Hello Bernd. I have a question. You would have been about 19 when "Save Me" was new. Do you remember hearing it on the radio? Did the German public generally like it?

On another note, welcome Bernd to The Ledge. |

BTW, viv, is that tumbnail pic really an ad for Tusk? And can you get that White Album ad where they think Lindsey is the girl and Stevie is the guy? |

Welcome! You'll have a great time here.

Wilkommen! Ich studiere Deutsch im Universität, aber ich bin nicht so gut. Vielleicht können wir irgendwann reden. Ich brauche die Praxis!
|
A fellow German!! :blob2:
Hi Bernd! I'm Louisa, 16, from the South West of our (beautiful) country. I don't post a lot here due to missing English skills but the Ledge really is a great place. I'm sure you'll like it, too ;). (Und Marissa, du kannst dich gerne auch bei mir melden, wenn du Hilfe brauchst :).) |

 well, actually, when I focus, i can translate some parts, though i don't know what "eigene" means, or "sicher", or "wunderbar", but this last one, in the context, is pretty obvious (i thought it had something to do with wonderbras before ). Vienna is a beautiful city, i've been there, but just for a day. Are you going alone ? Because then yes, you're gonna die ! I've been learning German since the secondary school, and now i'm in high school. Exactly 8 years of doing nothing. I've been in Germany once, it was awesome, the only words i used were "ja" and "nein", but somehow, i managed to have fun :) |
I think eingene means own, I know sicher means sure, und ja wunderbar ist wonderful :) So what I was going for was that I don't have a problem reading German, but that it's really hard to make my own sentences (for example, I'm sure this sentence isn't correct.) That is probably not what I said. Thankfully I'm not going alone; I'll be with an entire college class. I've never been outside of the U.S, so I'm really excited. My high school German was absolutely useless. In four years, I never learned half as much as I did in a semester of college.

Yeah, after reading it 3 times, i finally found out what it meant !, and i think you didn't make any mistakes (though i'm not the one who should tell you that). I had terrible high school teachers : one of them did a nervous breakdown, the other was a German cliché (big blond girl, constantly talking about the beer festival and yelling at us with her deep voice, with an accent..., good times). I finally decided to stop learning German, and college will be dedicated to English for me. Oh, and, when you live in the U.S, why would you need to go anywhere else? :p |
Welcome, Bernd! :) I work with a whole team of amazing Germans that I only get to see once a year, two of them are named Bernd!
I haven't been to Europe (I have student loans, and a lot of snacks to buy) yet but some time I plan on making a trip to Germany solely to go visit a specific yarn store in Pfaffenhofen, that's how awesome the yarn is. Welcome! :wavey: |
Welcome Bernd.
Now, tear down that wall. |
Hello,
I would like to thank you all for that nice and warm welcome here on Board. Best wishes Bernd |
All the German I know, I learned from KMFDM, Wumpscut, Rammstein, Einsturzende Neubauten, Rotersand, Die Krupps and similar.
Which isn't really good for conversations, like. But welcome to the Ledge! |

Thank you, I'm glad the English I post is wunderbar but there's still so much I don't know how to express in English, I feel just the same as you. I understand pretty much everything here but when I'm posting a reply I often have problems with writing own sentences. And since Germans think English is so much cooler than German there is no German word for "post". We just "german" it and say "posten". |

Alas, I don't know any other fans of those bands these days. Except for Rammstein, but that one's fairly common. |
Welcome to the room!! You should definitely enjoy it here!

I wish you posted with an accent. I love the way that German sentences have a really old English feel to them (haha, I know, I know, we developed a lot FROM you guys, so old English sentences really have a German feel to them), but, because my life is a tragedy, your English is too good to indulge me  Anyway, your vacation will be so much fun. I'm definitely planning on making an England stop when I'm in Europe. :D |
