Original "Edge Of 17" Video??
I came across this video on youtube and wondering if it was originally supposed to be the videoclip for "Edge Of Seventeen"? Is there any place or anyone that has a HQ copy of the video. I kinda like it.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1b53...ext=1&index=62 thank you |
It is supposed to be the video. I have only seen it in this condition. It is something else that needs an official release!

I've seen it claimed so many times that this was "never released," "never played on MTV" etc. but I swear to God I remember seeing it. Not sure what the problem was. Maybe there was just some sort of dispute over legal stuff, or maybe Stevie or someone didn't like the way it came out (similar to the original "Civil War" version of "Stand Back"). But I do remember seeing it! :) |
Never seen this- thanks for posting!

I have one thing to say - BOUNCE Stevie, bounce! On another note, it looks like she's leaning over to snort a line before she picks up the doll at 1:26. And she's really got the devil in her eyes. Wicked!
O.k. last thing: At 3:33 the guy's saying "Stevie, it's time to part with your doll. Come on, you're all grown up now and a rock and roll star. You can't be carrying that thing around forever". |
i have had this on video for many many years. theres two versions. this one, and one that is just the performance parts (doesnt have all the other shots with the babydoll and of her and her brother) I also have alternate versions/edits of SDMHA, SB, IAF, and TTM. the quality of my video is alot better!

It's a bit... cheezy,
But what a great song! Maybe it didn't have the EO17 'haunting' feel that she sings it with? |
love this video version, stevie looks wonderful in it~

Danny Goldberg wrote this:
I got it into my head that I should direct a video for “Edge of Seventeen,” the third single. I felt that Stevie’s own environment, filled with cosmic drawings and knickknacks, and her own private flamboyance would be a great visual accompaniment to the song. Somehow I forgot that the most important thing about a video is how the performer herself looks. The cinematographer we got lit her in a way that was unflattering. The video itself was an amateurish mess and had to be totally scrapped. Luckily she had recently shot an HBO special and we were able to excerpt her performance of “Edge of Seventeen” to maintain her exposure on MTV. I had a significantly enhanced respect for video directors and never tried dabbling in their field again. The experience reminded me that it was the artist’s job to be creative and my role was to be their advocate. Although Stevie was irritated for a few weeks, she soon forgave me and never mentioned this embarrassing error in judgment. http://ledge.fleetwoodmac.net/showthread.php?t=37411 |

I love the spoken intro, it's neat to hear Stevie speaking her lyrics :D

P.S. - By the way, I think maybe there's "proof" that I'm not misremembering this; the video is clearly from a poor-quality video tape, presumably from taping it off the air when it was first broadcast. You can tell from the way it sort of "skips" at the beginning. So I really do think I'm right, this was on tv - it's definitely a puzzle for me that's fersure! |
I wonder how many tape generations this video got copied, before it got in our hands.ya I'd notice there was a glich {Drop out} at the beginning of the video.Since video is part of my livelyhood,Repairing equipment, shooting videos and dubbing them too.
to me the master or first copy tape, VHS or Betamax was badly beatin up by poor care of badly mantained vcr,Yes they get the munchies too,it got hungry and eatin' the tape. Also the speed of the original recording matters too,if was recorded on slp,ep or beta 3 speed, which these copies we see on here look like they were.Thank goodness when Stevie got the Standback Civil war video on dvd. anyway I hope there is a superclean master tape sitting somewhere in the archives. |
so about them videos...
(clears throat) lol:blob1: |

the vhs i have is pretty clean and clear. there are 2 or 3 alternate edits/versions of each video. it includes the civil war version of SB, along with 2 other edits of the classic SB video. 3 alt. edits of SDMHA, 2 for IAF, and TTM. and the 2 edits of EO17 (concept/performance edit and performance only edit) i think thats it. might have Insider video as well but im not sure. before each video there is info on the director, the dates, song title/artist of course, and what i assume are copyright/catalog numbers? i have the original edit for TTM on another tape which was put up on youtube awhile back. it was the edit that was world premiered on MTV (as seen in the clip). the quality only looks bad cause it was uploaded thru an ipod camera. |
my mom has a VHS to DVD recorder!!
