one of those horribly tricky customers. I'll leave it to Dave or someone else to expose the tweeter.

I don't know who Clayton is, I'm thinking that's because I'm in the UK but if he's anything to do with Fox then it wouldn't surprise me if he was pretending to be Stevie until he got 'exosed' by Dave.

At first I thought it was Karen (see Hey Stevie... Hi Karen tweet) but even doubted that. I didn't for one minute think it was ever Stevie though  You can't tweet from a typewriter!

mike_nh 07-19-2010 10:26 AM

i don't care who it is as long as stevie gets the message that she needs to change her setlist.

Congratulations! You've won the award for the rudest post I've seen all day and I'm currently logged into 3 forums, 4chan and twitter!

Don't forget to collect your flowers on the way out!!

Is this what happens when you & other people take seeing her for granted? Ask a fan who hasn't gotten a chance to go to a Stevie or FM show yet and see how much they gripe about the setlist.

if you had to watch her unpassionately get through her set list you might .. some new stuff might perk her up

hey i love stevie just as much as the next person but if i'm gonna shell out over $100 for a ticket then
i don't want the same show i've seen countless times. It's not alot to ask as a fan for her to change it up a little. on the 98 tour we got garbo, sleeping angel, rose garden ect. so she can do her classics
but what bothers me is that tour after tour she will stick to a ''safe'' setlist and if she does throw
a new song in the set it's not hers..no one asked to hear face the promise or rock n roll.

I do remember a few years back someone said or wrote that waddy asked stevie to put bella donna
back in the set and stevie refused and her excuse was it was too hard to sing. Well i guess singing
random bob seger or led zeppelin songs are easier...doubtful

I despair :distress:

RockALittle250 07-19-2010 12:10 PM

I don't think it's Clayton and here's why:

Why would he be wasting his time, 15 months after he created the account, pretending to be Karen and answering questions about Stevie. Think about it, if this had happened in July 2009, a few months after the account was created, then ok, it would most likely have to be him. But why would he wait over one year to start now? And it's not like he's continually promoting himself. All last night, "Karen" was answering questions about Stevie, the new album and the tour. Would he really be wasting that much time pretending to be Karen when it does nothing for himself as self-promotion or notoriety for his own means?

Now yes, there is a tweet about some interview that he had done, but I think if that kept happening, you could say it was him, but to answer Stevie related questions 15 months after the fact to me does not indicate that it is he who is the imposter.

So, he is it? Well, I don't know, none of us do. But one of my theories is that this is a cleaverly designed PR tactic to get people talking about Stevie, her upcoming projects (the tour and album), and Dave's projects as well. Think about it, all the buzz and the back and forth has only caused us to become even more interested in this whole thing, and it has given Dave more followers on Twitter to boot...

Heh, +1 . Honestly, who really gives a damn if Stevie or her assistant are or are not on freaking Twitter?

SapphireSister 07-19-2010 12:27 PM

Alright fine, I admit it. IT'S ME! Yes, I hacked Stevie's twitter account.

You know I'm like totally joking...

CADreaming 07-19-2010 08:34 PM

Someone should totally bring Kathy Griffin up to speed on this whole Clayton Morris pretending to be Stevie and Karen on Twitter thing... she would have a field day!!!

MacMan 07-19-2010 09:27 PM

Twittergate

RockALittle250 07-19-2010 09:31 PM

Here's Clayton's responses to this fiasco:

@Nickslive "Someone gained access to the account. I handed that account to Stevie's camp well over a year ago."
28 minutes ago via Tweetie for Mac in reply to Nickslive

@Nickslive "I have NOTHING to do with whomever has been using an account I set up for Stevie last year as part of a bit during a segment."
30 minutes ago via Tweetie for Mac in reply to Nickslive

@realstevienicks "whoever is using this account please STOP unless you are a member of Stevie's staff. I don't want to be dragged into this."
43 minutes ago via Tweetie for Mac

@GoldAndBraid "I don't have her account. I gave that account to them well over a year ago. I don't know who has it and I don't have a paswd."
about 1 hour ago via Tweetie for Mac in reply to GoldAndBraid

IMO, It is completely unfair that he's being dragged through the mud over all of this. It was over a year ago, and now he's taking the heat.

Not that I give a flying ****... but it's MORE than fair for him to be receiving this heat. After all, he created an account for someone without their permission. He put Stevie in a corner by presenting her with it. This wouldn't have happened without him (not that it's a tragedy by anyone's definition). The only person at all who truly has a right to be incensed about any of this is one Stephanie Lynn Nicks. I just find the whole thing rather amusing as to why anybody'd give a flip in the first place?

You're right, he is to blame for creating the account. But, one has to question, why would he go on Twitter at this point, as Karen, to promote Stevie, if it has absolutely no benefit to himself?

