Stevies new project

not sure if this is news yet and it is from wikipedia where anyone can write anything BUT it would be cool

"In late February 2010, David A. Stewart (musician and record producer, best known for his work with Eurythmics) revealed, using his Twitter account, that he was working with Nicks on at least four new songs, including one called "Everybody Loves You".[45] [46] A 38-second snippet of the song was posted on Stewart's Twitter account. He confirmed that he and Stevie are working on an album, and said that it is being done "in a very new way". [47] On March 16, 2010, Dave reported on his Twitter that he and Stevie are now recording songs together.

Thanks Shangrila - I found the thread and to say it has been discussed extensively is an understatement LOL:nod:

NO! No world tour. That's all she seems to do is tour. Make more music and then more music. Don't spend a year touring. She's at the end of her career for god's sake.

I have yet to totally understand what he means by (the album being) done 'in a very new way'. Any opinions??

Maybe QUICKLY??? ;)

Maybe technology makes it 'new'?

Me either... but at least it's something different from Stevie. We've all been bitching and moaning about how she never breaks the mould and tries new things... and here it's looking like she might be doing just that! I like the idea of there being a violinist present, I know that much!

mikebise 03-27-2010 05:34 PM

Isn't there a violin in "My Heart"?

I'm excited for Stevie to be doing something NEW!!!!

I like the idea of this and here's why. If this album is purely Stevie, and only Stevie, once it's finished she will leave Dave and go off on her own and revert back to 20th century promotion for it. With Dave onboard, the whole way, right next to her, he will push her into the 21st century with diverse internet promotion ideas (as we know, he EMBRACES Twitter!), cool music videos, and he will provide an additional name that, along with her own, will create more interest, buzz and recognition, ala Robert Plant and Alison Krauss' "Raising Sand". And also, isn't it kind of like a Fleetwood Mac album anyways, since with them Stevie is also not solo and is collaborating, and i am sure all of the songs will not be duets.

Fantastic points, all of them. Though I'd prefer a solely Stevie album, I *really* like the idea of Stevie breaking from her norm, and working with wholly different people in a wholly new way. As conservative musically and career wise as Stevie's become this past decade, I've gotta give the girl props for stepping outta her comfort zone.

Although I liked the thought of a Stevie & Dave album at first, the more I think about it, the less enthusiastic I get about it. If this was a conventional Stevie solo album (produced by Dave), I don't think we should automatically assume that Stevie's going to just go out and do radio shows and TV shows. I think Dave's involvement, especially since it seems likely that this album will be released on his label, would automatically guarantee that it will be promoted using the latest media innovations regardless of whether it is a Stevie or Stevie & Dave album. Another thing that concerns me is the fact that Dave is not really very much of a draw. Don't get me wrong- I loves me some Eurythmics. But admittedly the main draw, in fact, the ONLY draw for me is Annie. Dave is an okay guitarist. Dave is an okay producer. Dave is an okay songwriter, although I have to admit that I didn't like the last Eurythmics album or the newer songs written for the Best Of collection a few years ago. Dave is a terrible singer, and his vocal contributions on Eurythmics albums have been thankfully minimal. Dave just doesn't have a built-in fanbase like Stevie. It can be safely assumed that any excitement over this project would be due entirely to Stevie's involvement, not vice-versa.

Yeah, about that. Dave Stewart's production style is so outdated, he makes Lindsey seem like The Neptunes.

Stevie Nicks New Music: Clues on Stevie and Dave Stewart CD - Ever since Dave Stewart released the itty bitty snip of the new song "Everybody Loves You" recorded with Stevie Nicks, there has been a lot of speculation... 15 hours ago ...

If they're putting out a CD together, it's a good bet that they'll probably tour together. Dave might not be exciting, but neither was Don. We still got that exhilarating Hotel California moment when Stevie emerged. It will be great to have Stevie come out on one of Dave's songs like that -- not to mention to have her do new material in concert. Even if the CD doesn't turn out good, a fresh concert experience is worth the price of admission, all by itself.

Plus, the new promotion, interviews, photos that RockaLittle mentioned. With all that, it really doesn't matter if the album is mediocre. There's still a lot to celebrate and anticipate.

