Florence Welch sings The Chain!
Did anyone see this?
Apparantly, Florence sang 'The Chain' tonight at Glastonbury festival in the UK, but I missed it on TV. I'm hoping it pops up on YouTube at some point soon... Apparantly she mentioned her love for Fleetwood Mac and how influenced she is by the all of the members. If her clothes are anything to go by, I'd say Stevie was definately a major influence... Did anyone in the UK catch this performance? Or know where to watch it online...? |
Oh my god! :D That's SO awesome!! I hope it pops up on YT or BBC iPlayer :D
|
Oh my God. This really better show up somewhere!!
|
Also, how long have I been saying that Florence needed to cover an FM song?!

I think she'd do a kick ass Rhiannon or Gypsy too. With the harp and full string section that is The Machine.
|
Fleetwood Mac is also now a trending topic in the UK on Twitter
|
I'm glad you guys are excited - I couldn't believe it! My friend is there tonight and she held up the phone so I could hear it and it sounded AMAZING!!
This had better turn up soon; I NEED to see it! :blob1: In the mean time, I did find this little quote: "I'm pretty obsessed with Stevie Nicks from her style to her voice. I like watching her on YouTube and her old performances, the way she moves and everything." |

One more F+TM cover dream before I stop drooling...Edge of Seventeen. Can you imagine how dark and dramatic it would be? |
Oh hell yes! I think You Make Loving Fun could be good too but Stevie's songs would suit her FRIGGEN AMAZING voice best.
|
Speaking of Chris songs, I have this really weird fantasy of Tegan and Sara doing Everywhere. I try not to mention it in public.
|
I have to admit that I've not listened to Tegan and Sara but I'm going to now, just to see.
Genius thought... in about an hour, this Glasto stuff will be on BBC3 Player and I'll camstudio it and rip the audio :blob2: |

p.s - Edge of Seventeen would be so awesome. Imagine the wail! |
I LOVE Florence! She said she loved watching youtube vids of Stevie, she's just like us! (but with a really, really amazing voice)
I still can't get enough of her album, so good. |
Ooh, I can't wait to see this. I LOVE Florence, and I've always thought she would cover a Fleetwood Mac song well, although, I always pictured her doing Gold Dust Woman xD
|
Uh fill me in and I don't mean to sound ignorant but who the heck is Florence Welsh? Is she well, Welsh?
|
Welch.
She's from London She's the vocalist for Florence + the Machine :) |
Can someone post the videos for Howl and Drumming Song? I'm at work and youtube is blocked, but I think those two are the most accessible for new fans!
Also, if you watch the USA network at all, they're using Dog Days Are Over in one of their advertisements. I have no idea what the ad is for, though, because I watch USA at night when I'm falling asleep and only open my eyes when I hear the dulcet tones of Chris Meloni on Law and Order: SVU. |

She's the best thing to happen to music since 1989 I swear to god.
Howl doesn't have an official video but it's definitely my favourite off Lungs. |
Thank you, darling ^ Howl is my absolute favorite.
|
You should hear it live. My GOD. With a whole string section and 2 harpists right in front of you  talk about mind blowing!
|
Florence programmed the Australian music show Rage a few months back and chose a couple of Mac songs. She spoke of her love for Stevie on that occasion.

Florence just seems like a Stevie Nicks wannabe to me.
I'm not discounting her voice or anything because I do think she is great, but yeah, it just seems a bit like she's trying to *be* Stevie. |

Anyway, here's Florence + The Machine's performance of Heavy In Your Arms and The Chain. I'm currently ripping the audio. |
Wow, that was seriously pretty awesome. Her manic dancing in the end threw me off a bit but hey, as long as she's getting into it. :blob2:

mp3 audio of just The Chain :D

Sunday, June 27, 2010 Music Florence covers Fleetwood Mac at Glasto Sunday, June 27 2010, 10:28am EDT By Colin Daniels Florence and the Machine performed a one-off cover of a Fleetwood Mac song during their Glastonbury set.on Friday. During her performance on the Other Stage, Florence Welch revealed that 'The Chain' was her favorite song and that she was hoping the band would be there to watch her sing it, according to the Sunday Express. We hope you enjoy it Glastonbury, this one's just for you." The singer also allegedly fought back tears during a performance of 'Dog Days Are Over', saying: "This is a pretty big moment for me. Thanks for posting The Chain performed by Florence, that was So cool, its great when new talent like her appreciates the Awesomeness of Fleetwood Mac, she added a nice fresh vibe to this great song.
|
Oh my, she does have a very lovely and talented voice. However, the eccentric appearance and outfits already repel my brain from loving her. The wanting to be Stevie thing could be just because she was covering a Fleetwood Mac song, and it is hard to do so without portraying Stevie. But, I do see where the person who said that is coming from on that. Also, since 1989 many much more talented musicians have come along, and went...imo.
Back to this topic though, her cover of The Chain is great to me when I just listen to the audio  |

Anyway, thanks for the heads up on this, y'all. I always enjoy an old Mac tune interpreted through new lenses  |
I'm guessing she's not gotten to the US yet, but her dancing is what makes her... her. She's been diagnosed with various attention and coordination disorders which are the root of her 'crazed' performances. But yeah, if she'd not danced like a maniac when I saw her in May (or any other time) I'd have a) been extremely worried about her and b) asked for a refund on my ticket :p

-I think she kind of looks like a dude, especially the profile -Are her feet like disgustingly dirty on the bottom or is it just me? -That white-dovey looking outfit is heinous -I do not like her voice on this song but the band is tight! -Why does she keep insisting that they are NEVER going to play this again, like it's some great moment in pop history that can never be relived. -I do like some of the other songs posted but this isn't working for me. |