Stevie's PR people must be loving this though...all they have to do is sit back, and watch!

Because some fans may have been misled and thought it was really her or her camp at least. The possibility did exist, since it was practically Clayton Morris' only focus during his interview segment and he reiterated it with his colleagues at the end. It wouldn't have been a big deal if whoever was doing the "twittering" had not been posing.

michelej1 07-19-2010 10:12 PM

The account should just be deleted -- if anyone can find the password to do that!

Michele

NOt to be redundant, but it is FAIR because he did something totally unprofessional, creating a twitter account for stevie with the name therealstevienicks. a) it was rude and b) it put stevie in the position of having to protect the twitter account from subterfuge, something she clearly was not able to do. it is his fault.

AND to add something to the conversation: it is still suspicious that the first post out-of-the-blue was to promote clayton.

Josh2003 07-19-2010 10:53 PM

My theory is that when he created the account, Clayton probably used something EXTREMELY easy as the password, like "rhiannon" or "stevie," assuming that someone in her camp would eventually change it, but never did.

A crazy fan probably easily hacked into the account by trying various Stevie-like phrases, and bam...access granted.

I'm not disagreeing with that. And yes, that is weird and suspicious.

But whoever it is now is pretending to be Karen, and quite frankly, that to me indicates someone with an intimate knowledge of Stevie and her activities. It's one thing to be a fan, but now, it's turned into someone who is a real "fanatic".

I just don't think he should have the wall fall down on him for pretending to be Karen. That's just my two cents.

*Edit: I just read back my last sentence, and realized that I meant he shouldn't get the blame for someone else pretending to be Karen. Obviously, if it were him, then fire away!

Any fans who thought Stevie was Twittering, or even charged her assistant with that task, have a fundamental misunderstanding of who she is. I'm sure the only reason Stevie even has an official sanctioned website is because Reprise somehow contractually demanded it as an unavoidable form of promotion. Stevie doesn't want to be associated with reality and everyday mundane life; Twitter and other social networking platforms are the most stark forms of mundane everyday life for the majority of the developed world as you can get. Stevie's whole schtick, as long as she's been famous, has been to take people away from such things, and into her little lala fairy land. Stevie Nicks doesn't ****ing Twitter, period! :p

If there is good to come out of all of this silliness, it's the fact we FINALLY have it from the horse's mouth that she's recording a new album!! :]

However, you have to think, many people were @replying and asking if it was Karen. Search some tweets and google and you can easily find out her assistant's name is Karen.

Lets talk about "a fundemental understanding" of who Stevie is these days...I totally agree with most of this especially the "Stevie Nicks doesnt ****ing Twitter" part and i dont think anyone in her camp has been given permission by Stevie . And Stevie doesnt or cant control Dave Stewarts internet activity. i do believe that all of his (Dave Stewarts)posts are true and acurate. I do disagree that Stevie's "schtick" for the majority of 'anything' would be considered "unassociated" ...it wasnt until her "sober" years that she wanted to disconnect with anything current or past...i recall interviews of 'past' where Stevie stated that she would do anything for "her fans" , and that the connection between her and her fans is/was 'unbreakable'.......but being a Stevie fan from 1983 ...to now, i somehow find that some things have changed...and i blame all of the change on her sobriety. She was a wild woman in the beginning of her carreer, 1970s to late 1980s all due to her drug use and since being sober she is not that 'wild woman' any longer, so alot of **** that she portrayed in the early stages of her carreer ...is no longer valid. And she is trying to escape from that person or the things she said...and has now become a traveling jukebox of her former hits. Her "legendary" status has been built on performances and recordings that were fueled by cocaine and booze. And i think she is trying to ignore that part of the past but still trying to cash in on the music part....i can go on forever but my point.....

but my point is....Stevie does not want to be associated with reality...or her wild and crzy drug filled past...or everyday mudane life...or her crazy ass obsessed fanatics...honestly i think we scare the **** out of her these days...but back in the day when she was crazy and wild it was all cool! now shes done with it, she put her stamp on the rock n roll world and now just wants the craziness to fade while she collects her check.

True - it's her "schtick". However, her "schtick" is also to make money - and lots of it - and she may have finally discovered in her very good business minded self that she can self-promote through these new avenues. And, she has used her own website to communicate, so she's not as put-off by the idea as she likes everyone to believe. Doesn't own a computer, eh? What about Karen's? Didn't she buy that??

I didn't need her to confirm she was recording, there was plenty of real evidence of that. But, here's hoping we actually get to hear it...

Side note: It could have been management or someone at WB or Liz Rosenberg's firm doing the Twittering. I don't believe it was some random fan hacker...

i don't know if i agree that she's "scared." I believe her when she says she loves her fans...from a distance. She held my hand like HER life depended on it at the B&N signing.

of course, maybe cuz she appreciated my money.
