Rank Stevie's solo albums

So I think it would be interesting if everyone ranked Stevie's albums in order of their favorite to least favorite. I will start:

1. Trouble In Shangri La-This album got me into Stevie as a solo artist, rather than just a singer of Fleetwood Mac. Love Changes, Too Far From Texas, Candlebright, and POTU are my favorites

2. Bella Donna-I've grown to love every song. I used to dislike The Highwayman, but now it is one of my favorite songs.

3. Wild Heart-Sable on Blonde, I Will Run To You, Gate and Garden, and Nothing Ever Changes are my favorites.

4. The Other Side of the Mirror-My currently most played Stevie album. I overlooked it quite a lot over the years, but now I absolutely loved it. Alice, Two Kinds of Love, Whole Lotta Trouble, and Ooh My Love are my favorites.

5. Street Angel-Blue Denim, Destiny, and Greta.

6. Rock a Little-Ew. Minus No Spoken Word, Talk to Me, I Can't Wait, and If I Were You. Besides those 4, I detest this album. It's just not Stevie to me.

Artemis 05-29-2010 02:05 PM

1) Bella Donna - Apart from The Highwayman - which I'm warming too - it's flawless.

2) The Wild Heart - I don't like Gate and Garden, and Enchanted is very hit and miss. Sometimes this eclipses Bella Donna.

3) Trouble In Shangri-La - A brilliant return to form. A few songs that I skip, but I find I like them more - recently, I've totally fallen for That Made Me Stronger (Yes, it's an ode to Stevie... by Stevie, but there's something about it I love)

4) The Other Side Of The Mirror -I've been listening to it more recently, and there's a load of weird and wonderful shizz on here

5) Street Angel - I only REALLY like Blue Denim, Greta, and Listen To The Rain... and Docklands (I'd totally forgotten that one)... although Stevie Nicks singing laundromat and chimpanzee? This displeases GaGa (/meme)

6) Rock A Little - now this one changes, sometimes it's above OSOTM, sometimes even eclipsing TISL, but it's an incredibly uneven album and it frustrates me. We're going through a rocky patch at the moment, I'm in a not-liking-it phase xD

DefDumbandBlond 05-29-2010 02:20 PM

I did my list more-so which ones I listen to the most, I have my favorites on all the albums and some songs I could do without on them all. My top 3 though are definitely my favorites though. The last 3 shuffle around depending on what mood I'm in. :p

1. Trouble In Shangri-La
2. The Other Side Of The Mirror
3. Rock A Little
4. The Wild Heart
5. Bella Donna
6. Street Angel

GypsySorcerer 05-29-2010 02:24 PM

1) The Wild Heart

2) Bella Donna (Sometimes this is #1)

3) Trouble in Shangri-La

4) The Other Side of the Mirror

5) Rock A Little

6) Street Angel

1. Trouble in Shangri-la

2. Rock A Little

3. The Other Side of The Mirror

4. Bella Donna

5. Street Angel

6. The Wild Heart

As much as I loved The Wild Heart, which came out when I turned 18, and as much as I still love the songs, it is Stevie's most flawed album. I can listen to all 5 of the others and they still feel like albums, even those with wildly varying producers. But, for me, The Wild Heart is a just collection of songs (that I love) to be put on different Stevie compilations.

No disrespect intended. But I think it is by far Stevie's weakest album, even though many of the songs are her best.

discokandi7 05-29-2010 04:14 PM

1. The Wild Heart...only 2 songs I dont like here..Beauty and the Beast & I Will Run to you

2. Street Angel...My first Stevie Album

3. TISL - Nothing here I really dont like, but not as timeless as Wild Heart

4. Rock A Little - yes its very 80s but its fun

5. Bella Donna - Has some good songs, but too many ballads and too country sounding

6. OSOTM - about 50/50 on the songs on this one,

StreetAngel95 05-29-2010 04:51 PM

1. STREET ANGEL (shock, right? LOL)
2. Trouble in Shangri-La - i listen to this whole album and love every single song. Beautifully made album
3. Bella Donna - so many gems, and it's the closest album to Stevie's Tusk voice, which i love
4. Rock a Little (aka HAIR METAL STEVIE COMES ALIVE!) - love every song, but i have to be in a mood to listen to it
5. Wild Heart - i'm sorta picky about this album...not really feeling "I Will Run to You" or "Enchanted" or "If Anyone Falls" at the moment....
6. OSOTM - i never actually really listen to this album "back to front", i listen in single songs...

