What Do You Do To Get Back Into Stevie/Mac Hardcore?

In the past, we've talked about the various cycles of Stevie fandom, and right now I am kind of in one of those lulls in the fandom. I'm kind of wondering if it seems to happen in the Winter, and then kind of comes back in the Spring- I don't know. That's just me thinking out loud.

But ANYWAY- when you are in a lull in the fanhood, when you're not listening to Stevie all that much, what do you do to kind of get back into the swing of things. I'm wanting that feeling to come back soon, because it always inspires me to write new music and such, and it's just a beautiful thing.

ButterCookie 03-19-2010 10:27 AM

I go for like a solid 7 day week without listening then put either Bella Donna or Mirage on the turntable (Strictly no mp3) and bask

David 03-19-2010 11:26 AM

Meet up with fellow ledgies in your area & have a giant Stevie Nicks party, with tambourines, candles, and long nets of white.

wheart 03-19-2010 11:46 AM

I just wait until it returns, and it always does eventually. You can't force it.

SapphireSister 03-19-2010 12:03 PM

See her live (not that's it's an option right now but it always works for me). Also, download and listen to stuff you've never heard before. Check out some stuff on the demo request thread.

StreetAngel95 03-19-2010 02:44 PM

if you're me, wait until you're home alone and then BLAST "EDGE OF SEVENTEEN" IN YOUR BEDROOM AND SING AND DANCE LIKE A MAD MAN!!!!!!!

......yeah, usually works...

GODDESS6 03-19-2010 02:55 PM

don't know, my fandom has NEVER waned~

tilthefirefades 03-19-2010 03:36 PM

Mine did at one time for about a year, and it was sad. I just didn't want to listen to her, or FM. I started listening to heavier rock, mostly Manson. And for about a year nothing worked to get me back. But it eventually came back, stronger than ever and it hasn't went away yet.

RockAlot 03-19-2010 03:44 PM

Its nice to walk away now and then, I hadn't heard Belladonna for a long time (mainly cause it really skipped allot) but recently bought it new and really enjoyed hearing it again.

Nikolaj 03-19-2010 05:19 PM

"What Do You Do To Get Back Into Stevie/Mac Hardcore?",wrote the excellent thread-starter, excellently.

I come to The Ledge. It keeps Stevie and Fleetwood Mac more alive and vital. With many years between new music, we can come here and find a 'Call On Me For Magic' or promise (and proof!) of a new song like 'Everybody Loves You' and get a lot of insight from others who have the same (apparant) passion for the music. Since I was a kid, I wondered about the 'is that what you want' 1980 Mobile version of 'Rhiannon', bam, almost 3 decades later, last year, it was here on The Ledge. I was blown away by it.
There seems to be many of us who 'found' Stevie and Fleetwood Mac when we were teenagers or pre-teen, and it seems many of us are in our 40s and want to hold close what really made us megafans in the 70s and 80s, and maybe (?) confirm that we were right...Stevie was amazing, the band was incredible. 'Space Needle?'-- The Ledge. Her brilliance is showcased and appreciated here in a way we don't get with 'Dreams' every tour and the few chances taken and little new material released. The killer out-takes...The Ledge.
People share songs and in the past year the quality of the songs themselves and the clarity of sound have been staggering, and much better than the boots many of us hunted down since the beginning. The version of 'If You Were My Love' ('on and on and on and on') which I believe was the Mirage out-take was a revelation to me. So good. She sure was singing it, and as someone else pointed out, she was fearless back then in her vocal approach. Others here liked the SA out-take version, which I had heard before and liked less, but whatever, The Ledge keeps us, and Stevie, and Fleetwood Mac not just a memory, and not just waiting. Even 'Unleashed' seemed like a memory, the way the tour all worked out. I enjoyed the show I saw last year, but it didn't compare to everything that has been shared and learned on The Ledge.
I wrote a better version of this an hour ago, but when I was finished writing, I was made to relog in and lost it all.
It is also interesting to read messages here from those who are really young, who have such interest in Stevie and Mac and really have a lot to offer, and often write excellently. Some weren't even alive way back in the 70s and 80s!
So, as ever, as always, of such few words and so very briefly yours,
Kol.
Thank You, Ledgies!

