New Blondie Album "Panic of Girls"
Chris Stein has announced the name of the new album on blondie.net (which was just redesigned, btw!) and there are a slew of new concert dates; some solo, some w/ Cheap Trick, and some with The B-52's!
(there is also a small photo of the strange cover art, but nothing HQ yet...they say they are "working on it"....) |
I cannot wait to hear this new album, or to hopefully see them in the fall :blob2::blob2:

I cover's not still being worked on. As far as we know, it's finished and has been released. It's on the bands website quite a few times.
By artist Chris Berens. I'm completely in love with it! http://ll.ciscoeos.com/e/thumbnails/...humbnail_8.jpg |

I only saw them once - it was at the Atlantic City Hilton a couple years back. I got 1st row on the right side of the stage, but the crowd was HORRIBLE and my gf and I were told by security to stay seated... we were pissed!
But DH noticed us and came over to us a bunch of times when we couldnt take it anymore and DID stand. It was a similar situation on the left side of the stage as well; a bunch of fans over there as well... but sans about 12 people the entire audience was a bunch of high rollers who didnt give a sh*t about being there. DH did acknowledge us at the end of the show saying "it was great that some real fans made it out tonight" as she looked at either side of the stage. We DID get a stick from Clem and a pick from Paul and handshakes from DH, so that totally made up for the dud of a venue. |
I just put together a fan tour poster (Because the official one is pants) Incase anyone wanted tour dates :D

we sprung for the group meet and greet package for the Atlantic City show. I cant wait!

I haven't kept up with the personnel changes over the years. I know Nigel has been out of the band since the early 80's but the last I knew was that Jimmy Destri was still in it. But this knowledge goes back probably 10 years when they had their late 90's (?) sorta comeback. |
The other guys are Leigh Foxx (bass) Tommy Kessler (guitar) and Matt Katz-Bohen (keyboards).
Jimmy is still 'technically' part of the band but he hasn't recorded or toured with them since 2003 because of various reasons but the way his and their attitude is I don't think he'll be back with them. Frank, Nigel, Gary etc. decided to file a lawsuit against them when they got back together in the 90s because they didn't want the band to re-group without them included and then when Frank basically made an ass out of himself at their R&R Hall Of Fame induction ceremony they haven't been on good terms at all. |
The song "Mother" is about the NYC nightclub that was created by Johnny Dynell and Chi Chi Valenti which birthed Night of 1000 Stevies!

Is this album actually, finally, out yet??
|
Yes in the UK. :D US release is coming in September.

Matt is a little too out there for me, I really miss Jimmy! |
Yeah I think he's pretty much done with it, he's still legally connected to them in terms of getting royalties for everything. I can't ever see him recording with them again, he seems to be content with his drug counseling which is great. :)

Babakazoo have the album available for download for those of you who would like to Try Before You Buy

I found a download of this album and i am obsessed with it.
1. D-Day is very catchy and you have to go nuts during the guitar solo. You can hear the sarcasmism in Debbie's voice where she tell you how much you are " going to love it". And right before the solo where she screams "that was the day doctor no said yes" 2. What I Heard is another amazing song. It's solid the whole way through. it could have easily been on Eat To The Beat. 3. Mother- can't say enough 4. End to End- her vocals sound over produced but this track grows on you. 5. Girlie Girlie- best reggae song by them since Tide is High. Its a lot of fun to listen to. I've let 3 people hear this song all of them wanted the album burned after hearing it. 6. Love Doesn't Frighten Me- another great rocker from Blondie. After this song the cd for me seems to loose it's steam. 7. Words in My Mouth- takes a couple of listens to grab you, but it's just my taste. I prefer rockers. 8. Sunday Smile- is probably my favorite slow song on this disc. 9.Wipe Off The Sweat- is my daughter's favorite song it's entirely in Spanish and Debbie calling for her Poppi makes you want to salsa. 10. Le blue- is entirely in French and the music sets a great mood. You can forget this is Blondie and picture an old french film and this being the soundtrack. 11. China Shoes- great song. This bluesly rock song closes out the record and I wish there was one more sons on the record like this one. I'm not best reviewer but if you find the download of the album download it and buy it when it becomes available. I read there are 2 bonus tracks on one of the releases. I hope they are new songs. I'd rate this record better than The Curse of Blondie and better than No Exit, due to the fact that it feel cohesive. Blondie is staying in their comfort zone of experimenting and doing what they do well. |
Love the songs I've heard so far!
The video to 'Mother' is totally awesome, like for sure! ;) Debs as a Zombie? She makes me wanna be one! |
I saw them here in Boston a few years back and they were GREAT! I pulled a "Suzy at a Stevie concert" move and ran to the front at the end of the show. I was over 20 rows back! :D Debbie is amazing, her voice is still really solid and the band was so good. Of course, I never believed it was their last tour ever.

I really like the "Mother" Video. Good stuff. Haven't heard the rest of the new album yet though. I think Blondie is planning to announce a fall/winter US tour soon. Great Band.
|
Yeah they have a date for September in Canada so probably they'll be making their way to the US around the same time. :) Also it seems the album has a US release date for Sept. 13th (but subject to change as it hasn't been completely confirmed yet.)
|
Okay, who has seen Blondie on their current tour? I am tempted to see them at the Highland Ballroom (general admission) on September 13 in NYC; there's a special for GiltCity members- $83 for a ticket, early admission and a signed copy of their new CD. The early admission works for me since I can't wait in line all day.
|
Go! You won't regret it. :D
|
I've seen them this tour and like Kristen said, GO!! They've been doing a perfect balance of the hits and the new material. They're on top form.

I also heard that the german version contains two other bonus tracks that I have yet to see anywhere else so far. |

I remember tweeting that Ms Nicks should take note that new songs can be played and crowd will not go running for the hills and never come again, but in retrospect Stevie has been quite daring with this year's set list (apart from dropping In Your Dreams after the first night) |
The bonus tracks on the german release were "Sleeping Giant" and "End of the World". The latter is where the line "the excitement or the panic of girls" comes from and the former is a real timeless blast back into ETTB.
