Why is she doing these shows?

So why do you suppose Stevie is doing these oddball casino shows? My first guess would be it's easy quick money. More than likely the shows will be the EXACT same show she did on the Crystal Visions tour with nothing different (the shirts and everything will most likely be leftovers as well). I would love that there was a reason for the shows like trying out new material or just wanting to do songs she's never done or hasn't done on stage in awhile. I'm planning on going even though the tickets are WAY too expensive. But I am hoping for something, ANYthing new, but I doubt that will happen. The fact is I have to go knowing that Stevie is an hour from my house and what if she does do something new and not seeing it, that would suck more than seeing the same show all over again!!

StreetAngel95 05-09-2010 08:28 PM

Well, my first guess was always because there's the talk going around about the Dave Stewart/Stevie Nicks album. Maybe during a show, she'll debut a song. Like, Dave would be a surprise guest or something...then again, wishful thinking?

RockALittle250 05-09-2010 08:35 PM

I don't know if we should be trying to guess, at this point. We really have nothing to go off of yet, not even a mention from the good ole' Nicksfix. Obviously, we could speculate this is related to her new album, but it's hard to say at this point. Maybe, she wants to play smaller and more intimate venues for this album, because that's the type of album that it's going to be. I just wish Stevie would do an interview or something, so we would have something to go off of.

If you mean why is she being booked in casinos in general, then there's probably a lot of business/politics/promotion deals involved in that answer...

If you mean why is she doing it on a personal level in regards to anything new happening with her musically - yeah, I wouldn't get all worked up about it. Maybe she's just keeping the chops up for something later, but I doubt anything new or interesting will happen at these casino dates.

That's what I'm thinking. She's doing these shows to refresh her solo chops, maybe drop a song or two for this new album in the works into the setlist as a teaser, give her some wind in her sails, and then she'll do a full on tour when she's actually released the album. Contrary to popular Ledgie belief, I'm highly doubtful we'll see a new album from Stevie by this summer.

gypsy4life 05-09-2010 10:29 PM

I am going to firmly believe, it's simply so she can come near where I live, and let me see my first Stevie Nicks concert in person!!!!!

Mos def, this is the reason.

Jondalar 05-09-2010 10:45 PM

I hope it's because of a new album. Some people though have been complaining that $80 is too much to see her. I read a couple of comments on websites that she should retire. Other people though really want to see her but can't believe how much they charge.

Concrete Blonde is touring this summer to celebrate the 20th year of there release Bloodletting and they are only charging $35, ticketmaster gets $10 of that.

Anyway, I guess she knows what she is doing and stuff has been researched. I'm not going until she has something new to sing. I've seen her 5 times now, including last years Fleetwood Mac shindig.

P.S. I would hardly call Barbara Streisand or Tina Turner artists since they don't write the majority of their songs. They charge even more, so I guess Stevie can charge that much.

Well in Streisand's case she doesn't really "tour" just does a handful of shows. She has extreme stage freight and her shows are usually quite lavish with her and an orchestra. Tina Turner has retired so her last tour was her last tour so she was going out with a bang. Tina also sold out venues on that tour twice the size of what Stevie's been playing. Stevie can't fill the bigger places anymore.
It's just odd that on the Crystal Visions tour Stevie's top ticket price was $65, now two years later is $130. Even Fleetwood Mac's top price last year was $120. It's all about the promoter, they charge what they feel they can get.

LukeA 05-10-2010 12:12 AM

My guess?

She's of the mind to... wait for it... make some money.

Even gypsies need a little enchanted WAM!

there are only 800 seats, so maybe $60,000 minus all the expensus, not much money for a multi-millionaire

1) the AC venue seats just over 5,000

2) Trump Taj Mahal is paying her a hefty guarantee with an eye on the casino drop- not as much the ticket sales.

Yeah, especially considering she charges 4-5 times that amount for her corporate gigs. I think her doing these shows is for some other reason.

APerfectLie 05-10-2010 02:53 AM

Same reason as 2008.

That's kinda what I figured, but she could still change it up some if she wants to keep her fans interested. Too funny... Thanks for posting!!

SapphireSister 05-10-2010 11:34 AM

She needs something to do otherwise she'll be stuck in Phoenix knitting shawls all summer.

I would say because she wants to appear busy because she just said no to a new album with Fleetwood Mac. All it looks like to me is just her busying herself either to get some stuff outbefore she's tied to Fleetwood mac again or because she doesn't want to be tied to them and is proving something to someone now.

