Alice in Wonderland

I took Sara to see Alice in Wonderland 3D last night. This is an absolute must see. I want to go spend another $25 and see it again today! Johnny Depp played an awesome Mad Hatter, and Mia Wasikowska did a wonderful job playing Alice. I'm not going into details, but has anyone see it yet?

chelluversu 03-14-2010 11:01 AM

I just saw it yesterday with my two best friends..i actually did like it but it was sooooo different from the movie that i had on tape when i was little. I love that dance at the end if only i could do it lol

I think I'm gonna watch the cartoon sometime today. I don't think Sara remembers it!

chelluversu 03-14-2010 12:32 PM

She should like it..i think both are incredible.

There was a video game for alice that came out a while ago that was completely different from both of these movies. In the game, alice was the only one who survived this house fire and she is trying to escape or something idk but the game is creepy lol

American McGee's Alice! I loved that game. Set in the same universe, but takes place a while after Through the Looking Glass.

I just wikipedia'd it..i haven't played it in sooo long and now i miss it. The cat is what i remember the most because i use to have dreams about him lol.

I finally saw the film. I give it a 7 out of 10. It wasn't great, and it wasn't bad. Tell ya why... The fact that Burton put his "American McGee" spin on it was fine; I found the idea of going back to Wonderland more appealing than a remake of the Disney animated film.

The problem with the movie is that you almost feel like Alice's reason for returning to Wonderland is moot. Sure there's a villain, and what happens to her in Wonderland is a parallel for the decisions she's facing in her own "real life"... but the follow through on bridging them both falls a bit flat. Also, I think it was missing a lot of the "weirdness for weirdness sake" that many Tim Burton movies (And the original Alice in Wonderland) had/have. The final battle (10 minutes) of the movie felt completely unnecessary as well.

So how IS a raven like a writing desk? . . . .

(P.S. - I THINK I know the answer, but I'm not sure.)

mylittledemon 03-14-2010 07:08 PM

Because Poe wrote on each of them.

YEP, that's apparently one answer. :)

(It turns out, though, that Carroll originally intended there to be NO answer. I just did a little digging on the net; and several different sites said that that was the joke - some riddles DON'T have an answer. But people bugged Carroll so much about it that he eventually wrote in an introduction to a later edition, "Because it can produce a few notes, though… they are very flat; and it is nevar put with the wrong end in front!"
(Look at the spelling of "nevar!" :) ) Like mentioned above, another answer that has been proposed is,
"Because Poe wrote on both."

The answer I had come up with is,
"Because both can fly!" ;)

The 3D was horrid.....most of the effects were blurry. They filmed it in 2D and transferred it to 3D, making it all wrong.

The storyline and acting were par. What bothered me the most was Johnny's makeup. Why didn't they powder his neck, too? It annoyed the crap out of me to see his white face and regular skinned neck. ugh.

Just a word of advice: never ever ever see it in 3D unless you want the movie to **** up your eyes..I learned that with Avatar. This 3D movement is the next T-Pain =\

I think they were trying to make Johnny look crazy because the Hatter is crazy.
I had an aunt who had "issues" so she would draw on her eye brows-- thick like a clown-- and sport orange lipstick. We can't explain all things lol

ButterCookie 03-15-2010 10:11 AM

I'm going to see it on saturday and I'm really looking forward to it... apart from the 3D. I did tell the girl who was booking tickets that 3D hurts my eyes but it was too late. Eh well.

It's not suppose to **** up your eyes. If it does, it's not right.

IMAX 3D didn't screw my eyes over!! It was... INCREDIBLE!! I loved every minute of it! And I couldn't help but squeal at the great big stonking Stevie refrence, when Hamish says to Alice, 'Maybe it's best to keep your visions to yourself' all the while she thinks she's having bad DREAMS :blob1:

mylittledemon 03-20-2010 04:51 PM

I don't think that was a Stevie reference, but okay. ;)

After 2 bottles of Coke, a few weeks of excitement and two bags of sweets, it was a Stevie reference :p I did get on the train thinking about it too, and all I could hear was my Media teacher saying 'Everything is constructed' in my head, it wasn't coincidence, it was there for a reason, Stevie or not :D

mylittledemon 03-20-2010 05:03 PM

Nah, probably just the two colas and the bag of sweets. I can tell you're dangerous on sugar. ;)

ButterCookie 03-20-2010 05:04 PM

Just a bit  I was that excited about it I went straight to HMV and blew £15 on Stevie live in Chicago. My wallet squealed.

mylittledemon 03-20-2010 05:14 PM

That's okay - put me on a bag of gummy bears and I'm going to the moon. ;)

I just did some digging - they swiped it from one of the "Waverly" novels by Sir Walter Scott. I think maybe poets who read a lot are quite familiar with the line... ;)

ButterCookie 03-20-2010 05:36 PM

That's all the under 20's that go to see it then :p It's a shame that it's not a Stevie reference though :(

I'm with you. Alice was a completely unsympathetic character- for Harry Potter fans, she was Luna Lovegood without the redeeming strengths of loyalty and intelligence- and the white queen was, if possible, worse. I did love Johnny's Mad Hatter and the cheshire cat, but without those two, the film would have tanked.

What's SHOCKING is that the film has grossed over 250 million bucks in America.

That may be world wide. I think the US gross is about 80 million not counting DVD sales.
