Vanessa Carlton Comes Out as Bisexual

Singer/songwriter Vanessa Carlton is bisexual, she said for the first time Saturday at Nashville Pride, which she headlined.

"I've never said this before, but I am a proud bisexual woman," she announced to a crowd of 18,000.

Vanessa, who is known for her hit singles 'Ordinary Day' and 'A Thousand Miles' and has been romantically linked to John Mayer and Stephen Jenkins in years past.
Not a surprise, but I'm so glad she came out. I know, for me at least, it's so tempting as a bisexual to stay closeted because, well, you can stay closeted without much effort at all. It took courage for her to do this. Yay, Nessa :xoxo:

This just adds fuel to my fire that Ms Nicks is bi, too. After all, she and 'nessa are quite close. And let's not forget that weird quasi-sexual vibe Stevie and Sharon have always had going on, too .

But anyway, cheers to Vanessa for coming out. One of my ex's was bi, and he said it was 100 times harder than being straight... because it turned off both women AND men. Obviously, the more people who put a face on bisexuality, the more it will become accepted.

Vanessa being bi was interesting news. She was so pretty in her long gold gown I thought on Stevie's Gold Dust Tour. I don't think though for one minute that Stevie is bi. That woman loves men too much.

I'm not going to comment on Nicks

That's the thing. I always have to worry if the person I'm interested in is going to change their mind because of who I've been with in the past. It's never actually been a problem before, but I know someday it probably will be. Fun story, though. I'm in a bit of a situation with a Roman Catholic (and very, very serious about it) MIT frat boy. I was hiding the fact that I was bisexual because I'm kind of a terrible person about living what I preach. Anyway, little did I know that the frat brothers had already given him the head's up, so when I told him I was going to dinner with a certain friend in the city soon, his response was..."If she weren't a lesbian, I'd be so into her. I totally get why you guys dated. I just thank god you like boys, too." I was so proud of him :)

With all due respect, bisexuals don't like men any less than straight women. Trust me

I'm curious...it didn't bother you that the guys gave him a 'headsup'?

chiliD 06-21-2010 10:59 AM

Well, it would seem that being bisexual would double your chances for a date.

Not really. I honestly don't think it was like "heyyyyy guess what you don't know about Marissa," but more like "I saw Marissa's ex-girlfriend at Wellesley the other day. Still not that cute. Have you ever met her?" to which my new friend was like "...Marissa's ex-girlfriend?" and they just filled in with "Oh, you didn't know? She's bi. But yeah, that girl was crazy." They're all really cool guys, and for them, it's more just like stating a part of me than it is stating a scandal. I was just worried about my new friend because he really is very, very Catholic, and I didn't know how that was going to play out with me.

Thank you :)

In my defense, I really thought she was at the time  I've since been corrected. Actually, Daniellaaarisen felt the need to correct me the other day. Eh, love is blind, right?

What is that even supposed to mean?

I respect Vanessa for this :) It takes a lot of courage to come out and I'd bet my bottom dollar (if I had dollars) that being famous makes it ten times harder... oh... wait. Yeah, apparently that's been proved around here within the past 12 hours. If I could, I'd say to her "You go girl, you're an inspiration and I'm jealous that you've found yourself and are comfortable because it's something I'm yet to be able to do :xoxo:"

Why is everyone making such a huge deal about this? It was so obvious to me how badly she wanted Stevie...

By coming out as bisexual, Vanessa forces me to think of her in sexual terms. Where is the "vomit" smiley?

vermicious knid 06-22-2010 09:34 AM

Did you immediately begin imagining her having hard-core explicit lesbian sex? Because I really didn't. So maybe you were prone to having these thoughts before Vanessa Carlton ever "forced" you to do anything.

huh? Anyway, the only person who forced me to imagine that was you . . . just now.

I pity women everywhere that they have to join men in being potential targets of those infamous (she wrote a song about it!) mix tapes full of "the indie show" tunes.

Again, where is the "vomit" smiley?