jedw 05-29-2010 05:06 PM

1. Bella Donna - Love the whole thing. used to not like after the glitter fades - but it grew on me.
2. Other side of the mirror - love Rooms, Alice, oh my love, not so keen on "Two kinds of love" though.
3. Rock a little - some great stuff but the production sounds a bit ridiculous in 2010
4. Wild Heart - I have never understood the appeal of songs like the night bird that just wander around and achieve ziltch. Stand back is none the less great.
5. Street anggel - I liked it a lot at first, but grew sick of 9 tenths of it, "greta" is a fun song, quite like "destiny".
6. Trouble in shangri - la - Sorry I hate this, her voice is messed up, her lyrics seem to have been written by a 13 year old girl, whats going on!?, and I don't like Cheryl Crow's influence. I suppose I quite like "Its only love" and "Planets of the universe" not much else.

Heresy I Know.

chelluversu 05-29-2010 05:23 PM

1. Rock a Little: This one is my absolute favorite. Every time I hear the beginning of If I Were You I'll imitate the drums lol (If I Were You, I Can't Wait, No Spoken Word, etc...awesome)
2. Bella Donna: Bella Donna was the first Stevie song that I heard, and then I heard the whole album (first love)
3. Trouble in Shangri-la: I randomly heard about this album when my fandom began. I love Sheryl Crow (don't know why others don't :distress:) and for some reason I thought they would be great together-- this was before I knew that they actually know each other lol.
4. Street Angel: I loved this cd before I knew that a plethora of people didn't =[
5. The Wild Heart: This is the one that I didn't love as much as all the other ones (omg I forgot about Other Side...opps :sorry:). But, I did like it.

skuncles 05-29-2010 05:37 PM

1) Bella Donna ~ Stevie's masterpiece. Oddly when this first came out my older sister had it and I hated it.

2) The Wild Heart ~ For years was my favorite, but it's settled into the #2 slot.

3) Trouble In Shangri-La ~ Almost a sequel to BD.

4) The Other Side Of The Mirror ~ This used to hold the #3 spot until TISL

5) Rock A Little ~ The album suffers from sounding dated and hasn't aged well. Still the album is special to me as it's the first album of hers I couldn't wait for it to be released. (I got BD and WH after they'd been around awhile).

6) Street Angel ~ A couple of good songs, the rest is forgettable. After a few months of trying to get into it was very happy to learn Stevie doesn't like this either. Was the first album of hers after becoming a fan in '84 that I didn't want to play again right away after the 1st listen.

skuncles 05-29-2010 05:43 PM

You know I think a lot of people's lists will depend on which album they heard first. I can't imagine anyone who got "Bella Donna" when it was released thinks that say "Street Angel" is better. On the flip side people who were introduced to Stevie thru "Street Angel" could very well think that's a better album than her earlier ones. Should be interesting to see where things fall.

i agree - SA was released the year before i was born, and the way i got into Stevie's records was thru a record exchange that didn't always have all her records in stock. SA was my second Stevie record - OSOTM was my first..

I don't get the hate towards I Will Run To You D= I think it's brilliant, Stevie and Tom's vocals, the lyrics, and the guitar! (At least I think it's the guitar)

The overall mood of the song... it's wonderful xD I don't get why people don't like it. I mean, I can get why people might not like BATB (Even though I love it) I don't get why I Will Run To You isn't that popular D=

I think it is because the "IIiiIIIiiiII will..." grates my nerves by the time it gets about halfway thru.

The Wild Heart

Bella Donna

Rock A Little

Trouble In Shangri-La

Street Angel

The Other Side Of The Mirror

Wild Heart - Mike was right though, a lot of it doesn't fit. But, Wild Heart, Gate & Garden, Sable On Blonde, Enchanted, Beauty And The Beast, If Anyone Falls are among her very best works. Stand Back is overrated.

The Other Side Of The Mirror - I think the style, sound and feel of this album was a natural evolution for Stevie. Alice, Rooms On Fire, Ooh My Love.

Bella Donna - I love so much of this. Bella Donna, Outside The Rain, How Still My Love.

Rock A Little - this is a grea

TISL
Wild Heart
OSOTM
Bella Donna
Rock a Little
Street Angel

For a long time, even for up to 2 years after TISL was released, I would have put Wild Heart at the very top.

1. Bella Donna - It's perfect. Period.

2. Rock a Little - This was the first Stevie album I bought. I agree it's an album I have to be in the right mood for. But when I'm in this mood it's great :D. Also it contains Rock a Little what is my favourite Stevie song at the moment. And I absolutely don't care that it's not aged well, to me it sounds amazing.

