"Fireflies" Full-Length Remix?

Is the full-length version of the remix of "Fireflies" (from the 12" single) available for download from somewhere? (Not the edited version from the 45).

I would happily pay WB or whoever if it was commercially available. But they don't sell it, so I'm looking for that version to complete my Stevie Collection.

How about the single remix of "Crying In The Night"?

Thanks in advance!

Well, you finally gave me a reason to hook up the Ion USB turntable my sister got me for Christmas.

Below are the two mixes from the Fireflies 12" single. Sorry about the pops in the beginning. I tried cleaning the vinyl, but it's been at least 15 years since I've played any of it! LOL.

I'll try to do the Crying in the Night single for you too. I've got to get a step-stool and go up in the top part of the closet in my guest bedroom to get my 45's. Maybe tomorrow! LOL!

xoxo

Vinyl! I like a little crackle and pop in an mp3. This is great, I love this song - thanks for posting! I only had the version from the live LP.

nicksphan 02-21-2010 12:46 AM

Thanks, I love it. Too bad the "long" version cuts about 30 seconds off the album version though.

Thanks so much!!!!!!!!

Stevie the Remixer!!!!!!

And, Jeff, while you're dusting off the vinyl, do you have the live versions of "Two Kinds of Love" & "Whole Lotta Trouble" from the Houston 1989 Westwood One show? (I have the rest but these two disappeared!).

Thanks again!!!!!!!!

Ohh...I would love this whole show if someone is kind enough to post it. I have it on cassette somewhere from when it originally aired but would love a better copy.

Mike B...I used to trade with you many, many years ago,,,it's good to see you're Stevie passion never fades (tried to work a Fireflies reference in there!)

(This is Mike W on Long Island btw...)

mikebise 02-21-2010 11:36 AM

Mike, my love for Stevie's music never fades! I'm amazed at just how much more I love her songs every year.

Even if we all can't stay close, still the fire never fades...

BTW, in the order of Stevie songs which first captured me in Late 1981/Early 1982 and made me love her music, "Fireflies" was one of the first! I think the order was:

Edge of Seventeen

Gold Dust Woman

Rhiannon

Think About It

Fireflies

Click on regular download, then under the ad in the middle you will see an arrow blinking to the file name. Click on the orange download box.

"Recorded live at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium for crew & friends" takes on a mysterious meaning, in light of all the renditions of "Fireflies" we have & a "Tusk" reissue track of "Farmer's Daughter" that sounds just like the "Fleetwood Mac Live" rendition.

mikebise 02-21-2010 02:02 PM

"All the versions of 'Fireflies'?" I don't have that many:

Stevie's piano demo snippet

Official FM LIVE version

Remix of Long Version - Same as above except Stevie overdubs herself and re-sings the final lines, and LB overdubs himself on the extra "Everyone fights" which Stevie sings by herself on the FML version.

Edited Remix of Above

Outtake version with completely different vocals by Stevie and the rest. (I only have one. Are there others?)

Did you mean that, like "Farmer's Daughter" appears to be, that "Fireflies" was a studio track or demo, and "performed live in front of..." means in front of the engineers and whatnot?

I never thought of that before, but it makes sense.

I would think "Dreams" was just a soundcheck as well, but I have a remix of this version with crowd noise. Stevie's vocals are the same as FML but it is definitely remixed and crowd noise is apparent.

It would be interesting to read how FML was cobbled together, what, with Rumours tour tracks allegedly in the mix, and all of the glaring overdubs throughout. :)

"Performed live in front of..." means that they recorded the basic track LIVE at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium. Then took that basic track back to the studio and did various overdubs and remixes to get the different "versions" (album, 12" single, 7" single, etc) that were released. The main basic "performance" of all those versions is the same one on all versions...the only differences are how they mixed the overdubs and how they edited the song.

That's right. It's my belief that the Santa Monica Civic was where they rehearsed in July 1980 for the final leg in August.

People have sometimes called it a soundcheck, but the band wouldn't soundcheck in a venue where they weren't actually performing a gig. The only two soundchecks on the album are supposed to be "Dreams" & "Don't Stop," both according to the liner notes in Paris & both in '77. But what's slightly mysterious about those is that we've all seen the matching videos to both those tracks, & the band is fully dressed for performance.

Thanx for posting:thumbsup:

It's possible that due to circumstances, their soundcheck was delayed until right before the house doors were opened, after they'd dressed for the show. I saw them in '76 at Loyola Marymount Univ gym....they delayed opening the doors until FMac finished their soundcheck (we could hear them from outside playing bits & pieces of songs for about half an hour).
