Pick A Song To Upgrade

So I have this amazing opportunity to choose a song to be upgraded and obviously it's going to be something Stevie so please request one song you would like to have improved sound quality. No promises but I'll try my best to make it happen.

mikebise 03-23-2010 04:39 PM

"Thousand Days" ~ Rock A Little outtake, the fast full-band version with the saxophone.

bellagypsy79 03-23-2010 04:41 PM

"All The Beautiful Worlds" That's my favorite. But if that one is impossible, then I would like to have better sound quality on the first complete long version take of "Smile At You".

holidayroad 03-23-2010 04:45 PM

'I Call You Missing' or 'Straight Back'

nicksphan 03-23-2010 05:34 PM

China Doll or Christian (a/k/a Spinning Wheel )!!!

Maxd9 03-23-2010 05:36 PM

Christian or Smile at You, please.
Thank you!
x

Ditto, please.

Are you guys referring to the Smile At You angry demo from 82' because the Mirage outtake I have is pretty good quality.

Edit: Oh is it the version that's longer and not so angry?

That's the one I was talking about. Mine's really bad quality and it's one of my all-time favourite demos. Would you be able to post it anyway?
Thankyou so much!

mikebise 03-23-2010 05:53 PM

"What Has Rock and Roll Ever Done For You?"

"She Still Loves Him"

I'm at work so I don't have my files here to post but check this one out on youtube. Sounds pretty good to me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7BwmeqkIFo

Also, not that this is new news or anything but someone tell me why the angry version is SO MUCH better than the SYW version? I think most people would agree with that but it's really quite obvious to me. Maybe she's just not that angry anymore and the background vocals on the chorus with Lindsey singing sucks. If they were going to add a new chorus it should have been much stronger. :distress:

priestofnothing 03-23-2010 06:06 PM

Jimmy Come On Back - only because no good quality version has ever surfaced anywhere.

or I Call You Missing, same reason but that parts of that song has evolved into others.

mikebise 03-23-2010 06:21 PM

The Say You Will version of "Smile At You" is an abomination!

First off, Stevie wrote it on piano, and the piano is very important in the Tusk and Mirage versions. Stevie also thought the bass was important, and there's the fascinating studio Master where, when JMcV refuses to play the song in 1979 because he thinks it is too nasty and bitter, Stevie begs him to play!

LB wiped away piano and a strong bass presence on that hideous SYW atrocity. Plus, his own vocals are now the chorus of Stevie's song, rather than her voice. Ick!

LB recorded the song while Stevie was on tour with TISL and she merely laid down the vocals much later ~ she didn't produce the track.

No wonder she hates the production on that album. ("Silver Girl" was also butchered, based on the far superiour demo of Stevie's that is played in Destiny Rules.)

IMO IMO IMO

Ahem to that....I couldn't agree with you more.......the angry Smile At You will always be the best!!! IMO too....the raw emotion alone....makes it special.....

nailatixela 03-23-2010 06:47 PM

Chanel, Chanel!!!!

I ditto Jimmy Come On Back since, like Chanel, Chanel, we don't have a clear copy. China Doll, IMO is pretty clear now but it is one of my all time favorites.

MariaA37 03-23-2010 08:26 PM

I've got two tough ones. The alternate version (music and lyrics) of Rooms on Fire and the song that we know as Mystical Love (NOT the piano demo of Rich Old Lady). Someone, somewhere has to have clear versions of these.

I'm going to second Jimmy Come on Back or Christian :xoxo:

Nathan 03-23-2010 08:54 PM

City of Hope.

Nikolaj 03-23-2010 09:09 PM

I'll ditto or triple or whatever vote for "JIMMY COME BACK"!
There must be another version around somewhere! Or clearer, or both!

Hmm. If SN's "peoples" see this, relay 'Jimmy' should be on her next solo cd, OR to rework it and call it 'Christine Come On Back', put it on the solo cd (out this year, please!) and watch it spur Christine to return to record a new Fleetwood Mac cd in 2011!