I saw Tina on that tour last year - for her 50th anniversary - and it was AMAZING!!

Although I hate to say it, its easy $$, logistically its pretty easy to put on these types of shows ....although there is talk of a new cd I doubt she'll actually do anything 'new'.....

Eh?? What?? My crystal visions ticket was a lot more than $65 face value. I think it was $125. Fleetwood Mac was $150 last year.

As to the original question, of course she wants to make money, plus I think she gets bored if she's not out on the road for at least part of the year.

michelej1 05-10-2010 02:20 PM

Given Stevie's track record, I think there would be more to question if she wasn't touring. These solo stints are routine.

exactly...unfortunately, her setlists, costumes, video imagery and between songs chats have also become routine. However, I do have hope that something, somewhere will be new and exciting this time around. fingers crossed

Macfanforever 05-10-2010 05:32 PM

At lease she keeps busy,so of these other artists hide for ages and peter out and drop off.To me I treat these tours as vacations it gets my out of my house a my job for week or two.I know the tickets prices are going up to the moon, but it would cost me more if I went on a cruise in which I would love to see her do some day on a ship.
I know the repeat of the setlists year by year as said on here gets old As the hills.and as we the die hard fans in the audience knows what the next song will be,yes it does get tiring after 7 plus shows, but I love hearing the tunes over and over again and I will continue to still support her if she does not produce a new cd.as I just realized as I'm typing this post ,She has not stop since 2003 that including the Tom Petty stint in 2006.if she goes out next year with FM for a country tour.oops,I'm sorry,Or what have you tour.Good for her at that age.As this mini Casino tour which I cant figure out why just so far 3 or 4 dates only set so far, again is it feasible for her and her crew to come east for not even a half a dozen shows.again it sounds like a last minute planning going on with this one,If the dates were set in late june and july she could of added the shed venues to the tour like Mansfield,Jones Beach,Holmdel,Camden,Scranton and so forth.I guess she rather stick with the casinos, which I dont see Las Vegas dates set.which that stop should of been added first.

I think there's several reasons...

1.) Cash.

2.) Loot.

3.) Moolah.

4.) Coin.

5.) Bread.

6.) Gold.

7.) Liquidity.

8.) Treasure.

9.) Increased Capital.

10.) The currency of the realm.

(I'd say we're pretty much in agreement! ..... )

Well, I don't think any of the above hurts, but Stevie really loves New York, loves shopping, and likes to keep the flame going with the east coast fans. Those that got to see her in Barnes and Noble saw how much she enjoyed the interaction. I may have missed it, but I don't recall her doing that on the West Coast.

skuncles 05-11-2010 09:38 AM

I just hope she throws in SOMETHING different. If all she does is continue on with the Crystal Visions show, then it's a basically a huge f*ck you to the fans. I've seen other bands go out and tour just because they wanted to (Dream Theater). In fact the tour was the "Getting Out Of The Studio" tour. It was a short tour, but it was a totally different set than what they had been doing just six months previous.
I would love Stevie to just throw caution to the wall and go crazy and do different songs, drop the moldy ones and just totally mix it up. She's said she loved doing "Beautiful Child" and "Storms" on the Mac tours and "Crash" on her own tour because it was a chance to do something new. Well do a whole new set of new stuff then!!

DashingDan 05-11-2010 11:38 AM

She's doing this very short casino tour for the free chips (not the potato kind, either).

I think she is doing these shows is she probably will play a new song or two off her up coming cd I think or its the same show we saw in 2007 and 2008. Or she is doing a private corporate concert in new york and decided to add a few shows in the area while she has the band there and make extra cash either way what ever her reason will try to be there always have been to me I am a big fan since I was 9yrs old back in 1979 now 40 yrs old still a big fan and have been going to her shows since 1986 rock a little tour so I hope to get a ticket for the foxwoods mgm grand show in CT. She can sing the phone book I am there. new cd or no cd will still her in concert if she is playing. Its a good thing to me to see her do these shows.

Well, I was trying to give a "practical" answer, but I have no doubt that Stevie has an absolute blast when she does these shows. (Including, by the way, hanging out with the band members; many of whom, I'm sure, she's come to love and feel as "family" towards, over the years.) Plus, as you said, the "East Coasters," and all the attractions that the East has; and getting a break from the West, etc. So SURE, I'm sure there's other, "less-practical" reasons involving having fun and her love for the fans, her band mates, and touring in general. :)

Afterthought: OH - and it's healthy! :D