i either watch "Gypsy" video..i still remember wen they "World Premiered" this on MTV!! wat a moment!! Orrrrrrrr go to YouTube and watch Stevie sing "HAEWAFY" on Letterman...one of her BEST live performances of this song..the "Enchanted" promotional guest appearance...and last..pull up"Think About Me" from Tusk...this was a heavily rotated song of theirs played A LOT back in 79/80 (but NOT overplayed) and it reallllly bring me back..i have always looooved this song cause it is so simple but it captures raw FM at one of their finest 2:44 minutes...now i wanna go listen..so perhaps i shall...try this..i think u will agree

You know it!Nothing works better than "a charmed hour&a haunted song"I'm partial these days to the live Crystal Visions version,of which I press the "repeat" button for&then proceed to let it crank out for well, about an hour or so.LOL!

exactly.
i have been a fan so long, i tend to get burnt out from time to time...i go weeks, months with no desire to hear any Mac. (i have NEVER grown tired of Stevie solo) Then out of nowhere i will crack a bottle and put in the Mirage concert dvd, and BAM! the Mac is back!

chelluversu 03-19-2010 08:36 PM

When i began listening to FM/SN it was truly exciting because i was receiving a bunch of new info and music at a constant rate. The steady flow of info and music stopped when i knew almost every song and detail. When I saw Stevie in concert for the first time (Clarkston, MI June 15 or 16 in '08) I was completely taken again. When nothing is happening for a long stretch of time that's when some interest is lost. The interest always comes back whenever something happens; I bought Crystal Visions and found out that there was a dvd that came with it five months after, Stevie Nicks' birthday announced on Entertainment Tonight (lame lol), the Lindsay Lohan thing, Soundstage, All I'm Saying Is, reading a book or watching a movie with an unexpected FM/SN reference, the Unleashed tour, blah...This forum does help with my interest level (at first it was the Buckinghamnicks.net site and Stevie-Nicks.info) and has begun to become just as distracting as Facebook is.

If it don't fit, don't force it. Enjoy the respite. There's some relief in letting go and in all the free time that will open up as a result. Move on to other things. Then, a year or two from now, if the Mac spirit hits you again, it will feel all the more fresh and fervent because of the time you spent away.

Oh, Louie, I saw LB's hat and 8:20 in your link and thought 'that's gotta be Mirage 'Sisters' but I doubted myself and thought maybe it was 'Not That Funny' and clicked on it, and, oh yes, 'Sisters'.
I've only said it a hundred times, but I was there that night at the LA Forum when it was filmed. I was 18, had a lousy seat but the concert changed my life. Even the official home-release of that concert obscured one thing- the applause and crowd reaction at the end of 'Sisters' was deafening. The floors shook (I was up in the nosebleeds)- I thought it was an earthquake at first. The entire Forum, from down front to up high, had an event that we all shared, and everyone felt it and knew everyone else did, too. The Sisters ovation was endless. AND LOUD. The entire concert was beyond words, I think it's the best version of 'The Chain' that the band ever performed, Stevie's voice was supernaturally charged and gorgeous to behold. I wanted to forget about college, I wanted to live nothing but Fleetwood Mac 24-7 (Hey, I was only 18) and it is forever a part of one of the most exciting nights of my life, maybe one of the most exciting three nights of my whole life and I'm old now. In fact, only 2 perfect nights of when I was madly in love, same person, a year and a half later, really top what the Forum concert gave to my heart that night. It was so perfect, it almost would have been a perfect time to die. Soon I'll be kissing 45 goodbye. That really sucks. But being young in LA in 1982, I don't know that I'd trade it for anything. I'm glad everyone loves the clip. I WONDER why the audio was so edited out, I am not exagerrating- the entire Forum SHOOK- the walls shook, the floors shook, the audience went so crazy.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! The Mirage Concert (especially SOTM) will always be the pinnacle of all things Mac/Stevie to me. I would give body parts to have been there! Unfortunately I was just a newborn in '82!