I'm pretty certain that Dave only is producing some of Stevie's solo album, not all of it, and feel more certain that it is not a 'Stevie and Dave' album.
It's Stevie sessions that Dave is producing. Whoever twitted, tweated. (twatted?) myspaced or (what was it!?!) was the only source to say it was a 'Stevie and Dave' album. It doesn't make sense, imo. I dun't believe it!
Why did Ricky Ricardo say 'DUNT' for don't?? How would he pronounce 'Can't?'
Oh, never mind.
It still wun't be a Stevie and Dave joint album. Nyet, nyet, nyet.
To my ears, the little we've heard of 'Everybody Loves You' is no duet, it's solo Stevie with a nice male harmony. nice, but generic. Dave's a great producer, but if she were recording a duet album, it would be with a 'star'- like Henley, Petty, Bono, but not the Annie Lennox guy. I know he's more than that. But it still ain't gonna be no duet album. He ain't on her level. It ain't happening that way. Ain't true.
I have now used the word 'ain't' more in one message than I have ever spoken it in my life!

wildheart048 03-28-2010 04:44 AM

Whatever it turns out to be, I am excited for it!!! I CAN'T WAIT!!! (and speaking of - with Dave producing...there is a possibility of some of it being dance worthy again...that would be cool!!!) :blob1:

Like I keep saying... at least Stevie is doing something different. Her pulling out the Dave Stewart card was pretty unexpected to me. Doing a duo album with someone like Petty or Henley, as much as I like both of them, would be treading water in my book. Even though they've boinked before, I'd still say Stevie is stepping out of her comfort zone to do this... so kudos to her! I can't say I like the sound of Stevie and Dave's voices together, but all we've heard is a snippet of what in my opinion is a very rough demo. I'm very open to this whole new chapter... and am looking forward to seeing how it develops!

Yes... I think twice after an all night coke binge in '86? Apparently his encounter with the fairy princess wasn't welcomed by her entourage, and inspired the Tom Petty song "Don't Come Around Here No More," which was co-written with Dave.

Yes, Dave admitted all of this in a radio interview in the last few years actually.

Given La Nicks's 25 year history of changing producers and using numerous producers on her solo albums at this early stage I would not worry too much about a new solo album being dominated by Dave Stewart.

Very good point indeed! I don't mind the idea of Dave being the man behind the curtain, but like many Stevie fans, I can say I'd honestly prefer he stay there vs out front. I keep wondering if this whole thing is just a decoy anyway. On the snippet of the song Dave posted, his voice appears layered on TOP of Stevie's... like something an amateur would do. They aren't singing together at all. And people keep calling this "a nearly finished song..." but to my trained ears, this is clearly a rough demo we're listening to. I guess we'll just have to see what the next chapter holds.

I think it's also really important for Stevie fans to realize we have no confirmation from Stevie herself she's working on a record. Everybody is so aflutter, making predictions she'll be done before summer, etc... but I think those are highly uniformed opinions. Anyone who has followed this woman for nearly two decades (or more) like I have knows Stevie is flakey, and never ever works quickly. I just don't want to see a bunch of heartbroken fans if this whole thing turns out to be nothing more than Stevie recording and stockpiling demos, like she's always done.

I think a lot of Eurythmics fans feel the same way about Stevie. Many will probably complain that Dave is working with Stevie instead of working with Annie on another Eurythmics album, so on all sides, not everyone call be pleased with whatever Stevie or Dave does.

I disagree with you about what Stevie's motives might be. You might be right about her just stockpiling demos, but i just don't think that's the case here. Dave is a very busy and still in demand songwriter and producer, and i think if they were just working together for Stevie to put more reels into her closet, he won't waste his time. He's the kinda guy you call when you want to do something and put it out there. And the people she's also been hanging out with (like Glen Ballard and various photographers and producers) make me think that she must be working on something, because when she's not working on a project of some kind, then Stevie is usually a homebody. I do agree with you tho that we shouldn't expect this project, whatever it is, to be released by around the summer, because if we expect that then we will all probably be disappointed when it's not.

I have followed her for over three decades.I think the last 6 or 7 seven years have been different in that save for the Katrina song she has gven no indication that she has even been turning her writings into demos at all.The fact that she is now doing that and apparently in earnest is the reason for the excitement on here.I also agree with the poster who mentioned that it doubtful she would have enlisted Dave Stewart f she were just stockpiling demos. It does appear that she is at last on the move creatively.

Nikolaj 03-29-2010 02:26 AM

I don't think it was a 'demo' that we all heard. Dave isn't working with Stevie on demos. He's producing her. Demos she would have brought with her or given to Dave before they started working together. It was, I believe, an unmastered studio recording, no demo, of 'Everybody Loves You'. A major producer doesn't work on demos, someone else would have 'produced' any demos. That was a rough 4o seconds or so of of what we'll hear.
I'm still surprised some people think it's a Stevie and Dave duet album.
And I never meant that she should record a duet cd with Bono or Petty or anyone else. I only meant that she'd be more likely to work with a 'name' -than not, if she were going to go off and record a duet album. It's a Stevie album.*
*except if it isn't.

no way. I'm almost as hardcore a fan of the Eurythmics as Stevie. No one want Dave's vocals on a record (sorry) :p He did a great job on his first solo album, Spiritual Cowboys, but on the whole 'we' prefer him firmly BEHIND the scenes (where he truly does shine)
