Lady Gaga: single and celibate
By Sophie Eager and Tina Sims
Mar 2, 2010 Lady GaGa, the beautiful pop star and performance artist known to shock with her revealing costumes says she is currently single and celibate, according to an MSNBC report. In fact, Lady Gaga has said she is a traditional person and considers herself "quite the lady". The 23-year-old star, whose real name is Stefani Germanotta, posed topless for a new interview and photoshoot with UK magazine Q. She said: "Well, I believe in certain institutions: cooking, serving dinner, taking care of my family. So I consider myself quite the lady." The singer later broke down in tears and cut the interview short after admitting that she has struggled with her image and her record label over the years. She said: "The last thing a young woman needs is another picture of a sexy pop star writhing in sand, covered in grease, touching herself. My image was an issue at my record label. I fought for months and cried at meetings. "I got criticized for being arrogant because if you're sure of yourself as a woman they say you're a b***h, whereas if you're a man and you're strong-willed it's normal." http://www.nationalledger.com/artman...72630656.shtml |
Boo freakin hoo. What won't this girl say or do for publicity??

Unless you think I'm talking about the "arrogant" comment. The way she drones on and on about herself and her "visionary" fashion and lifestyle is proof she's arrogant. :p I don't know if she can decry sexism in the music biz either. Women rule the music scene. They routinely outsell the boys in concert tours, album sales, and grammy awards. If somebody in the industry called her arrogant or a bitch, she's probably just that. |

Don't get me started. Not only is she unattractive. Her music is about as exciting as watching paint dry. I tried her album....I fell asleep. That's the first time that's happened to me while listening to an album. So poo-poo on Gaga.

Image stuff aside at least she writes most of her own **** and can carry a tune. That's more than can be said for a lot of "pop stars" out there today. And to a certain point you do have to sacrifice some of your integrity and give into the label's demands. It's just the price you pay for being uber-famous in this business. Even Stevie would agree with that. No one as famous as Lady Ga Ga has 100% control over their image.

So I love GaGa. Am I in the drastic minority here?

And while she may not be the first to do what she's doing, she is one of a few who is doing it NOW, where everything is constantly more public and taken at face value. She knows the game she's playing. I mean, people are going to think what they want but they should at least listen to "Speechless" before they start throwing out comments regarding her talent/staying power. |

Did I mention that she has a freakin' awesome voice? |

To me she is the love child of Bowie, Madonna, and Kate Bush...minus all of their talent ;) |

yes, i was talking about the arrogant comment. at this point in history, it's not a revolutionary thing to say, but there is truth to it. also, she's 23. you show me one young woman with aspirations to be anything but a housewife who hasn't felt that exact same way and i'll eat my yoga pants. in fact, she's not even denying that she's arrogant; she's just saying it's a less acceptable trait for women to have than men. again, true. i would like to reiterate her age. 23. every young woman reaches a point in her life where she realizes that the bull**** bromides she was fed as a youngster (especially when it comes to the women of my generation, raised on a steady PC diet of "girls rock," "gender roles are societal constructs," etc) have not fully prepared her for the realities of adulthood. she is still cutting her teeth both as an adult and as an artist. i don't think what she said was that big of a deal. furthermore, saying that women outsell men in the music biz hardly means they're calling the shots. entertainment is still largely a man's world, baby, and i say that as someone who hates gloria steinem. you won't find me spouting any feminazi dogma. but to illustrate my point, on FLDS compounds, women and girls are a far more valuable commodity than boys, who are routinely dumped on the streets of salt lake city and reno. but does that mean the women are calling the shots? hardly. it may seem like a far-flung analogy, but in both cases we are talking about the economics of sex. prevalence and marketability do not necessarily add up to clout. |

I don't pay attention to this sort of music much, but a blog I read regularly had a clip posted, wherein she played some song on a piano and spent much of it banging the heel of her shoe on the keys. I think they teach that at Julliard. |

I do think she can sing and I do think she's a pretty, talented girl. I'm just not grabbed by her 'new' and 'outrageous' thing that she does. :) |

I just read on Billboard's website that GaGa and Adam Lambert are working on a duet. A remake of Neil Diamond and Barbara Streisand's "You Don't Bring Me Flowers". |

This is the only time I've ever enjoyed a Gaga song:
Best.****.Ever. |
For all of her absurdity and ability to take herself a bit too seriously sometimes, Gaga is articulate and fairly intelligent, which makes me like her a lot more. I don't love her, but at least she's a departure from the run of the mill. I don't care about her "authenticity." You've got to start somewhere. Nobody exists in a vacuum. I've never understood why people's influences are used against them. No one accuses Stevie of being a copycat because she appropriated some random chick's look.
And to offset taking herself too seriously, she sometimes tells people to suck her hermie dick, so. :p I also don't think she's hideous, but that's just from Italian schnozz to another. |

All I'll say is that if the Pop Music business were a war and Britney Spears, Christina Aquillera and the rest of that crowd were a battle, there's some generals who would be bouncing twice on the sidewalk for leaving such a blatant opportunity open for Lady GaGa to grab. .......
More power to her, I say. Like "Maverick" said in Top Gun, "I saw I had the shot, there WAS no danger, so I TOOK it!" GOOD for Lady G! ... |
|
I personally love Gaga, I think she's one of the best things to come out of pop music in ages. People judge her because she has a knack of writing accessible pop music, but she is technically a great musician too. Better still, she can actually string a sentence together which seems to be an achievement nowadays in the entertainment industry.

I think Lady Gaga is okay. I'm not a fan but I can tolerate her songs more than I can some by other new artists.I guess the real question to me is when did it happen that women musicians had to look like(and act like) porn centerfolds to become 'famous'?
I know a lot of people will say this started with Madonna, but what is in the videos of Britney, Gaga, Rihanna, well, that's a different ballgame! On the off chance that I happen to watch MTV or VH-1, when there might happen to be an actual music video on, all the videos with women are sleazy. Yet the videos with men are nothing like that. Maybe I am too old to get why this is important to being a musician (I'm 35). If the record companies are making them dress like this to stay on the label, I don't know what to say......... |