(snip)

Seconding Louie - thank you for sharing that. Brought a total huge smile to my face. Wish I could've been there, too - the Mirage show has some of my absolute favorite performances, from SOTM to The Chain to Rhiannon and Tusk.

Even though Stevie's vocals through much of "Rhiannon" are pretty rough and haggard, it's that explosion at the end - when she yanks the mic down, crouching throwing out those accusatory fingers, "Oh, baby, you don't change and I don't change and you don't change, Rhiannon, I know that I don't change and you don't change and it's all the same, Rhiannon" - that cemented for me the fact that I wanted "all the same all the same all the same" tattooed across my shoulderblades.

Back on topic - my fandom doesn't wane, really, but I do go through phases, both with Stevie/FM and my other fav artists, where I will listen to someone pretty much non-stop & exclusively for a while and then switch again.

I never heard you tell this story before. I enjoyed everything you wrote. I saw 2 Mirage concerts and they were good. But this show blew my 2 shows completely out of the water!

Thanks guys- it's just one of those things, you know, that comes and goes. And it's always sad when we're in kind of a fandom lull, but yes, it does always come back heavy. If my thinking is correct, it kind of comes back in the spring/summer- as it gets warmer!! Fingers crossed! :)

I agree with you Ethan. I don't listen to Stevie most of the year. But I always take her to the beach with me. Blue Water, I sit and I wait for the morning to come.

ButterCookie 03-20-2010 03:15 PM

As well as what I posted earlier, I just watched about 4 hours of Stevie concert footage straight. I've been waning on Stevie a bit lately listening to a lot more Christine, I'm back on an equal track now.

I think I'm actually doing this in the near future... Simply because it would be totally awesome in the most nauseatingly predictable, Dani-esque way possible.

I typically just need to listen to "Angel." There's something about that song that is ALWAYS loveable.

Where?

What's going on?

My wall ... needs ... something. But I can't decide ... just ... what.

BellaDonna93 03-20-2010 07:24 PM

I'm in that period now...I have to tell you that.
It's embarrasing and it's sooo sad :(((
I can't say it's gone, but I've started to listen to Stevie/The Mac more less...
It's much because of school, then when I'm at home I eat and sleep, and the school next day agan...
Then Fridays I rehears with my metal/rock band and listen to Metallica...

Inside my body, I'm crying..when I think of Stevie.
I have had times like this before but not this long...
Stevie, I'll never leave you and Ledgies, I'LL NEVER LEAVE YOU EITHER!!!!
I love you and always will, deep in my heart.
I want Stevie to continue making records!!!!!! That can make me come back to where I've been in 2 years...a hardcore Stevie fan, that I still am and always will be...<333 I promise.

No, that's why I mentioned prayer earlier- a joke. Anyway, lots of folks on this board are young and maybe this is a normal response?

I saw that. And I responded, but not in ten characters. That was funny though.

gypsy4life 03-21-2010 03:59 PM

I've not had this problem yet......

fleetwoodtrick 03-21-2010 04:53 PM

For a little while this year, like when I discovered Green Day's older music and really started getting into them for a while, I just didn't want to listen to anything else. What really got me back though, was this master reely thingy that had a pretty clear quality Goodbye Baby/The Tower piano demo on it. And thus, I am here on the Ledge again

But I'm not gonna lie though... these days I tend to listen more to Green Day than Stevie and FM. Perhaps because it's newer and fresher to me, but who knows. Also the fact that they're really active, touring, recording, and updating fans right now that it makes it easy for me to follow them.

But this Stevie/Dave Stewart thing is getting me interested. I don't like the sound of this "departure" thing though.. it makes me want to cry. :/

Agreed. I'm not always on a Mac high and I've even felt guilty about it in the past -- listening to other artists and getting excited about their music.
But the rediscovery is always totally exhilerating for me, and well worth the wait :)
