Pale pink satin worn out in a week...
Seriously, WTF does that mean?? Is that some sort of euphemism? :o
|
Ballet shoes. It's ballet shoes.:blob2:
|
I always took it to mean that she sweated so much under the hot lights that she had to throw her clothes out after each week. Remember in the early 1990's when she was in trouble with the IRS? She claimed $85,000.00 worth of leotards ruined on the stage in one tour.

Ballet shoes don't hold up very well---it's a major expense for ballet companies.
|
speaking of stevie & ballet shoes...does anyone else find stevie incredibly sexy doing ballet in the 'tusk' docu?~ i have always found that scene sweet yet very sexy:thumbsup:~
|
I was never sure if she meant ballet shoes or satin sheets.....

?" :] Seriously though, for those of you who don't know, professional dancers can go through several pairs a week each and for full-length ballets those shoes might last through 1 performance if they're lucky. |
I'm going with underwear since the next line is "but she loved you the most".
After all, this song is about "hittin' it". In other words, tapping that booty! Go ahead Stevie, hit it! (it's about time) |

I always thought the lyrics were literal. Since Stevie wrote the song in Fall 1981, I assumed she was talking about that pink leotard she wore to death on the Tusk tour. There're only, like, 7000 photos of her in concert wearing that thing.
She's talking about hitting the stage, touring, so ballet shoes never even occurred to me. And Robin went on much of those tours, Robin who was Julia and Stevie was Lily. Julia was urging Lily to get out on the stage, no matter how tired and weary she was. Too literal? |

I think the next line is telling:
Pale pink satin worn out in a week But she loved you the most To me, the lyric seems somewhat sexual or at least suggestive. Like, "I have run around and "danced" with some people this week, you are the one I love the most." |

According to the lyrics in the liner notes, the line is supposed to be 'But you loved you the most'. I misheard it, too. I thought it was 'When she loved you the most'. (That made more sense to me) |

SapphireSister, but did "hit it" mean the same thing when this song was written? Michele |
I've always thought it was also about a pink shawl that she wore on stage during the Tusk tour also. She wrote RAL before she wrote BD ....I recall in one of those record interviews the hit it means to get up on stage and perform....I know its from a RAL interview I think with Jim Ladd in '86 sorry I can't post it either but maybe someone else can?.....So besides it being about the waves rocking her home at the time it was about performing on stage etc.....of course theres many other things too that she's said ......I just don't feel like listing all of it now.....anyway....hope this helps?:D

To me, the line "But you loved you the most" was about Stevie being selfish, choosing her career over lasting romantic relationships.
So, rather than whine, she better go hit the stage, because this was what she chose to do at the exclusion of everything else. No time for crying, the crowd awaits. I never thought this song was about any man or any romantic feelings. It's one of Stevie's touring songs. |
I'd like to add that I think it's "one 'a them STEVIE metaphors."
She's saying that sometimes in her experiences, things started out as beautiful and fancy but got "worn out" so quickly she couldn't believe it. And maybe that sometimes she felt that way about herself too - - - a soft fancy "fabric" that got "beat up" (by fame, the rush-rush of the road, etc.) in a very sudden way. She's like, "Hey I just JOINED this band!!! We've been on the road HOW long!?...... " |

"Rock A Little was also written before Bella Donna came out...and I've had most of the song ~ in fact, I mean really the entire [singing] sometimes it rages that was about the ocean you know ~ that ~ like shook my house and scared me to death every night ~ 'cause I thought it was an earthquake. [Singing] Rock a little/ Even when it's calm the house still shook a little/ Just like the sea I rock a little/ Some say it was just like me ~ Rock a little. That mean's cool out. Relax. Okay. Just rock a little all the time and you won't die". Huh? |

 Stevie's tax deduction claim about how her clothes were ruined each night was a hoot! If the IRS checked photos and video footage of the various shows around that time, they would have seen that she was wearing the same stuff throughout her concerts. Tsk, tsk, Stevie. |

When Stevie wrote "Rock a Little", I think she probably meant for the song to be about a character, Lily, who is a dancer; with the song being full of "hit the stage dancing" lines. When she was writing the line "pale pink satin" she probably literally had ballet shoes in mind, however, also knowing that the line has sexy connotations. As for the "hit it" line, my first impression was not a sexual reference, but a drug reference. Am I the only one who thought that? |
Of she's talking about ballet shoes. What else would a "rock and roll ballerina" wear?
|
I was thinking of something else. South of the boarder, down Mexico way. You want sexual, there it is.
 |