City of Hope of Mabel Normand

drzubritsky 03-23-2010 09:38 PM

I would love to get a finished mix of the studio version of "Gold And Braid". The master reel outtakes have great resolution, but Stevie's voice is way too low in the mix...I think a proper mix of the vocals and potentially combining the best elements of the various takes could produce a killer studio version.

vivfox 03-23-2010 10:20 PM

Running Through The Garden or I Call You Missing.

jkmaletic 03-23-2010 10:36 PM

I vote for "Not make Believe". That song was great as a demo, and someone really F-ed it up on SYW.

make it happen! Good luck! :wavey:

Meowi 03-24-2010 01:20 AM

I want 'Mirror Mirror' :D

GoldDustBoy 03-24-2010 03:02 AM

For years I've been dreaming of having a complete, clear Sable On Blond demo. The RAL Running Through The Garden demo would also be great.

Artemis 03-24-2010 07:53 AM

If You Ever Did Believe, I think I have a demo from around Rumours-Tusk, she sounds young on it.

Or Running Through The Garden, naturally. My favourite Stevie demo. xD

Hi Mike,

What is this from? Is it from one of the reels? If so, what else is on the reel? It's bugging me that I don't remember hearing this!

Thanks!
- Jim

mikebise 03-24-2010 09:16 AM

Hi Jim,

Yes, it's on one of the talking Masters Reels with "Smile At You". Stevie has to convince John to play because he does not like the song. But she stresses how important the bass intro is to the song. He finally relents.

Not sure which Reel it's on. I only uploaded Stevie's songs to my computer. Everything else is still on CD and I'd have to search through those, but we didn't have that many talking Reels, did we? It should be easy to find. I have the dozens of CDs we got in a nice holder at home.

(I remember the group discussing this "Smile At You" impasse in several emails... I think...)

equeen102289 03-24-2010 11:08 AM

I want Jimmy Come on Back.

Some people are mentioning Christian, China Doll, Mirror Mirror, etc... and the versions I have are already very clear.

mikebise 03-24-2010 11:15 AM

If it's possible to improve the sound for "Jimmy Come On Back", then that's my vote 100%!!!!! No other song comes close! Except "I Call You Missing"! ;)

But if the sound is too far gone, then I still vote for "Thousand Days" and "What Has Rock and Roll Ever Done For You?" to upgrade to near perfection.

SapphireSister 03-24-2010 11:55 AM

O.k. guys help me out here - it seems like Jimmy Come back is the front runner right now but I'm listening to it on buckinghamnicks.net and it sounds pretty darn good to me. Tell me what needs to be improved. My hearing maybe ;). I don't have my cd version to listen to right now since I'm at work but as I recall it sounds just like this one.

Nathan 03-24-2010 12:12 PM

Sax Thousand Days or City of Hope.

Or start a poll.

Yeah, I'm gonna vote your hearing.

mikebise 03-24-2010 12:34 PM

I have never heard a clear "Jimmy Come On Back". The only worse sound quality is "I Call You Missing" to my ears.

I am going to start a poll but I wanted to wait and see what I should nominate before.

Nominate City of Hope.

Phoenix 03-24-2010 01:56 PM

Straight back, city of hope, or Annabelle lee

nailatixela 03-24-2010 01:59 PM

Am I the only one for Chanel, Chanel, or do I just have a bad copy? It sounds worse than all the other TISL session songs. Annabelle Lee and others mentioned are already fine sound qaulity.

mikebise 03-24-2010 02:15 PM

Maybe you have a bad copy? Although not as perfect as the rest of the TISL songs, "Chanel, Chanel" sounds a thousand times better than:

"Jimmy Come On Back"
"Straight Back"
"Love Don't Fail Me Now"
"She Still Loves Him"
"The Charmed Ones (Song For The City of Hope)"
"Thousand Days"
"I Call You Missing"!!!!!!!

Here's a version of I Call You Missing that I have. The quality certainly isn't great, but it's better than Jimmy Come On Back. Let me know if this is better than the version you have.

I Call You Missing