3. The other Side of the Mirror - This has really grown on me recently. It has some songs I still can't get into (Fire Burning, Cry Wolf, Whole Lotta Love) but as a whole album I play it even more often than RAL.

4. The Wild Heart - This used to be #3 but actually I've always thought the album was kinda weird. I like most of the songs (especially If anyone falls, The Wild Heart and Stand Back) but the songs don't really fit together. I haven't played the whole album in ages.

5. Street Angel - I never really listened to it. Perhaps my opinion about it would change if I did...I only really like 3 songs, Street Angel, Rose Garden and Greta.

6. Trouble in Shangri-La - This album sounds so terrible modern. I can't find the Stevie I love in it. There's no song I really love and way too much Sheryl Crow. I don't have anything against this woman but when I buy a Stevie album I'd like to have Stevie on there and not Sheryl.

Maxd9 05-30-2010 06:58 AM

1. The Wild Heart - I disagree about it sounding patchy or disjointed. This has always been my favourite Stevie album; I especially love 'Wild Heart', 'Nightbird', 'Beauty and the Beast,' and 'Sable on Blond'.

2. Bella Donna - 2 or 3 songs I'm not crazy about here, but on the whole, I think it's a really strong album. My favourites are 'Outside the Rain', 'How Still my Love' and 'Edge of Seventeen.'

3. Rock a Little - Ok, I do understand the criticism that this album recieves, but it just works for me. I love Stevie's vocals on this album and there's something really campy and fun here that I just adore. Favourites: 'The Nightmare', 'Rock a Little', 'No Spoken Word', and 'If I Were You'.

4. The Other Side of the Mirror - I've only recently got into this one. I think that this is her most patchy album, but I love most of the songs, especially 'Doing the Best I Can', 'Rooms on Fire', 'Long Way to Go,' and 'Ooh My Love'.

5. Trouble in Shangri-La - This one's hit and miss for me; I really like about half the songs, and dislike the other half. IMO, the production weakens some of the songs, rather than strengthens them. My favourites are: 'Trouble in Shangri-La', 'Fall From Grace' and 'It's Only Love'.

6. Street Angel - I do like Street Angel, just not nearly as much as the others. I think it's lyrically weaker than her other efforts (which is understandable). I still love: 'Gretta', 'Street Angel' and 'Rose Garden'.

Has anyone else noticed the similarity between Kate Bush's song 'Lily' to Stevie's 'Rock A Little (Go Ahead Lily)? I wonder if it was the inspiration for Kate's song...... I can't say I've ever paid close attention to the lyrics of Kate's version though so I don't know if it is similar in that respect or not. Music wise though it sounds very similar, but maybe it's just me.

I said that to you  It reminds me a bit musically, too.

Yeah I remember us talking about it, just seeing if we aren't the only ones.

The Wild Heart
Bella Donna -could have been number one if it wasn't for Henley ruining it.
Rock a Little
Trouble in Shangri-La
The Other Side of the Mirror
Street Angel

starshine 05-30-2010 01:41 PM

The first 2 on my list probably go back & forth some.....

1/Wild Heart--again I go between BD/WH cause they almost overlap really don't like I Will Run To You....All The Beautiful Worlds would've been awesome!!...other than that I love this period as well as her voice too!!!

2/Bella Donna--this one and WH are awesome times....just wish that Blue Lamp had been on it.....either way I love this period and her voice....

3/Other Side Of The Mirror--I'll always love Mirror cause well its when I started collecting Stevie stuff...so it'll always have that special place in my heart...Long Way To Go rocks...as does Ghosts and Doing The Best That I Can...Room's On Fire....etc

4/Rock A Little--too disjointed of an lp....too many Producers.....songs that were left off would've been better on this lp than what was picked to me....(or MM would've been cooler)?

5/ Trouble In Shangra-La--its ok but like others have stated too much Sheryl Crow for my taste...she's ok I do have some of her solo stuff but I do think it should be more Stevie than an Sheryl cd....

6/ Street Angel....loved the tour though...it was my first Stevie solo tour!!Some songs are good like I love Blue Denim....SA.....I do think the original Listen To The Rain from '91 was better than the SA version...don't like lyric changes at all....can live without some songs as well.....(Jane/Just Like A Woman.....)

gaga4rhiannon 05-30-2010 03:17 PM

Bella Donna- flawless
